APOSTATE: Or, Why I'm a Bastard.

I was just re-directed to an intriguing article on Gilded Serpent (not mine, of which more later), where the dancer Leila tries to lay out what she feels Middle Eastern audiences expect from a dancer.  What I wanted to do,...

I'm so excited!  I finally got around to dropping a line to Professor Amnon Shiloah, writer of Music in the World of Islam, a critical work in doing my period raqs research. In question was a reference to period works...

Swiped ruthlessly from a post I made on Tribe on this subject. I made some minor edits, and re-post for posterity (or, at least as long as I pay the bills). Notes on developing into a Raqs teacher: Focus, for...

This'll be brief. Years ago, I got a wonderful little dance mag out of Florida, that was amazingly full of excellent and well-researched articles on the dance; sort of a thinned-down and refocused ARABESQUE, for those who recall that mag....

I promise to get back to Bedlah soon, FYI. In the meantime, from recent doings at Bhuz.com, two online services of dubious legality, and one article: Mazikana : Downloadable MP3s of current Arabic music Karima.ru : Some of the galleries...

Re: Restaurants - Newbie here (in The Biz of Belly Dance) Thoughts:

* Don't bring all your performances., just the best two or three. Aside from simply putting your best foot forward, it's unlikely this guy will watch them all.

* The more professional you appear, the easier it will be in the end... read more

Re: Troupe building question (in The Everyday Bellydancer) I'd have to somewhat disagree with a number of respondents. Having been friend with a number of people who've started belly dance companies, what occurs with the most successful, the most innovative is that there's a vision, first. And that's us... read more

Re: fabric "hardener?" (in Tribal Costuming) Depending on how "hard" you need it to be, you might look into fray check, or the insta-seam products that are, essentially, lighter fabric-oriented glues.

Re: Looking for a web site designer with strong graphic design skills (in Belly Dancing - the Shira.net Tribe) Shira,

Have you looked into a CMS, or even re-working something like WordPress or Movable Type? The new, open source version of MT is insanely powerful for doing article work, and I think either one will kick-start you down a good path w/o hav... read more

My Blog

Who says I don't listen to my friends? :)

So, the decision's made -- once I get out of my current project set, I'm going to teach dance, once again. And, and I just posted on APOSTATE about, I will charge:

apostate.raqsstorm.org/the-pr...ee.html

I also have developed details that some of you have seen, but I'm not quite willing to make public, yet. Suffice to say I'm putting a lot of time and effort into making this class not just effective, but _different_. I want d... read more

Hey folks,

Sorry if you see this in more than one place, but I know some of you read me, and not the tribes I'll be posting this to. I've been asked, once again, to teach bellydance for local Scaidans. The issue at hand is, of course, how to keep them "on the farm" -- that is to say, active and interested.

I'm not interested in teaching for a lark, or for something to fill a hour timeslot It'll be an "intensive", with homework, and lots of practice, and drills -- the whole nine yea... read more

I'll say this, and I say it as someone who's been on the net for *mumbly mumble* years now, and works on systems for a living.

Don't get off Tribe. But DO expand your connections. You'll notice I recently posted for RealSpace contact info:

people.tribe.net/asim/blog...31f8a71313

As much as that was about my lost phone, it's also about the simple fact that you want to have ways to communicate. I'll confess that I've always despised the small-minded la... read more

My thanks to everyone who thanked me on my Laureling. Sorry I couldn't respond, but it was jumping from busy with that to busy with Pennsic University, as well as another project, of a sort...

So here's pictures:
