National Cheesecake Day is Today!

This is a very important day, doncha know?

Not only can we get half price cheesecake at The Cheesecake Factory.... but they are introducing a new variety. "Red Velvet Cheesecake" (As shown.) For every slice sold, $.25 is donated to food banks.

There is always some kind of "national day" of something or another. 99% of them are designed to make us feel guilty about something. NOT THIS ONE! National Cheesecake day is designed to make us feel NOT guilty, and maybe even a tig philanthropic. About eating cheesecake.

Now that is my kind of holiday!

I-phone Beats Out Blackberry , Twitter Account Goes Active: Minutia Alert!

I was strong armed into this, actually. By the Apple-happy kids in my family.

They all wanted unlimited minutes and text messages. So they could talk to their far off, west coast, brother. Imagine that!

Long and short of it... we needed a national cell phone provider. AT&T, rather than Cincinnati Bell. DH was cool with i-phone cuz he is an engineer who wrote early software for Windows and figures there must be something he can write for i-phone. Royalties.

Now me, I was holding out for a Blackberry Palm. Cuz I am old and Apple irks me. Haha. But... then AT&T had this fabulous deal on i-phones. And the salesman had a smoothe, sexy, East African accent. He offered me a deal: try the i-phone for thirty days and, if not sold on it, return for a Blackberry.

OMG. This is terrible. I can check my e-mail anywhere. Send photos in a flash. Text. Listen to Pam Tillis. And locate the nearest Starbucks, anywhere in the frickin world!

Plus... I have Twitter already and now I am going active.

If you are into twitter, and desire to know minutia about my daily life.... log in and add me as a friend:
twitter.com/StrayYellarDawg

Warning: It will truly be minutia. No politics. No depth. (Can't do that sort of thing at Twitter. teehee.)

This Summer Sucks, Especially for Us Black Kittens

This summer sucks, just as does the economy. No expendable income means no pet adoptions. The backlog is killing us. Literally.

There are, in fact, many wonderful, young cats and kittens in need at this time. Just like us. Many of the unclaimed are black. We are desperately in need of homes, or foster homes to prevent you-know-what, from happening to us.

Can you help by providing temporary or permanent safe harbor for one cat? Or a couple of kittens?? If you can foster, our rescue will offer some help with food and litter.

If you can't foster, but want to help, please consider making a donation at www.threesisters.petfinder.com. You can sponsor one of us, and we'll even tell you who.

Us kitties thank you!

Mom of a Reverend

I survived the weekend ordeal. And, though I am exhausted... I am also happy. And proud.

I posted a slide show in my Myspace blog, but I can't figure out how to post it over here... other than to send you there:

blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm

(I rarely use that account so it's otherwise quite outdated.)

Back to my pets now... and my "normal" life as a rescuer. (I hope.)

Desperately Seeking Foster Homes!

I am back in Cincy now. Getting ready for the big ordination event this weekend.

Next week we will begin to take in pups and kits again. If anyone out there would like to help by fostering... please let me know! We have some real cuties slated to arrive over the next 7 to 14 days. Including these three brothers; Uno, Dos and Tres.

Summer Travels

If you take a little journey over to Amma's photos... you can see that her summer travels are many. Which means that her blog entires are few. For a good reason.

Just popping in to say hi!

And, I hope everyone else is having as fabulous a summer as I am!

Enough of the Hormones, Already! Let's have some predictability in Government!!

The question of the day comes from PUMA for Life:
helpmejoseph.typepad.com/puma_...e.html
She wonders.... "Are Menopausal men fit to hold public office?"

Of course, men don't really have menopause, or menarche or menses. But they still have hormone shifts as they age. And on a daily basis for that matter. As their testosterone levels rise, and then drop off ... according to diurnal and life cycles... can they be trusted to make weighty decisions?

Some time back, I argued that we have enough of these kinds of hormones on the bench already:
people.tribe.net/ammanaga/...fe35e0f840

Now I'd like to extend the argument to include the Senate, the House and State Governorships.

The fact is.... women are safer, where hormonal fluctuations are concerned. For any number of reasons. First of all... the average age of menarche is quite early these days. Some researchers suggest it's as early as *nine* years of age. By the time most young women enter high school, therefore, they have already learned how to deal with their periods.

Puberty for young men hits much later. Usually while they are *in high school.* Being in high school means that they are too busy to devote the necessary time to, you know, "mapping one's cycles." Men never learn important lessons like "at this time of the month, I should refrain from selling the kids." (Or.... running off to Argentina....)

A second point that can be made about the safer nature of female hormones is, menopause tends to happen later in life, and be less protracted, than it's male counterpart... the "mid-life crisis." Plus... there are *drugs* women can take for a few years, to keep them from having hot flashes during an important Senate hearing or something.

Men don't have those kinds of luxuries. They can be having a "mid-life crisis" for years. Some of them even have serial "crises." And there's not one dang thing they can do about 'em. Except ask God's forgiveness AFTER THE FACT. Ask 'em. They'll all tell you the exact same story.... "I am soooo sorry for what I did to my wife and kids, I just couldn't help it...."

One final point I'd like to make is this. Even *if* a woman does have a runaway surge of estrogen or progesterone during a congressional session .... no harm done! Her milk will let down, and her shirt will get wet, and she'll approve something like CHIP, because she is thinking about how other women's babies deserve the same medical care her's can get.

BUT... whoa to the universe if a man is sitting at in front of "The Button" when he has a surge of testosterone.

KA-BOOM! It's all over!!

No, Chris, it is NOT OK to Beat your Girlfriend.

About the Chris Brown conviction:

abcnews.go.com/Entertainm...yCafe/story

And then some analysis:

riverdaughter.wordpress.com/2009...anna/

"Details of the plea are sketchy, so I don’t know exactly what charge he pled guilty to. Felony sentencing in California is complicated, but unless probation is granted the minimum sentence for any felony conviction is 18 months. A four year sentence indicates he didn’t get off lightly despite receiving probation.

What he got was actually on the high end for a first domestic violence conviction in California. Unless the injuries are severe or life threatening a defendant with no prior record will generally receive probation on a first offense."

No, it is certainly NOT OK to beat one's sexual partner. (Even if the "culture" of one's music says it is.)

In the state of California it is, in fact, a felony.
