My World

Nothing being more important than anything else, a man of knowledge chooses any act, and acts it out as if it matters to him.
His controlled folly makes him say that what he does matters and makes him act as if it did, and yet he knows that it doesn't, so when he fulfills his acts he retreats in peace, and if his acts were good or bad, worked or didnt't, is in no way part of his concern.
- Carlos Castaneda

Hopi Wisdom for the New Year

Reading from Hopi Nation

"You have been telling the people that this is the Eleventh Hour.
Now you must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour.
And there are things to be considered:

Where are you living?
What are you doing?
What are your relationships?
Are you in right relation?
Where is your water?
Know your garden.
It is time to speak your Truth.
Create your community.

Be good to each other.
And do not look outside yourself for the leader.
This could be a good time!
There is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift that there are those who will be afraid.
They will try to hold on to the shore.
They will feel they are being torn apart, and they will suffer greatly.
Know the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water.
See who is in there with you and celebrate.

At this time in history, we are to take nothing personally.
Least of all, ourselves.
For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth and journey comes to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
Gather yourselves!
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and your vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
We are the ones we've been waiting for.

Martha Graham to Agnes deMille

"There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening
That is translated through you into action,
And because there is only one of you in all time,
This expression is unique.
If you block it,
It will never exist through any other medium
And be lost.
The world will never have it.
It is not your business to determine how good it is,
Nor how valuable it is,
Nor how it compares with other expressions.
It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly,
To keep the channel open.
You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work.
You have to keep open and aware
Directly to the urges that motivate you.
Keep the channel open.
No artist is pleased.
There is no satisfaction whatever at any time.
There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction,
A blessed unrest that keeps us marching
And makes us more alive than others."

REAL COMPASSION . . .

"Real compassion kicks butt and takes names,
and it is not pleasant on certain days.
If you are not ready for this fire,
then find a new-age, sweetness-and-light,
soft-speaking, perpetually smiling teacher,
and learn to relabel your ego with spiritual sounding terms.
But stay away from those that practice real compassion,
because they will fry your ass, my friend."

OUR REAL FEAR . . .

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? ...Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you...

It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

- Marianne Williamson (quoted by Nelson Mandela in his inaugural address)

MY DAILY DILEMA . . .

IF THE WORLD WERE MERELY SEDUCTIVE, THAT WOULD BE EASY . . .
IF IT WERE MERELY CHALLENGING, THAT WOULD BE NO PROBLEM . . .
BUT I AWAKE IN THE MORNING, TORN BETWEEN A DESIRE TO SAVE THE WORLD, AND A DESIRE TO SAVOUR THE WORLD . . .
THAT MAKES IT HARD TO PLAN THE DAY.
