<div>Midwinter Mayhem
- January 25th, 2008 in Providence, RI -
3 hours of workshops with Tempest &amp; Aradia

Workshop Descriptions (90 mins each):
ARADIA PRESENTS: Functional Fusion for Solo and Group Performance
Good Fusion vs Bad Fusion:Tips, Tricks, Tools and Versatile Combinations for Fusion Belly Dance. We will take established movement and theory and add a new twist for a modern and diverse audience. Alternative/modern music will be explored and variations of Belly Dance steps and combos will be adapted to the music with a focus on "being the music" instead of just dancing to it. Presence, intent and technical ability will come through your dance in a whole new way: the ideas and content discussed and drilled will plant seeds in the mind of the improv artist and the choreographer to deepen the dance experience for dancer and audience alike. This class is open to all levels.

TEMPEST PRESENTS: Dramatic Body Language for Gothic Bellydance - At the heart of Gothic Belly Dance is the ability to express deep emotions through the dance in a dramatic style. While in theory, this makes sense, understanding how to make this happen physically is another matter. How does one go about transferring matters of the heart, mind, and spirit into a corporeal expression? In this workshop, we learn to take regular belly dance movements and add Gothic accents to them, focusing on expressing emotion, intent, and power through our steps and presence. From facial expression to fingertips, we'll be dissecting the accents that give Gothic Belly Dance extra substance, drama, and excitement. You'll take home movement embellishments and flourishes to incorporate into your own style. This class is open to all levels.

<div>Thank you to those of you who made it out to class tonight, and I am sorry we could not hold class this evening.

The new owner of the space was moving in as my students arrived this evening, and i had no notice that 9 people would be setting up shop as i prepared to teach a class. It just wasn't gonna happen. =\ All i can do is to apologize for the poor planning on the part of the owners of the location, if i knew that this would happen i would have just canceled and saved some of you the trip out. It was good to see you though!

There will be no classes held after today at the York Avenue location in Pawtucket. But no worries, I will be in touch regarding a new location as soon as i find one, and hope to see familiar faces when classes begin again.

I'll be in touch, and hope to hear from you guys too while we are on break.

Also, don't forget, there is an amazing Master Teacher coming to Mystic CT June 2 and 3. If you are up for a challenge, she'll give it to ya, and you'll have a blast while you're there. I will be there on day two.

<div>Classes with Aradia at current location coming to an end, to be re-started at a new location, date TBD.

I have taught at the BodyFx Studio for three years at its current location within the Physique Company at 170 York Avenue in Pawtucket. I have had the pleasure of seeing most of your faces in that studio, and sharing this art with you and seeing this beautiful dance brought to life with each of your movements. I have enjoyed every bit of it, and hope that i will continue to see you all from time to time in our new location.

The problem is, we are not certain, at this time, where that location will be, and no longer will be able to offer classes at the York Avenue Location after May 8th. The studio space has been taken by a full time youth dance school, in an agreement which is more beneficial to the owners of the location than what the BodyFx was able to bring to the table. I am happy that the space will be used to its full potential and will bring a mutually beneficial working arrangement to the two new partners involved.

But, i am sad to say, that classes will come to an end for three or four weeks while I:
--go on vacation to California for 2 long deserved weeks. i will be at Tribal Fest 7 with Na'Talyah of Zingari East learning all sorts of new ways to make the dance fun to learn and awesome to perform.
--work with the Manager of the BodyFx Studio, the incomparable Jeannette Garcia, to find a new location that will be even better than the last!
--work on a new schedule for classes for the Summer 2007 session.

So: Last Class at the York Avenue location will be Tuesday May 8th. Class will run tomorrow, May 1st as well. Classes will (hopefully) tentatively start back up in early to mid-June. I know this is a long time to wait, but since i will be out of the state for most of this break, really the extra couple of weeks isn't so bad.

I hope to see you in class either sooner or later, and hope you keep up your practice while we are out of session. I want to see strong shimmies and isolations when i get back! =)

If you are on this list and would like to be removed, please reply with the word REMOVE in the subject line and i will remove your email from my records.

Please feel free to email me with any questions you have, or bring them to class with you and i will be happy to answer them.

Happy Dancing, and I'll See You Soon!

    </a>
<div>first....i was called this afternoon and asked by a bride to "do" her fiancee's bachelor party. I politely said that i don't "do" that.

secondly, what the hell is up with all the bickering about bellydance styles?
i mean, we JUST got over the whole Tri-Cab wars and now it's all:

tribal fusion, ewwww
gothic bellydance, ewwwww
dark fusion, ewwwwwww

get over yourselves! chances are, what you are doing as bellydancers is pissing off a former generation's purist vision somehow anyways... ladies, ladies....let's not get our bedlah's in a twist. just live and let live.. This is a beautiful art form that is empowering women to love their bodies and to share in an art form with other women. Don't worry about us fusion/GBD or any other sort of new fangled thing-type-syle invading your territory. Chances are, we'll stay a good long ways away from people like you anyways....what's the fuss?

all this going on and on about this is bellydance, that is not, mine is better than yours, mine is newer, mine has more beading, mine-mine-mine, *breathes* highschool dramaticism is enough to make one's head spin.....and spew green goo....we're gothic after all...hey that's an idea: Exorcist BellyDance! We can alter cassocks into funky belly outfits and the gothiest dancer in in a 5 mile radius can spin and spin until she throws up! While everyone's eating their kabob!!

Cut the elitism, cut the puritanical tirades, cut it all. Cause you know what you're starting to look like to the rest of the world?
That's right baby.

Be beautiful.....INSIDE and out.
