Yesterday, as I was driving home from Terre Haute, Indiana .... in the pouring rain with a basket of purring kittens..... I was struck by a vision. I knew there was an angel waiting to inhabit my new bird sanctuary. Once I got home and settled everyone in... with full tummies and clean litter boxes.... I went on line and found her. And... here she is! On her way from Maryland now!!

It's a doorway to the meditative life. I only realized last evening... in my meditation class..... exactly how that is. And what a gift it was to grow up in a Catholic universe, surrounded by sacred art. Like turning a doorknob..... Amma
My new "Shambala Sun" arrived yesterday. In it, I was delighted to find a critique of Tolle's "A New Earth" by Gaylon Ferguson. shambhala.org/teachers/ac...ferguson.php

Ferguson had much good to say about Tolle's attempt to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western philosphies. But he also made some valid criticisms, I think. I'd like to share one of them here... to see what Tolle fans think. "" Most distressing is a momentary lapse into racialism: we are told that there are... read more
I learned the root origins of the word 'Maudlin" from Artwit... in response to one of Khrysso's blogs:

""The term comes from the stock character of Mary Magdalene in medieval morality plays, where she is portrayed as histrionically weepy. The name Magdalene in the Oxford college of that name is pronounced "maudlin." "" I never really thought about it but... wow! What a feminist analysis could be done of THAT! Take a biblical heroine and reduce her to a one dimensional, weeping, pen... read more
A good day, despite the cold and rain that kept me from my daily walk. First, I was gifted with this prayer, written by my oldest son:

[Prayer for Mother’s Day *Spirit of Life, Great Mother and Father of Many Names, You Who are Greater than Each of Us and Yet Reside Within Each of Us, be present to us today. *We recognize that today is Mother’s Day. It is a day that we come to with mixed feelings. For some of us it is a time to honor the person who gave us life, and who shaped o... read more
seceded from Virginia just as the Civil War began, and became a state within the Union?

That makes West Virginia the only state to leave the Confederacy, agree to end slavery, and join the Union during the Civil War. Learn something new about my neighbors everyday! They will be voting in the primary this Tuesday, BTW.... Amma Photo: Harper's Ferry West Virginia (a place I loved visiting.)
At least that has been the pattern in past years. Folks like to adopt as the school year ends.... and they plan for their summer routines. If the pattern doesn't hold I will know that it's the sucky economy that is keeping pet adoptions on the down-low.

One can never really predict how the economy will interact with a small business. Pet Rescue is a "small business" for all intents and purposes. Ours is at least. It is home based. It has many expenses.... some of which are tax deductible ... read more
She made it! And she is fine. We think she is 8 to 10 years old. Her mass was removed and found to be benign. Her heartworm test was negative. So... now she is back with me and very happy.

This is a doggy who was clearly loved. She is leash trained and enjoys long walks. She is quiet and well behaved. It is really a shame that her caretaker passed away and there was noone to come forward for her. Amma
I don't know how it happens, really. It just does. It starts with some minor ache or pain that I ignore. Like the foot pain I had back in... when was that.... March? It doesn't go away..... and even gets worse..... so I ignore it more. Ibuprofen. Tylenol. A glass of wine...... Soon it's not just my foot. My knee. My back. Eventually it's my whole body. I gain a few pounds back. Why? Because I am in too much pain to walk the 5 to 7 miles a day I need. I sit more. Spend more time reading the ma...
