Chinese Gardens to the Rescue
Mon, May 5, 2008 - 9:01 AMI like the Aunt but there are only two safe subjects that we can talk about (diet and scenery)
Because I am diplomatic and seek to communicate with those who do not share my trips,
I am taking them to the Portland Classical Chinese Garden downtown...lots of safe, neutral foci for our attention.
My goal is to be kind without being fake, to maintain my sense of the life that I have without being confrontational...
but this is tricky when dealing with those with whom I had to battle in order to attain
my post-larval stage as a designer mutant.

Have fun with that. Personally, I've found that belief systems don't have to be as big a roadblock to communication as we tend to think. I used to have a friend who was a die-hard warmongering Republican, and yet we still found common ground for communication. Ultimately, I think the goal is to look past all that bullshit and just see the Buddha nature in everyone.

it turned out very diplomatic, if a tad awkward... we're talking about loud, good-ol'-boy Texan preacher action... in the Chinese Garden...a perfect juxtaposition! I haven't been called "Clint" in quite a while... |
