Tahitian dance events i'm workin' on!

meet me at the CARD (cville) dance studio tonight at 6 until 8. It's going to be my first dance class since I went around the world. I'm a little anxious (I need to do some prep work today), but mostly excited.

I love this form of dance. It's warm, it's sensual, it's sexy and it's challenging! The thing I love most about it is that the culture from which this beautiful art form was created, is still alive, and ever-developing. The dance comes direct from the islands; the language we learn/hear, the music and the technique can all be found in the pacific. I've seen it; living in Tahiti, every day I heard drums. Almost as often I saw dancers, in random places - yards, community spaces, beaches, markets. Sounds weird, but it's true.

I hope you let me show this to you. I think you'll grow to love it as I do.

Seems like early in the spring there were a lot of dance events happening. I saw a number of new students visiting my studio. I myself attended a number of new dance classes, and gave some Tahitian workshops to inquisitive belly dancers. Now it seems that the energy has changed. *sigh* I miss my dance sistahs and bruddahs....

I'll make you a deal; Any interested persons who want to try out my class and see what it's like is welcome to come for 2 free classes. Either on the same day (as I teach 2 back to back) or 2 different weeks. Just drop me an email to let me know what days you'll be visiting, and it's a done deal. aniseh@earthlink.net ... this seems like a good way to bring the energy back, huh?

It was a really wonderful summer. The performance troupe worked their hind ends off for months; we raised $$, made costumes, and rehearsed OVER AND OVER in preparation for the Virginia Beach Polynesian Fest. It was really our first travel experience as a group, and we had a wonderful time. We were one of the few dance troupes to bring musicians, and our musicians ROCKED the house. As soon as I'm able, I'll put some video up on my MySpace site to share with everyone.

I just wanted to let you know (and hopefully encourage you to spread the word) that we're beginning a new season on September 4th. The Ori class at McGuffey is really on-going, but this is a great time for new students to start. We'll be working on new (to everyone) choreographies and focusing more on technique basics. If you've felt any inclination to take my Tahitian class, now is a great time.

Also, if you're into drumming, Chip is going to begin a drum class soon... Check in with Mr. Staples about that if you're interested.

sending aloha!

i'm really looking forward to teaching my Tahitian workshop in Richmond on July 20th.
The Journey down the Silk Roads event was very inspiring to me - dancing with you beautiful belly-dancing women of skill and grace.
I know now what I'm going to present, and I'm really excited about it.

Also I should mention that there will be live Tahitian drumming happening in our class, courtesy of Chip Staples.
He plans to offer a Tahitian drum workshop simultaneously to all who are interested.

Please contact me, Chip or any of the To The Earth womyn with Qs.

warmly looking forward! - Aniseh

about me
I'm a Tahitian Dance troupe director and instructor based in Charlottesville Virginia, and I celebrate Tahitian culture through learning and teaching Tahitian words, songs and dances.

I've been a dancer all my life, but have been studying Tahitian dance for 8 years; in California, I danced with Ka Ua Tuahine Polynesian Dance Company, an award winning ensemble based out of Berkeley California. I was one of 7 student dancers invited to travel to Papeete, Tahiti in the summer of 2002 to study and perform with one of Tahiti's preeminent dance ensembles, Ori Here Maohi Dance Company. I was in Paris for 8 months of 2005, studying and dancing with Fetia Tahiti in Paris, France. We performed throughout Paris and toured south to Nice and Cannes. Currently I teach classes in McGuffey Art Center. See www.aniseh.net for more info!
