Yoga Planet Pilot – first day of shooting! pt. 1
Mon, October 30, 2006 - 2:15 AMWe started the day in the home of my long time teacher, Tim Miller. He made me a LOVELY cappuccino (the guy loves coffee) and we sat in his beautiful home and rolled the cameras while he shared stories about Encinitas, Yoga and how he discovered the practice that changed his life. There were some really amazing moments, and being with Tim is always a pleasure. You can read more about Tim at his website www.ashtangayogacenter.com - and you can see below a few photos we shot of him and his family in their home.
Then we drove a few minutes to his center – where about 20 beautiful yogis and yoginis awaited our arrival. We filmed an amazing class Tim taught just for the show – called The Mysterious and Elusive Bandhas. It was really about tuning in deeply in practice – to locate and maintain the bandhas. And we learned how to isolate these hard to find areas and utilize them in sun salutations – handstands, arm balances and standing poses…. actually, we did a little of everything – but with a real focus on moving slow and feeling deep. After class, our photographer shot some fun photos of Tim and students there! Check out Tim and his adorable daughter Lila here.
When we finished class we sat on the nice deck outside the Ashtanga Yoga Center and had a great lunch from Jimbo’s…..the worlds absolute best grocery store ever. They have a HUGE produce section – all organic – and they buy from local farmers. I just can’t say enough about this place. Of course, anyone who knows me well knows I am like a kid in a candy store at a GOOD healthy grocery store…..and this one is the BEST. We are going back to shoot a piece there for the pilot – they do some unique tours (how many grocery stores give tours?????) and we want to show the world what a grocery store can be. Hey – eating clean healthy food is part of yoga practice!
Well – we needed that lunch, because our day was just beginning. We got back in our 3-vehicle caravan and drove east – 40 minutes into the hills of Escondido. Our destination – the Universal Temple of Higher Consciousness (www.uthc.tv) When we arrived the sun was just setting on the hills, this place is GORGEOUS. Just a divine environment. But we had work to do – we spent a bit of time designing the two sets – and then it was time to roll again!
