It's been a while since I've checked in with Jodi,
and I can see that she lives her purpose with passion- what more could we ask for in life?? So, thank you, for serving as an example of shining so naturally and brightly~~ as we all are inside. XOXO April 3, 2006
I know Jodi pretty well and I think she's pretty great, as a person and a yoga instructor. I was fortunate enough to attend an Ashtanga Yoga workshop in Costa Rica that she taught and in a few days she gave me a good foundation to grow as a new yogi. Thanks Jodi for all of your help and all of your love. You are pretty special.

about me
Ashtanga Yoga Instructor and nutritional coach Jodi Blumstein has been practicing Yoga since 1995. Jodi sees the practice of Ashtanga Yoga as a highly transformative experience; it is physical exercise to keep the body clean, it is mental exercise to keep the mind sharp; and it is a tool for waking up to who we truly are, beyond name and form.
Jodi has the unique ability to work with students of all levels, ages and physical ability and to guide them towards establishing consistent, daily practice to improve health on all levels. She encourages students to explore the unknown both on and off the mat and not to take anything too seriously. She has a vast background in fitness that began professionally in 1991 as a certified aerobics instructor at Chicago’s famed East Bank Club. In 1993 she continued deeper into fitness as a certified spinning instructor and nationally certified personal trainer. At that time, many of Jodi’s private clients were in their sixties and seventies, so Jodi was attracted to the book “Yoga over 50” when she found it. After attending her first yoga class she saw the benefits for her clients and herself. Jodi began studying Ashtanga Yoga in 1995 with Tim Miller from Encinitas, CA and began incorporating yoga into her personal training. It quickly became obvious to Jodi that Ashtanga yoga was a revolutionary fitness system, and she stuck with it. As time went by, Jodi began to experience changes in her outlook, attitude and energy that extended into her emotional and spiritual life. Since then she has practiced extensively with Tim Miller, Dena Kingsberg, and Pattabhi Jois, traveling throughout the US, Europe and Asia to study. In 1999 Jodi opened the first yoga studio in Chicago’s gold coast. Jodi recently sold Priya Yoga, an Ashtanga Yoga school, which she owned and managed for 6 years. Currently, Jodi is living in Los Angeles and exploring her personal practice. She teaches private yoga sessions, prepares gourmet raw foods for friends, and spends time with her dog, Jack. She also leads workshops and retreats around the United States, Central America and Europe.

Its been quite a year. After relocating to Los Angeles 15 months ago - in April of 06, i decided it was time to bring my teaching here. I reached out to nearby studios and by the end of the summer, had more classes then i could handle. I have spent the fall really looking to fine tune the teaching - to be in the places where i can do the best work and where i can serve the Ashtanga community of Los Angeles most directly - and the universe listened! Since September i have been teaching the daily Afternoon Mysore program (monday thru friday, 3:30 - 5:30PM) at the Center For Yoga on Larchmont Blvd. www.yogaworks.com. This program is growing steadily. If you are near Hollywood or Silver Lake and have an interest in the traditional teaching of Ashtanga Yoga- come and visit me there any afternoon! (remember, no class on the full moon or new moon!) AND - (the big announcement!!!) Beginning on January 8th 2007, i am HONORED to be teaching the morning Mysore classes at Yoga Works on Montana Street. (monday thru friday 6:30 - 8:55AM) as well as the Sunday Morning Ashtanga Class - which i am now calling ASHTANGA PLUS. plus = mediation, pranayama, chanting and inspiration! 8 - 10:10AM (and we will use up each precious minute of that) This class will be a sweaty juicy beautiful lead class - beginning on Sunday January 14th I am really excited to see you in class in 2007. As always, if you have ANY questions about these classes, or anything about Ashtanga Yoga please feel free to contact me here thru TRIBE! Peace Jodi B
We shot Amae and Mystique – who like to call themselves Sexy Bitches like it RAW….check em out at www.sexyrawfood.com. They gave a HOT uncooked food demo, and taught us how to make YUMMY hemp seed mylk – and a great raw breakfast with soaked oat groats, flax and fruit. It was a great interchangeable recipe, the kind you could use everyday, changing it around with different fruits – adding cacao – goji berries, nuts, etc…. And then they showed us how to take the oat breakfast and make it into slightly warm, raw oatmeal. THIS ROCKED! They are photographed here for you to see. And look for Amae here on tribe.

We wrapped up that set, just in time for the main event of the evening. My dear friend, Erin Kamler, formerly known as Mantra Girl – made her debut appearance at the Universal Temple – as Mantra Woman. As the audience sat quietly, chanted with her – and even at times went into meditation, Erin and her lovely Tabla player accompanist chanted beautiful Mantras, mostly from the Kundalini tradition. She is an incredible musician – and has been composing and performing since she was 12 years old. She actually wrote an entire musical when she was 14 (and we have the footage to prove it!) After the concert ended – we wrapped – and hung out to enjoy the juicy vibe at the Temple. Many thanks to our friends Kennedy and TES for hosting our events there, and kudos to Kennedy for once again producing a great event. We crashed at the temple (exhausted, we were!) and woke early to head back to LALALAND. Keep your eyes open for the pilot of this new show about Yogis and Yoginis around the Planet and what they are up to Off the MAT.
A few weeks ago – we had our first day of shooting for the Yoga Planet pilot. It was a long and beautiful day and I have wanted to share about it here, but life has been very very full. So, I apologize for the delay – and let me tell you about the project I am really focusing my love and energy on.

We started the day in the home of my long time teacher, Tim Miller. He made me a LOVELY cappuccino (the guy loves coffee) and we sat in his beautiful home and rolled the cameras while he shared stories about Encinitas, Yoga and how he discovered the practice that changed his life. There were some really amazing moments, and being with Tim is always a pleasure. You can read more about Tim at his website www.ashtangayogacenter.com - and you can see below a few photos we shot of him and his family in their home. Then we drove a few minutes to his center – where about 20 beautiful yogis and yoginis awaited our arrival. We filmed an amazing class Tim taught just for the show – called The Mysterious and Elusive Bandhas. It was really about tuning in deeply in practice – to locate and maintain the bandhas. And we learned how to isolate these hard to find areas and utilize them in sun salutations – handstands, arm balances and standing poses…. actually, we did a little of everything – but with a real focus on moving slow and feeling deep. After class, our photographer shot some fun photos of Tim and students there! Check out Tim and his adorable daughter Lila here. When we finished class we sat on the nice deck outside the Ashtanga Yoga Center and had a great lunch from Jimbo’s…..the worlds absolute best grocery store ever. They have a HUGE produce section – all organic – and they buy from local farmers. I just can’t say enough about this place. Of course, anyone who knows me well knows I am like a kid in a candy store at a GOOD healthy grocery store…..and this one is the BEST. We are going back to shoot a piece there for the pilot – they do some unique tours (how many grocery stores give tours?????) and we want to show the world what a grocery store can be. Hey – eating clean healthy food is part of yoga practice! Well – we needed that lunch, because our day was just beginning. We got back in our 3-vehicle caravan and drove east – 40 minutes into the hills of Escondido. Our destination – the Universal Temple of Higher Consciousness (www.uthc.tv) When we arrived the sun was just setting on the hills, this place is GORGEOUS. Just a divine environment. But we had work to do – we spent a bit of time designing the two sets – and then it was time to roll again!
I am really excited to announce that beginning on Tuesday September 12th, i will be taking over the Mysore program at the Larchmont Center for Yoga - Yoga Works.

Classes will be held Mon - Fri from 3:30-5:30PM but from 4 - 6PM on Tuesdays. Class is cancelled on the New and Full Moon days, check the website www.yogaworks.com to view the Moon Days. These classes are for students of all levels. If you are an experienced ashtanga yoga practitioner, i can help you move your practice to a new level. If you are a beginner, i will help you to establish a consistent practice. One nice advantage of Mysore class practice is that the time is a little flexible. If you cannot get there by 3:30, no problem, come at 4PM. We just have to clear the room out for the next class by the end time. This is the traditional way to teach and learn ashtanga yoga and it is best for the teacher and for the students. I am honored to have an opportunity to work with the Los Angeles yoga community in this way and hope you will stop by and say hello!
Even tho i am no longer there, and am now living in LA. The Chicago yoga community still feels very close. And today i felt really energized to help organize a space here we can connect and be even closer. and so i collected photos of friends and studios there - and am putting this together. If you live in Chicago - visit Chicago - do yoga - or live anywhere and just want to connect - Join us HERE!
