NEW CLASSES in 2007 - Mysore program at Yoga Works Montana Street
Hi Friends. Its been quite a year. After relocating to Los Angeles 15 months ago - in April of 06, i decided it was time to bring my teaching here. I reached out to nearby studios and by the end of the summer, had more classes then i could handle.
I have spent the fall really looking to fine tune the teaching - to be in the places where i can do the best work and where i can serve the Ashtanga community of Los Angeles most directly - and the universe listened!
Since September i have been teaching the daily Afternoon Mysore program (monday thru friday, 3:30 - 5:30PM) at the Center For Yoga on Larchmont Blvd. www.yogaworks.com. This program is growing steadily. If you are near Hollywood or Silver Lake and have an interest in the traditional teaching of Ashtanga Yoga- come and visit me there any afternoon! (remember, no class on the full moon or new moon!)
AND - (the big announcement!!!) Beginning on January 8th 2007, i am HONORED to be teaching the morning Mysore classes at Yoga Works on Montana Street. (monday thru friday 6:30 - 8:55AM)
as well as the Sunday Morning Ashtanga Class - which i am now calling ASHTANGA PLUS. plus = mediation, pranayama, chanting and inspiration!
8 - 10:10AM (and we will use up each precious minute of that)
This class will be a sweaty juicy beautiful lead class - beginning on Sunday January 14th
I am really excited to see you in class in 2007. As always, if you have ANY questions about these classes, or anything about Ashtanga Yoga please feel free to contact me here thru TRIBE!
Peace

Yoga Planet Pilot – first day of shooting! pt. 2
We shot Amae and Mystique – who like to call themselves Sexy Bitches like it RAW….check em out at www.sexyrawfood.com. They gave a HOT uncooked food demo, and taught us how to make YUMMY hemp seed mylk – and a great raw breakfast with soaked oat groats, flax and fruit. It was a great interchangeable recipe, the kind you could use everyday, changing it around with different fruits – adding cacao – goji berries, nuts, etc…. And then they showed us how to take the oat breakfast and make it into slightly warm, raw oatmeal. THIS ROCKED! They are photographed here for you to see. And look for Amae here on tribe. We wrapped up that set, just in time for the main event of the evening. My dear friend, Erin Kamler, formerly known as Mantra Girl – made her debut appearance at the Universal Temple – as Mantra Woman. As the audience sat quietly, chanted with her – and even at times went into meditation, Erin and her lovely Tabla player accompanist chanted beautiful Mantras, mostly from the Kundalini tradition. She is an incredible musician – and has been composing and performing since she was 12 years old. She actually wrote an entire musical when she was 14 (and we have the footage to prove it!)
After the concert ended – we wrapped – and hung out to enjoy the juicy vibe at the Temple. Many thanks to our friends Kennedy and TES for hosting our events there, and kudos to Kennedy for once again producing a great event. We crashed at the temple (exhausted, we were!) and woke early to head back to LALALAND.
Keep your eyes open for the pilot of this new show about Yogis and Yoginis around the Planet and what they are up to Off the MAT.
Yoga Planet Pilot – first day of shooting! pt. 1
A few weeks ago – we had our first day of shooting for the Yoga Planet pilot. It was a long and beautiful day and I have wanted to share about it here, but life has been very very full. So, I apologize for the delay – and let me tell you about the project I am really focusing my love and energy on.We started the day in the home of my long time teacher, Tim Miller. He made me a LOVELY cappuccino (the guy loves coffee) and we sat in his beautiful home and rolled the cameras while he shared stories about Encinitas, Yoga and how he discovered the practice that changed his life. There were some really amazing moments, and being with Tim is always a pleasure. You can read more about Tim at his website www.ashtangayogacenter.com - and you can see below a few photos we shot of him and his family in their home.
Then we drove a few minutes to his center – where about 20 beautiful yogis and yoginis awaited our arrival. We filmed an amazing class Tim taught just for the show – called The Mysterious and Elusive Bandhas. It was really about tuning in deeply in practice – to locate and maintain the bandhas. And we learned how to isolate these hard to find areas and utilize them in sun salutations – handstands, arm balances and standing poses…. actually, we did a little of everything – but with a real focus on moving slow and feeling deep. After class, our photographer shot some fun photos of Tim and students there! Check out Tim and his adorable daughter Lila here.
When we finished class we sat on the nice deck outside the Ashtanga Yoga Center and had a great lunch from Jimbo’s…..the worlds absolute best grocery store ever. They have a HUGE produce section – all organic – and they buy from local farmers. I just can’t say enough about this place. Of course, anyone who knows me well knows I am like a kid in a candy store at a GOOD healthy grocery store…..and this one is the BEST. We are going back to shoot a piece there for the pilot – they do some unique tours (how many grocery stores give tours?????) and we want to show the world what a grocery store can be. Hey – eating clean healthy food is part of yoga practice!
Well – we needed that lunch, because our day was just beginning. We got back in our 3-vehicle caravan and drove east – 40 minutes into the hills of Escondido. Our destination – the Universal Temple of Higher Consciousness (www.uthc.tv) When we arrived the sun was just setting on the hills, this place is GORGEOUS. Just a divine environment. But we had work to do – we spent a bit of time designing the two sets – and then it was time to roll again!
Afternoon Mysore Program in Larchmont
I am really excited to announce that beginning on Tuesday September 12th, i will be taking over the Mysore program at the Larchmont Center for Yoga - Yoga Works.Classes will be held Mon - Fri from 3:30-5:30PM but from 4 - 6PM on Tuesdays.
Class is cancelled on the New and Full Moon days, check the website www.yogaworks.com to view the Moon Days.
These classes are for students of all levels. If you are an experienced ashtanga yoga practitioner, i can help you move your practice to a new level. If you are a beginner, i will help you to establish a consistent practice. One nice advantage of Mysore class practice is that the time is a little flexible. If you cannot get there by 3:30, no problem, come at 4PM. We just have to clear the room out for the next class by the end time.
This is the traditional way to teach and learn ashtanga yoga and it is best for the teacher and for the students. I am honored to have an opportunity to work with the Los Angeles yoga community in this way and hope you will stop by and say hello!
I Just started another NEW TRIBE - Yoga in Chicago
Even tho i am no longer there, and am now living in LA. The Chicago yoga community still feels very close. And today i felt really energized to help organize a space here we can connect and be even closer. and so i collected photos of friends and studios there - and am putting this together. If you live in Chicago - visit Chicago - do yoga - or live anywhere and just want to connect - Join us HERE!Yoga in Costa Rica TRibe

Ashtanga Yoga Workshop - Sunday June 25th
I am teaching my first workshop in the LA area onSunday June 25th, from 1 - 4 PM at Karuna Yoga in Los
Feliz.
In the past few years, teaching workshops and retreats
has really become my focus, so I am really pleased to
make this announcement. It feels like where my energy is really moving -
and i am working at my best.
This workshop will be a thorough look at the Ashtanga
Yoga Primary Series. We will talk a bit about the
philosophy behind this practice - discuss pranayama
and 'the bandhas' at length, and look at the postures
themselves with a more attention to detail than we can
usually get to in class.
This workshop is for students who want more
information on the primary series - beginning or
advanced. Please help me spread the word!
I am attaching a document here - that will give you
more information as to price and location.
Note - it is $35 in advance, $40 at the door. So, if
you are coming please register early! This may very
well sell out - as the room at karuna can only hold
about 20 bodies.
peace and much love to all my LA family.

my schedule for June Downtown is:

Sundays 10:30AM
I will also be covering some classes in Santa Monica - at Santa Monica Yoga
1640 Ocean Park Blvd
www.santamonicayoga.com
beginning June 16th - thru the end of july, i will be covering
Wednesdays - 7:00AM Mysore Class - come if you want to learn ashtanga yoga progressively or if you know it well
Fridays 6:45AM Led Full Primary
Teaching is feeling beautiful - lighter and stronger than it has in a long time. I have been thru a major transition - changed every aspect of my life and feel incredibly free and happy to be back to teaching the practice that i love. i look forward to sharing this experience with the incredible yoga community here in LA.
I am working a lot and taking private sessions as well. if you are interested in privates or know of anyone who can benefit from working with me - please direct them my way. I love doing privates, and helping students to develop their own daily practice in a way that is appropriate to each individual.
Why do we do yoga? It is Time to Wake UP1
hi friends and famjust got home from the theatre where i saw "AN
INCONVENIENT TRUTH", a new documentary starring Al
Gore on global warming.
it is basically a profoundly disturbing, factual slide
show - that he has done thousands of times all over
the world. something he has been aware of and talking
about since the 1970's.
i am not stunned - i knew these facts before. and
mostly i am just stunned by how complacent we
generally are.
It is important that everyone see this film,
especially in the next 2 weeks, so that it can
continue to run.
and the film gives us all instructions on how to reduce
carbon levels, individually.....and as the film shows,
if we dont, we are headed for a huge EPIC
disaster.....pretty fucking soon.....excuse the
language.
but it is really time for us to WAKE UP. and that is
really what the film is about. so if my use of the f
word does it, so be it.
wake up - go see the film! go to
www.climatecrisis.net for more information on what you can do to help save our planet, which is in BIG trouble. Pay close attention to the
closing credits of this film as they are instructions
as to how we as individuals can make a difference.
what is obvious in this story - is that americans are
the worst offenders (ITS A FACT!) and the consequences of our
complacency are here....every tornado - every
hurricane - and soon, more - because both greenland
and antarctica (whether we are noticing or not) ARE
MELTING as we sit in front of our tv's and watch the
war in iraq.
so PLEASE - see the movie - tell everyone you know to
see it - go to the website. if you dont think it is
important for you....just look at the tiniest child
you know. it is their planet, and they have to live
here after we ruin it. Dont just sit on your computer, USE IT FOR THE COMMON GOOD!
much love
Free Yoga Class in LA
Hi Friends -i am really excited to announce that i can now offer your first class free with me, if you are new to the studios i am teaching at.
My schedule is posted above - and the owners of Karuna Yoga and Bala Yoga (beautiful folks) have both agreed to let me invite students to take my first class free. If you want a free class pass, please let me know and i will get it in your hands.
I am happy to invite all of Los Angeles to check out what i do - these classes are all Introductions to Ashtanga Yoga - they are beneficial for all levels of practitioners. If you are an advanced student, i guarantee you will learn something new about your primary series practice in my class - if you have never done yoga before, i can work with you to get the most out of this experience by increasing your sensitivity and awareness in each breath and getting your body moving in a way that is appropriate for your level.
I am hoping to be teaching mysore style ashtanga yoga soon here in LA - and i am looking for a space in downtown LA or near Hollywood to start an afternoon practice where i can work simultaneously with students of all levels on cultivating a daily practice... if you know of a good space, please let me know!
And while i have your attention - i am actively seeking to WORK. Teaching yoga in LA town pays very very little and gas just keeps getting more expensivo. I am happy to work privately with anyone who wants to learn ashtanga yoga - i am an excellent Raw Food counselor - Intuitive Coach - structural Bodyworker and teacher of meditation and pranayama. If you need me and i can help you lets find a way to work together!
