<div>Today - kinda a dull blur for the most part. I, feeling more sentimental than most days - 27 years ago, my son Tyler came into this world. He has made me a proud mom indeed. Before leaving work, I made a point of hunting down a co-worker remembering her son shared the same birthday as my kid. Her son was killed two years ago. Upon seeing me, she broke down in my arms and cried. She had bought a cake the night before to take to his grave. She and the rest of her family will spend the evening in mourning. In my compassion for her, I count my blessings.

<div>I really appreciate the connections I have made here on tribe and how these connections have opened my world to some wonderful events and my heart to some wonderful souls. That said, I am growing frustrated with the way tribe is doing business now that I am a paid subscriber. Here is my response to the email they sent me today. I know it won't get read by the forces that are running tribe so I thought I would share it with you and ask, am I the only one??

Dear Tribe Inc:
You guys really really need to get your act together. Examples:
1) I joined up as a paying member within one week of your announcing the subscription.
2) I never got my damn t-shirt although I paid a year subscription up front
3) Tribe members don't need or want "chat"...but how about focusing on keeping your site up and running. The "unscheduled" maintenance interruptions continue at an unacceptable rate...forget chat and focus on stability
4)It is an insult to offer premium members a shocking pink profile scheme that gives everyone headaches...
5) sending premium members email soliciting membership when you should be apologizing for your shoddy service and thanking us for our support even though you continue to fail to provide a stable site...
More and more folks are moving to facebook and similar sites. I don't know how long I can hold off myself.
If you can't tell...this little email of yours has struck a nerve.
Are you reading this? Can you hear me...?

    Dear mari,

We hope you excuse this mass mailing. Some of you getting this email specifically have told us that you don't want email from tribe.net and we generally don't send out emails to the entire userbase. We wanted to let you know about the big changes that have happened here at tribe.net, and if you haven't checked in with us in a while we encourage you to do so.

We’ve listened to our users for solutions to our site instability problems. The overwhelming consensus is that our users love tribe.net so much that they are willing to pay for a premium subscription for all the functions that we now give to you. We launched a premium subscription service on November 30, 2007 to allow folks to support tribe.net at a rate of five bucks for thirty days.

Tribe’s traditional, free service is going to continue just as it always has and always will. Those that want to upgrade can click on the PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION link, fill out the information, and sign up. The premium subscribers will automatically have a gold star instead of the orange bubble when they’re online. We also offer bi-annual and annual memberships for $25 and $50 respectively. Each of these services comes with a free 4 day trial period -- you can cancel anytime before the 4 days is up and not be charged.

We’re aware that some people may not be able to sign up for premium service for various reasons. For those folks we offer the free service (hopefully they’ll click on some of those ads), but we’re also offering an ADOPT A TRIBE ORPHAN link where some kind folks can help out one of their friends (or maybe a
lucky, random person) by upgrading them to premium subscription status.

What do you get for this? Currently, the only benefits are turning off the advertising and access to our new web-based TRIBECHAT function. TRIBECHAT is a Jabber based instant messenger that is accessible to all tribe members who have a Jabber client such as Adium (for Apple) or Trillian (for PC). This allows you to chat with anyone on your tribe friends list.

Ever since we launched this service, we've felt so grateful for this outpouring of support from the Tribe communities. You all have made tribe.net a wonderful place to connect, and we hope that you'll think of us more in the future. Big changes are on the horizon so keep in touch to know the latest.

Finally, if you've purchased a premium subscription, we salute you. We have over 1000 subscribers now and the number is steadily growing each day! We are dedicated to making tribe.net the best experience we can for you, and your subscription benefits the entire user community of tribe! If you know a premium member, thank them for supporting tribe!

Check in at http://www.tribe.net and reconnect!

    Regards,

<div>I receive daily notes in my email from the universe....the following one from the other day pleased me so!

"This just in... mari, no matter how happy you have ever been, even at your happiest, it won't come close to how happy you will one day be.

The plot thickens.

Trust me, I'm there now...
    The Universe"

This morning, headed out the door, I found these lovely daffos tucked behind my door knob. Such sweetness in the mystery and the kindness.
Back in my high school days, my friend Victoria and I used to trek out to Oak Run, targetting the old Hobson Dairy in March. (It was an annual event for a couple of years) The house and barn at Hobsons were crumbling, but all around were daffos! We picked buckets! Back home, we arranged and then in the dark of night, went around town and left them on random doorsteps. Wow, the universe takes it's sweet time with paybacks!
Off to hug some redwood trees, got to do something with this bliss I am feeling....
See you peeps next week.
Shine On!

    </a>
<div>That's right damn it...a holiday! 'Tis the only one we have here in Amerika where we recognize the wisdom and intuitive nature of the animal world. The grand, the great...GROUNDHOG DAY....yipppeeeee......

What will it be....shadow? No shadow? Promise of Spring or Doom of long chill and drippy drizzle? Our fate lies in the paws of a rodent?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groundhog
A Whistlepig? A Land Beaver - hey, this is some kinky stuff - and serious too!

Then there is the subtext; that movie, you know the one I mean....yeah yeah...with Billy Boy Murray...doomed to repeat over and over and over...that day, the frustration, and the exploration...the release of the punch and the joy of sexual plotting...oh heck...reminds me of hooping....

Now I know you are wondering what I have been smoking and that's okay....just that in the hoop I am sometimes doomed to the same moves and the same mistakes. I think I have it, I explore and fail, frustrated, pushing until I make the magical adjustment and break through to the otherside. Eyes closed, I see no shadow and feel the promise of a new level of hooping right around the bend.....like Spring ....damnit....Spring and picnics and hooping and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the park....

Got that....Groundhog Day is a hooping holiday. Will be hosting a hooppaiN hoedown at the Farm here in SF on Sat 2.2. from the late afternoon to early eve....should be a fun bunch...we are gonna grind that hog....throw down some slick moves and break through to an early Spring...

Or so it is planned....

PM me if you are up for a little unorthodox hooping holiday. Praise Mamma Nature through the eyes of a rodent/whistlepig/land beaver!

    </a>
<div>Drive Your Karma, Park Your Dogma

Swami Beyondananda's Guidelines for Enlightenment

1. Be a Fundamentalist - make sure the Fun always comes before the Mental. Realize that life is a situation comedy that will never be canceled. A laugh track has been provided, and the reason why we are put in the material world is to get more material.

2. Have a good laughsitive twice a day, and that will ensure regularhilarity. Remember that each of us has been given a special gift, just for entering so you are already a winner!

3. The most powerful tool on the planet today is Tell-A-Vision. That is where I tell a vision to you, and you tell a vision to me. That way, if we don't like the programming we're getting, we can simply change the channel.

4. Life is like photography. You use the negative to develop. And, no matter what adversity you face, be reassured: Of course God loves you. He's just not ready to make a commitment.

5. It is true. As we go through life thinking heavy thoughts, thought particles tend to get caught between the ears, causing a condition called truth decay. So be sure to use mental floss twice a day. And when you're tempted to practice tantrum yoga, remember what we teach in Swami's Absurdiveness Training class: "Don't get even, get odd."

6. If we want world peace, we must let go of our attachments and truly live like nomads. That's where I no mad at you, you no mad at me. That way, there'll surely be nomadness on the planet. And peace begins with each of us. A little peace here, a little peace there, pretty soon all the peaces will fit together to make one big peace everywhere.

7. I know great earth changes have been predicted for the future, so if you're looking to avoid earthquakes, my advice is simple. When you find a fault, just don't dwell on it.

8. There's no need to change the world. All we have to do is toilet train the world, and we'll never have to change it again.

9. If you're looking to find the key to the Universe, I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is there is no key to the Universe. The good news is it has been left unlocked.

10. Finally, everything I have told you is channeled. That way, if you don't like it, it's not your fault. And remember, enlightenment is not a bureaucracy. So we don't have to go through channels.</div>

<div>Come On Over and get busy. I have some 3/4 100psi tubing and a dynomite loppers for cutting. Bring more supplies and let's do it!

Here's the map. Parking is plentiful at the dead end of San Bruno past 25th Street. You'll need to email me for the phone number to have the gate opened. I'm here at the Farm, one heck of a unique place with lots of SF history. Looking forward to a good time for all.

Also, for those using muni, the #9 or #33, drops close by.

The Quest for the Holy Grail

"Human will animated by love, tempered with compassion and guided by knowledge (that much maligned ‘Serpent' in the Garden of Eden) finds itself obliged to take action that people recognize as ‘courageous'. Armed with love, compassion and knowledge, human will can transcend the stigma of birth... and lead the knights of light into a gathering darkness... Armed with love, compassion and knowledge, one can cast off the cumbersome and crippling armor of religious dogma or political and economic dialectics to carve out, with supple and determined strokes, more appropriate social structures and a more rewarding human environment, using equally sharp edges of intellect and heart. That is what knights and heroines of the Grail have always done. That has been their job. It still is, and anyone with a properly molded will can join the elite company of the Grail because the battles, and the ramparts, are all around us."

The blue moon of late June

And dragonfly flutter of lights
Spinning me spinning
Into states of swooning and bliss

Stall, pause, gratitude mouthed
Into the coming and going of small
Waves that thin and spread
Black gloss across the flat sand.
Patrick who’s hands and great mind
Constructed my birthday psi hoop; deep appreciation
For the death of my sister in October nudging me
Into awareness
This life so short, I feel deep desire to play now and often.
For the sacred magic of the hoop which has become
soulmate-dance partner, a fine lover
Who’s touch moves over my body just right and knowingly
Constant embracing, rhythmic massaging.
Challenging me to explore new moves
And grooves, becoming open to the opening
Balanced and growing.

I could stand here solo in the silver glow
Of the moon
And drip tears of indulgent
Pity if I buy into
Convention /soon to be fifty
on my own – alone and sometimes lonely.

My lover hoop, the craze of ’58,
perfect age for a lover
Experienced, improved and wise with years
Has the endurance needed - increasing
My heartrate and breathing, I puff puff puff

Its name is Soundless.

Its upper side is not bright

Until it returns beyond the realm of things.
We call it the Formless form, the imageless Image,
We call it the indefinable and unimaginable.

Confront it and you do not see its face!
Follow it and you do not see its back!

You can harness present realities.

The Shaping of The Being I Call "Me" - June 6, 1968

    </a>
<div>Reflections can bring such understanding and clarity. I often wonder what it is in me that has caused me to be so passionate about politics and the wrongs and rights in the world? Many that I am around day to day do not feel the need to pay attention as I do. In mostly quiet frustration I accept this as the way things are that I am not going to be able to change and also a big reason why we are in the mess that we are, because so few care enough to take action. So, in reflecting on my morphing into who I am now, I understand that the assassination of Robert Kennedy not only moved me to the core, but imprinted me with the need to do SOMETHING and it's that which is with me now.
I found this blog and it describes almost perfectly my experience as an 11 year old having my hero gunned down. This event more than any other (except the moonwalk on my birthday in '69) shaped my political opinion and passion.

<div>Sunday I headed to Ocean Beach after visiting the Maker Faire at the San Mateo Fair Grounds. I love spinning my hoop and watching the waves. The wind was blowing hard, so I ventured into Golden Gate Park to find a sheltered spot. I was appalled at what I saw. I took one picture near the model boat pond because I wanted to send it into the city and complain. Later I discovered that the place I took the picture was really in better condition than most other areas. Empty cases of beer, bags, shopping carts with plywood, plastic, fabric...crap. Plastic bags blowing in the wind..so much for the greening of San Francisco. Of course there were workers busy at getting it cleaned up, but I was amazed that the city did not put more trash containers in place for the event ( one every 2 feet might have worked)!!!! Basically, I think the mission for most attending Bay to Breakers is to get messed up on beer and in the process they messed our park. This is not new to the event, so you would think the City folks would get a clue and be more proactive. Not.
In contrast, check out these pictures from the Maker Faire, in comparison, amazing! I guess I really prefer peeps who are respectful, engaging and not blasted on Coors beer.

<div>Today I looked back on my blog post from last mother's day...a tribute to my mom (of course) but also to Julia Howe.....and the movement she began....raising the collective voice of mothers in the quest for peace....I renew this message today...
http://people.tribe.net/aporia-celestialgrrrl/blog/70f4f108-134e-4cc1-87c9-0e3e51bda83a

This year has been the toughest on my mom....losing her daughter to a long battle with cancer really almost took it's toll. My sister was her best friend and her security. I have been at my mom's side through the death of my dad and later my step-dad, but it was my sister's death that made me understand the depth of the mothering connection.

I am glad to add here that my mom seems to have pulled through her grieving and mourning....I feel the promise of a new level of mother-daughter relationship with her. In two weeks, she turns 81.....I think she is going to love her gift from me....
a hoola hoop!</div>

<div>We imagine that waking-life is real and that dream-life is unreal, but there does not seem to be any evidence for this belief. Chuang Tzu, in the third century B.C., put it in an amusing way; having dreamed that he was a butterfly flitting from flower to flower, he stated that he was now wondering whether he was then a man dreaming he was a butterfly or whether he was now a butterfly dreaming he was a man. - Wei Wu Wei "Fingers Pointing Toward the Moon"
