My friend. I am thankful she has found me interesting enough to be friends. She's walking her own path, rather, she's carving a new path, spreading light and wisdom along the way. Many will follow this new path, and continue the legacy she has already begun. She is unafraid to be the only one with an opposing opinion, and *express* it. She is warmly attentive to those she considers friends, and it's genuine. I feel her unconditional, fierce loyalty from the other side of the Earth.
She's funny, almost dangerously witty...you have to be on your A game to see the humor behind the cerebral words of wisdom.
She's kind. Encouraging, and finds the good in people until she's given a reason to believe, otherwise. I just adore her. She's a breath of fresh air, like spring rain cleans the air...nice and clean and refreshing. Nothing compares to her, and that's why I love her!

Astrid says what she thinks, no holds barred.
She's well informed, witty, and forever ready to jump dead center on false assumptions.
She will make you think.

I just checked out Astrid's Aala Dameeti performance part 1 and 2 and I love the way she has her own style and interprets the music. She's very womanly and sensual and-it sounds corny-but after watching the videos I actually had a tear. The Japanese people there seem so appreciative of her sharing her art-it's intimate and heartening. Belly dance used to be this way a lot, each woman her own style, a lot now, too much alike. The music is very nice as well.
Keep on dancin' Astrid!

About Astrid the poet . . .
“And if you want to know more about me, my poetry is maybe just about as naked as I get, emotionally”, you said, and that you need not to say to a man from orient twice. My dear Astrid: I die to see you naked as you get!
Well know I have been reading your love poems and I am very thankful to may to take a look at the colourful world inside you. Sometimes there is this intellectual woman’s voice I hear, she knows different perspectives and has her own surprising view about the world. The other time there is this suffering archetype lover burning in the fire of love and nostalgia eyes full tears asking for even more fire and pain.
But there is beyond and above this, there is a drunken poet in you, her creations are like magic, here is alchemic transformation on work. The poet colour the life with heavenly yet humanise metaphoric silky substances:
But you moved like a cat
And so I stretched my body
Under yours and relaxed . . .
Not the intelligent brain of the poet and not the echo of the burning prototype lover in pain but the drunken heart is talking to as, no even better, singing for us the hymen you only hear in the temple of the priestess wine of love worshipping:
. . .
And the violets are
Piercing their petals
Through the melting snow
Is when I will feel your hands on my skin
When the sky turns red
And the birds are silent
And the thunderclouds gather behind the horizon
Is when I will feel your lips touch my ear
When the lightning cracks
And the thunder rolls
Is when I will cry your name
And it is then that my heart trembling and I feel honoured, touched and (allow me to say it like it is) in love with the poet. I bow for you. Thou Art God.
With love and respect,
Shervin

Madame Michel has the elegance of the hedgehog: on the outside, she's covered in quills, a real fortress, but my gut feeling is that on the inside, she has the simple refinement as the hedgehog: a deceptively indolent little creature, fiercely solitary- and terribly elegant.
Muriel Barbery
"She was what attracts me more than anyting else: a rebel. What a delight to find someone who is truly himself , who rejects prejudice, servitude, banality, and who moves through life as freely as a bird through the air."

I found this on the gilded serpent today:
Sirocco in Crisis
SIROCCO is the duo Sulyman el Coyote (on right), and Armando Mafufo.
In case you have not heard, Sol has lost almost everything he owns. If his neighbor hadn't wakened him at 6am on the 22nd of May, Sol would not be with us right now. He saw embers blowing toward him at 40mph. He was one street over from where the fire started. Sol had just time to grab his guitar, fiddle, laptop, (couldn't find his cat unfortunately) and got out with the flames chasing him. He went back after the fire was out (we were all hoping that he was one of the lucky ones whose home was bypassed by the flames) but unhappily he found a pile of ash. Instruments, drums, costumes, photos, music collections - ash.
His jewelry, zil and shoemaking machinery, tools supplies, stock and workshops were all gone- a lifetime of history gone.
So Mishaal has decided that our Mother Earth Cabaret bellydance show at Gokai this Sunday will be a charity show for Sol. We hope that as many of you as possible will attend, please spread the word !

about me
Who Says Words With My Mouth?
All day I think about it,
then at night I say it.
Where did I come from,
and what am I supposed to be doing?
I have no idea.
My soul is from elsewhere,
I'm sure of that,
and I intend to end up there.
This drunkenness
began in some other tavern.
When I get back around
to that place,
I'll be completely sober.
Meanwhile, I'm like a bird
from another continent,
sitting in this aviary.
The day is coming when I fly off,
but who is it now in my ear
who hears my voice?
Who says words with my mouth?
Who looks out with my eyes?
What is the soul?
I cannot stop asking.
If I could taste
one sip of an answer,
I could break out
of this prison for drunks.
I didn't come here of my own accord,
and I can't leave that way.
Whoever brought me here
will have to take me home.
This poetry,
I never know
what I'm going to say.
I don't plan it.
When I'm outside the saying of it,
I get very quiet
and rarely speak at all.

The other day I found a comment on my youtube video of my Turkish floor show. It came from an 34 year old Arab male in Algeria and read: "hehhehhheh leya alwi la pute egyptienne" which means, if I interprete google's translation of "leya alwi" into "I awareness" correctly:: "Heheheh, I know that Egyptian whore!"
Now is that a compliment to a German bellydancer in training, trying to look a bit like a Turk? Maybe I should add that to my avatar for a while, "Canela, la pute egyptienne". What...

Last night I was given the task to dance the Goddess of Eurynome, during bellydance class. I had pulled her card from a goddess deck.
So here is her story:
Eurynome's Creation Myth
Eurynome was easily the most important Goddess of Pelasgian myth. She was the Great Goddess, Mother, Creatrix, Ruler, called the Goddess of All Things.
Eurynome was born from Chaos, and her first work was to separate the water from the sky. When she had accomplished this, she began to dance across t...

"I would hate to be in one of your classes - I've come to see you as a sanctimonious (and sometimes ridiculous) closed minded academic rather than a teacher or even just an inquiring mind.(...) If you were half as smart as you thought you were, you might have half the merit of the many people you seem to despise and certainly (often subtly) put down so often in this, and other, tribes. "
