when you can feel all the anger - not just the anger that floats to the surface, but the rage that weighs anchor in your belly, the removal of which, from all bellies, is reason enough for anything
including
reason
to feel all the joy to be had from every tiny struggle and victory, even the medium ones and even the super-sized ones; beads of human potential gathering like rain on the window; incremental bits of soul restoring tonic for all who know how to take it....
feel me?
(‘cause when you don't feel me, when you don't feel me at all, i let go a little each time, small dead animals falling from my heart )
when you do
the rain drops pool
and our bellies are soothed
and the next day, the next struggle, the next victory, the next death
is clearer, ¿claro?
our determination, mas fuerte
our hearts, con mas cariño.

Pilates 2the People
www.pilates2thepeople.com
Health care and knowledge are privileges in this society. We are sooner encouraged to die of cancer, diabetes or heart disease, addicted to any 10 substances, including grease, sugar & preservatives, than we are taught to be healthy or given easy access to things that will keep us healthy. Our postures and movements are no exception! And, yeah, it’s way worse the more oppressed you are.
Pilates isn’t going to fix everything, only revolution will do that. But in the meantime, and to help us get there, Pilates can get us stronger, healthier, & smarter about our bodies, helping us move in the ways that life demands, pain free & powerful, at whatever level of activity (physical therapy, walking, dancing, marital arts, etc.)
Pilates is not just a form of exercise (which, to some, looks like an active form of yoga), it’s a method of studying the body and working towards over all musculo-skeletal health. Pilates can increase your mobility, stability, strength and flexibility. Take 6 classes in a row to feel what I mean!
Pilates to the People uses the proceeds above cost from regular priced sessions to provide Pilates to those who cannot otherwise afford Pilates. Get healthy and spread the love!

The Bunch of Words:
Pilates is an exercise method that focuses on a combination of developing body control, awareness, strength and flexibility. It works all parts of the body in a focused manner and puts strong emphasis on the "core". The "core" is all of the abdominal and back muscles and, in Pilates, includes muscles that work on the shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle & neck. Effective use of Pilates results in an increase of all over strength, range of motion, stability, & control. It counters the effects of gravity on the body and is excellent for serious athletic cross training as well as recovering from injuries. (It should NOT replace physical therapy but can greatly aid in it during and after physical therapy treatment.)
I am resisting the urge to gloat and pontificate about Pilates. I will stop here. Pilates is dope, though! Its worth looking into if you've ever been even a little interested. :)
here is a website where you can learn more about Pilates, although I must warn you that it won't be what you expected no matter what you read. www.pilatesmethodalliance.org/wha...html

words from a client:
"Kendal has that rarest of gifts: she sees you--how you carry yourself and move through your own existence, and she shows you how to know yourself, as you are, from the inside. Most exercise instructors show you some movements, but Kendal shows you how to move in the way your body was meant to--from your own core of strength and point of balance. She is funny, compassionate and incredibly helpful. Within an hour she had me connecting with my own body in ways that months of yoga never did. She showed me how to work muscles I rarely used, and free up sections of my spine that had been so stiff for so long I thought that was their natural state. I was never once, as I usually am, hesitant or in doubt about my own capacity to accomplish what she asked of me--even though some of it was technically fairly difficult, because she inspires confidence.
"She is one of the best instructors in mind-body connection that I have ever had the pleasure of working with."

We finally got to meet in 3D.
Very cool.
Though she comes off all tough, and IS,
She also surprised me with a soft attention to the subtle details of things, and a very warm welcoming energy.
OK I wasn't that surprised... it was just nice to see IRL.
I look forward to a future friendship. One of the folks in the world with real genuine Quality.
And Grace.

she's tough. enlightened. whip-smart. non-conformist. makes a mean-miso soup. makes a mean home-brewed chai. she'll patch ya up if you're sick. she knows where the good music is too!
Some would say she's a sister in the struggle - I say, pick your battle, you can win with her!

arize is well worth knowing as a friend. She is observant and truthful but always kind, emotionally present without intrusion, intelligent, political and sharp without arrogance.
But as a Pilates instructor, she has that rarest of gifts: she sees you--how you carry yourself and move through your own existence, and she shows you how to know yourself, as you are, from the inside. Most exercise instructors show you some movements, but arize shows you how to move in the way your body was meant to--from your own core of strength and point of balance.

Even though we are the same age, she is the kick ass older sister I never had.

this beautiful soulful woman blessed me with the most extraordinary gift.....
70 miles away from where she lives... I was quietly crashing emotionally in the throes of a break-up. She sensed this, and simply asked if I needed company...
She shows up at my door like a dreadlocked Mary Poppins: with 6 bags of groceries, and she mutha-effin' COOKED for me- stocked my house up with all kinds of wild and wonderfully delicious foods....rice wine, soba noodles, fresh mushroom broth for the DELISH shitaake mushroom soup she made, fresh corn tortillas, delicious black beans, a fat jar of fresh squeezed ginger juice, a quart of my own personally mixed, healing herbal tea blend, all kinds of veggies and fruit (mmm...asian pears with thinly sliced pecorino!!) and cheeses....
I felt so undeserving of that kind of selfless generosity and lovin' from the heart.
I'm still blown away by it...
she so filled my cup to overfloweth...
lucky I am.
lucky are those who get to really know this fiery-quiet, ingelligent, thoughtful loving arize...
...what about korea, iraq, iran?

We are all Oscar Grant! ……………&, BTW, can we please not vilify the vandals?
My thoughts on today’s protest, while they are fresh…
11pm, January 7
So, wow. I’m listening to the ghetto birds still outside my Oakland apartment while I listen to them on the live news at the same time. I’m nursing the blister I got marching and running around 5 or so miles. I’m charging my phone ‘cause I over texted with people coming to or worrying about the protest or trying to decide what to do nex...
