I miss the feeling that I get on the playa... like the whole world can wait while I watch the sunset.

Everything is temporary. Drawing spirals on the beach with my feet I recall the damage I have recently seen in New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It was so hard to tell where I was since all the human made landmarks I knew were gone. But that's the price for living near the sea. At some point it will come and take away all we have built. My spirals have lasted a few days which is a few days more than I thought. This is a picture of one that I created after a big rainstorm came and I ...

Billy Martin (MMW) and Cyro Baptista (percusionist for Paul Simon, Sting, etc.) held a drum workshop at the Boulder Theater on Saturday. (That's me in purple between the two.) We spent all day stomping, clapping and beating on noisy things. The workshop was challenging and Cyro taught us a Brazilian piece that we (the students) played at the finale of the evening performance. Found this preserved sand mandala in the San Antonio Museum of Art yesterday. This is just a small detail from the center. It impressed me more than anything else in the collection. Normally the monks destroy it soon after completion to underscore the impermenance of everything but by orders of the Dalai Lama this one was saved.

Art is a beautiful thing. It's especially cool when an artist has an idea so simple that it spawns others to go out and do the same thing. This street artist known as "Space Invader" has been putting up these small tile works in cities all around the world. Now they are showing up in places he has never even been. That's pretty cool.

What do you get when you release 30 drunken Santas on an unsuspecting Boulder? Fun and mayhem! I can see how this event could spiral out of control pretty quickly. I was proud to be a part of the first Boulder SantaCon. The "rent-a-cops" at the 29th Street mall were just waiting for a reason to bust us and they got their chance once we started singing "Frosty the Cokehead" in the Island Bar. The rent-a-cops tried to foil our escape by bus but they relented once the real cops showed. Picture a...
