Whirlwind Week Follows Whirlwind Weekend

Not sure when we'll slow down around here!

First of all... I'm getting ready for a transport into CT next weekend. So far we have Hoover (see photo), Hoosier, Roxy, Truly, Dallas and Precious on it. I suspect we'll add more.

Precious is sick at the kitty hospital, with pneumonia. Gracie is going home this weekend, and we are still treating her for a bit of diarrhea, and a sore butthole.

JayJay, Dallas and Roxy all got spayed/ neutered yesterday, and I will pick them up today.

Willa went to Complete Petsmart yesterday, to see if she can find a forever home that way.

I am really not sure things will calm down until I get to CT for my spring break!

Wild, Whirlwind, Weekend!!

I can't even begin to recount it all. My head is still spinning and my body aches. Haha.

Friday evening we met Luc at the airport in Cincy, where he had a four hour layover between flights... on his way to a job interview. We dined and wined there. And my sister brought her kids along to visit. (They just love Luc, and miss him terribly.)

Saturday was rehabbing day. We went to Lowes, bought more cabinets and counter tops...... spent the day plastering, sanding and installing. The good news about that is ... I am now working from my new home office!! Yes. It is here. A real home for my laptop and pet files! I am NOT spread out all oer the dining room table anymore. Yeah!

Saturday evening was Mardi Gras with Robin and Joani Lacy. Dezydeco has been a long time favorite on the Cincy band scene for us. The founders used to live a few miles from us. (Not sure if they still do.) At any rate... we love the way the Lacys travel to the land of creole, and come back with new music every year. So, DH and I headed out to the Madison theatre to dance our feet off and we were not disappointed! Perfect way to celebrate Mardi Gras! (See photo.)

Sunday I did another rescue. Was on the road most of the day. Rescuing three for Three Sisters, and also a few that I took up to Shelbyville on their way to Kokomo.

Dropped in bed at 9 PM. And boy am I glad that my new little doggies got right into sleep mode. (Doesn't always happen on the first night here.) Whew!

Back In The Throes of Rescue

Sigh. It's been nice, these past couple of days, to catch up with all my blogging friends and causes.

But, today begins the ramp up for very busy rescue weekend. I have many vet appointments to keep today and tomorrow. Then on Sunday I am doing a transport for a mama hound and her litter. They are on the way to Chicago..... and I am going to get them from KY to Indy.

I'm also bringing, to my own home, Roxie (see photo.) Sweet little girl. Her owner has been killed in an auto accident, and she is scared to death at the shelter. I figure she can hang out with my Jackie, until she finds her new forever family.

My focus will now, of necessity, turn away from blogs and petitions...... and toward the little four-leggeds in my care.

See you next week!

Invalidating Prop H8 in California

Hi Tribesters,

Have you heard that Ken Starr -- and the Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund -- filed legal briefs defending the constitutionality of Prop 8 and attempting to forcibly divorce 18,000 same-sex couples that were married in California last year? The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in this case on March 5, with a decision expected within 90 days.

The Courage Campaign has created a video called "Fidelity," with the permission of musician Regina Spektor, that puts a face to those 18,000 couples and all loving, committed couples seeking full equality under the law.

Please watch this heartbreaking video now. If you have the same reaction that I did, please help me spread the word by sharing it with your friends and family ASAP:

www.couragecampaign.org/Divorce

The more people who see this video, the more people will understand the pain caused by Prop 8 and Ken Starr's shameful legal proceeding.

After you watch the video, please join me and over 300,000 people who have signed a letter to the state Supreme Court, asking them to invalidate Prop 8 and reject Starr's case.

Thanks.

Don a Pink Sari, Ladies, and Get Your Big Sticks!

In the wake of the recent incident in Buffalo New York, I found this scholarly piece www.meforum.org/article/2067 particularly enlightening. It outlines some of the major differences between what we usually call "domestic violence" and what would be referred to, in certain subsets of our population as "honor killing."

Let's get clear about this.....

"Honor Killings" are premeditated acts of cold blooded murder. They often take place within families in which several members are involved in their planning and execution. They are particularly gruesome, in that they tend to involve hours of torture leading up to the actual murder. There is nothing "second degree" about them.

I appreciate that "The New Agenda" is calling for our law enforcement agents to explore these distinctions: thenewagenda.net/2009/02/1...ork-state/

I think Dr. Socks hits the nail on the proverbial head with this statement:

"It does us no good to paper over the distinctions; on the contrary, we need to study our subject closely to understand how best to expose and combat each variation. We must be like doctors fighting disease, seeking to identify precisely the pathogens involved."

Look, if U.S. women can't get some help from law enforcement in this matter, we may be forced to....

More Weird Sh** About Facebook

I swear, this just keeps getting stranger:

news.yahoo.com/s/pcworld/...alcomplaint

"Facebook's license to use your content is (now) simply "perpetual" and "irrevocable," even decades after you delete your stuff."

and

"Facebook's neverending lease on your online life, then, isn't exactly the norm. Perhaps you can take comfort in the fact, though, that Facebook could change its policies again without ever telling you. "We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to change or delete portions of these terms at any time without further notice," Facebook's agreement says. "Your continued use of the Facebook service after any such changes constitutes your acceptance of the new terms.""

Isn't that kinda creepy? I mean, like, what if you are drinking Merlot and you blog something you wish you hadn't? Should your blog host have an eternal right to your "intellectual property?"

Where is the MSM? Where is National NOW? Where are the Muslim Clerics? Where is the Outrage??

A Muslim woman is beheaded by her husband, whom she is trying to divorce. This happens in New York State. The police call it "domestic violence." N.O.W. New York comes out with a statement: www.fifty-one-percent.org/index...usband

Quite frankly, though, this should be national news. Why aren't we hearing about it from the Manstream Media?

Where is National NOW?

And what of the Muslim clerics, nationwide? Where are their their denouncements?

Holy God. When is enough, enough?

Very Good Valentine's Day for Rescue!

We had three kitty adoptions yesterday! Joy, Tallie, and JoJo.

Will likely have another kitty adoption today... of Precious, the one year old Russian Blue.

Harper (the Red Heeler) went home on Thursday evening.... an early Valentine's adoption.

Paws crossed that one of the blue speckled pups will be adopted today, as well.

All in all I'd say this is a very good, and very BUSY weekend for rescue!

I would not have been at all surprised to come home to this last evening ...

but then, I did away with blinds a long time ago. For obvious reasons.

Let's just say that these new cats are a trip. And I am full to the brim with pups and kits..... so my home is a three ring circus about now.

Intake week is always.... well it's always a bitch. And a queen.
