</a>
										<div>Tori Tiger is a HUGE hit at the nursing home she visits. This week she attended a Bengal's Football party. Last week she was the guest of honor at an 88 year old's birthday bash.

Despite the rough year for rescue... there have been highlights and Tori is one of them!

I plan to add a couple more therapy pets in 2010, Goddess willing.

Peace to all..... and enjoy your turkey! (Or Tofurky, as the case may be.)

Pet Adoptions Picking Up, Job Search Slow, One Kitty Death ..... Sigh

    </a>
										<div>After a very slow summer on the adoption front... I commenced to hunt for a job. Just a part time kinda thing. To help cover the mounting vet bills.

Good news: This past week we had THREE adoptions! I am soooo glad! Those adoption donations will help ALOT! And the books are starting to balance. Adoptions also open space for new pups and kits..... of which we rescued four each this past week.

Sad News: We lost one sweet kitty to FIP, two weeks ago. RIP Dosi. (Pictured.) He was here all summer and then suddenly went down hill very quickly. Over a course of about two weeks. Sigh. Such a terrible disease.

    </a>
										<div>This is what my sweet little senior Josie looked like... in her puppy sling.... after her massage.

Letha gave the most wonderful massage demonstration for pet owners. I'm happy to say that we had three of our foster moms there to learn. And some of their kids as well. That will make for a lot of happy foster doggies and kitties this season.

Back to the Festival today. Bringing one of our foster daddies along for demo. #2.

If you are in Louisville, and have pets.... you really should join us....

Wanted to pass along this link to my Facebook presence:

Yes, that is the pet rescue's group..... but you can also find me there if you want to. I have a new pseudonym. It has to do with my favorite blogging habits.... Tassimo and cream. (hint, hint.)

We also have a "Holiday Hounds" fundraiser going on here:

just through November. Cuz the economy has totally sapped our rescue business.... and we are at a point of having to do SOMETHING or fold.

I hope all of my Tribester friends are well! And I pray that our rescue business rebounds for the holidays...

    </a>
										<div>August 12th is "Less Adoptable Pets Day!"

Read about the big day here: http://www.petfinder.com/lessadoptablepetday

And then, maybe, consider adopting me!

I'm Barkley and I was once a breeder dog in a puppy mill. Now I am partially blind, from chronic eye infections that were not treated. I'm only four years old, so I still have a lot of love to give. I am a purebred Shih-Tzu, too. So I do not even shed. I weigh around 15 pounds, so I don't take up much space. My skin is healing from the flea infestation I had at the mill.... and now my hair is coming back.

You can find out more about me, and my brother Boots, at: http://www.threesisters.petfinder.com

My paws are crossed that August 12th will be my big day!

PS. My photo is coming soon, but Tribe is not letting us upload it now.</div>

    </a>
										<div>I posted this pic in my photos yesterday. Then, Briar Rose gave me the idea for today's blog title!

We are in countdown mode... for Beasley and Stitchie to go home to their dad, in Livermore California.

Let's see... 42 days til blast off!

We are using this group to do the big transport: http://www.tlcpettransport.com/index.php and yes, the waiting list for a ride from Cincinnati to Livermore is THAT LONG.

It is kind of like summer camp here, for my grandpuppies. Fun, but long. I think they will be glad to go to their new home, where they have a patio with a privacy fence, and a dog park across the street. When they get there... they won't have to put up with any more cats. Or foster dogs. They will be able to sleep with their dad. And watch TV from the sofa.

For now, they are "roughing it" here in rescue quarters. Hehe.

    </a>
										<div>This is a very important day, doncha know?

Not only can we get half price cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory.... but they are introducing a new variety. "Red Velvet Cheesecake" (As shown.) For every slice sold, $.25 is donated to food banks.

There is always some kind of "national day" of something or another. 99% of them are designed to make us feel guilty about something. NOT THIS ONE! National Cheesecake day is designed to make us feel NOT guilty, and maybe even a tig philanthropic. About eating cheesecake.

Now that is my kind of holiday!

I-phone Beats Out Blackberry , Twitter Account Goes Active: Minutia Alert!

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/ammanaga/blog/275d82cd-eea2-4337-b9fb-cda1fe708f66">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/66d/74d/66d74d1f-cc17-4049-bda4-73db0e1aed44.thumb" width="60" height="78" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>I was strong armed into this, actually. By the Apple-happy kids in my family.

They all wanted unlimited minutes and text messages. So they could talk to their far off, west coast, brother. Imagine that!

Long and short of it... we needed a national cell phone provider. AT&amp;T, rather than Cincinnati Bell. DH was cool with i-phone cuz he is an engineer who wrote early software for Windows and figures there must be something he can write for i-phone. Royalties.

Now me, I was holding out for a Blackberry Palm. Cuz I am old and Apple irks me. Haha. But... then AT&amp;T had this fabulous deal on i-phones. And the salesman had a smoothe, sexy, East African accent. He offered me a deal: try the i-phone for thirty days and, if not sold on it, return for a Blackberry.

OMG. This is terrible. I can check my e-mail anywhere. Send photos in a flash. Text. Listen to Pam Tillis. And locate the nearest Starbucks, anywhere in the frickin world!

Plus... I have Twitter already and now I am going active.

If you are into twitter, and desire to know minutia about my daily life.... log in and add me as a friend:
http://twitter.com/StrayYellarDawg

Warning: It will truly be minutia. No politics. No depth. (Can't do that sort of thing at Twitter. teehee.)

    </a>
										<div>This summer sucks, just as does the economy. No expendable income means no pet adoptions. The backlog is killing us. Literally.

There are, in fact, many wonderful, young cats and kittens in need at this time. Just like us. Many of the unclaimed are black. We are desperately in need of homes, or foster homes to prevent you-know-what, from happening to us.

Can you help by providing temporary or permanent safe harbor for one cat? Or a couple of kittens?? If you can foster, our rescue will offer some help with food and litter.

If you can't foster, but want to help, please consider making a donation at www.threesisters.petfinder.com. You can sponsor one of us, and we'll even tell you who.

Us kitties thank you!

Enough of the Hormones, Already! Let's have some predictability in Government!!

<a href="http://people.tribe.net/ammanaga/blog/f9c77006-4631-4591-9c95-3f03117d151d">  						          <img class=" picThumb" src="http://images.tribe.net/tribe/upload/photo/73a/a8c/73aa8cd7-bc85-461e-a769-3882ff1b4482.thumb" width="65" height="48" alt="" />
    </a>
										<div>The question of the day comes from PUMA for Life:
http://helpmejoseph.typepad.com/puma_for_life/2009/06/are-menopausal-men-fit-to-hold-public-office.html
She wonders.... "Are Menopausal men fit to hold public office?"

Of course, men don't really have menopause, or menarche or menses. But they still have hormone shifts as they age. And on a daily basis for that matter. As their testosterone levels rise, and then drop off ... according to diurnal and life cycles... can they be trusted to make weighty decisions?

Some time back, I argued that we have enough of these kinds of hormones on the bench already:
http://people.tribe.net/ammanaga/blog/5d2e8dad-f012-4fcb-b3d8-eefe35e0f840

Now I'd like to extend the argument to include the Senate, the House and State Governorships.

The fact is.... women are safer, where hormonal fluctuations are concerned. For any number of reasons. First of all... the average age of menarche is quite early these days. Some researchers suggest it's as early as *nine* years of age. By the time most young women enter high school, therefore, they have already learned how to deal with their periods.

Puberty for young men hits much later. Usually while they are *in high school.* Being in high school means that they are too busy to devote the necessary time to, you know, "mapping one's cycles." Men never learn important lessons like "at this time of the month, I should refrain from selling the kids." (Or.... running off to Argentina....)

A second point that can be made about the safer nature of female hormones is, menopause tends to happen later in life, and be less protracted, than it's male counterpart... the "mid-life crisis." Plus... there are *drugs* women can take for a few years, to keep them from having hot flashes during an important Senate hearing or something.

Men don't have those kinds of luxuries. They can be having a "mid-life crisis" for years. Some of them even have serial "crises." And there's not one dang thing they can do about 'em. Except ask God's forgiveness AFTER THE FACT. Ask 'em. They'll all tell you the exact same story.... "I am soooo sorry for what I did to my wife and kids, I just couldn't help it...."

One final point I'd like to make is this. Even *if* a woman does have a runaway surge of estrogen or progesterone during a congressional session .... no harm done! Her milk will let down, and her shirt will get wet, and she'll approve something like CHIP, because she is thinking about how other women's babies deserve the same medical care her's can get.

BUT... whoa to the universe if a man is sitting at in front of "The Button" when he has a surge of testosterone.

KA-BOOM! It's all over!!

http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/CelebrityCafe/story?id=7900773&amp;page=1

And then some analysis:

http://riverdaughter.wordpress.com/2009/06/23/chris-brown-pleads-guilty-to-assaulting-rihanna/

"Details of the plea are sketchy, so I don’t know exactly what charge he pled guilty to. Felony sentencing in California is complicated, but unless probation is granted the minimum sentence for any felony conviction is 18 months. A four year sentence indicates he didn’t get off lightly despite receiving probation.

What he got was actually on the high end for a first domestic violence conviction in California. Unless the injuries are severe or life threatening a defendant with no prior record will generally receive probation on a first offense."

No, it is certainly NOT OK to beat one's sexual partner. (Even if the "culture" of one's music says it is.)

In the state of California it is, in fact, a felony.

"French President Nicolas Sarkozy lashed out Monday at the practice of wearing the Muslim burqa, insisting the full-body religious gown is a sign of the 'debasement' of women and that it won't be welcome in France."

More....

"In our country, we cannot accept that women be prisoners behind a screen, cut off from all social life, deprived of all identity," Sarkozy said to extended applause in a speech at the Chateau of Versailles southwest of Paris.

"The burqa is not a religious sign, it's a sign of subservience, a sign of debasement - I want to say it solemnly," he said. "It will not be welcome on the territory of the French Republic."
