The Fine Art of Time Manipulation
I would love your answers to this one (as comments)
Sun, May 10, 2009 - 3:04 PMIt's been over 24hrs offline again, and hardly any action is ever seen around anymore. I did see it coming, but it amazes me how some of us have stuck around after even those who actually fought to keep Tribe running last Winter fled.
I'm listening.

Because the other options are inferior.
(Hi Awen!)
No other networking site allows discussion the way tribe does, and I mean this in regards to the formatting. Yes, we suffer through down times, yes we suffer frustrations, but overall - tribe rocks. tribe was never intended for the purpose it has grown into. This is the base issue - they way it was coded/written needs to be updated. *They* are working on it. There is hope for the future, and I plan to keep that hope alive! HOPE! : ) Thank you for asking! : D |

I do really like the way you can share pix, blogs and stay in touch. I really dislike the problems and the way it makes everyone stay away. I guess I am hoping that someday they will get it fixed. It seems everyone comes back every so often and when it is fixed maybe they will stay.
If there are good alternatives, I would like to know. I really enjoy Tribe when it works. |

The format on Tribe is superior in that it allows for an ongoing in-depth discussion, connecting with others in specific interest areas (replete with easy links and photos), and attracts a much more mature (in the sense of real versus sophomoronic) and more progressive crew than other online forums, in my experience. Facebook and Myspace are lowly turds, imho, compared to Tribe. I hope more people pitch in and vote, tangibly, with the support of their money for Tribe to receive the upgrades it needs to not suffer outages. Ultimately, we get whatever we pay for, so.... |

I just finished posting this in reply to Mickey's latest blog about Tribe management's lack of communication with members: (quote)
I don't know a damn thing that's going on with Tribe, but I still catch gossip and it's always dreadful, and I would dearly love some reassurance. The most frustrating thing is all the downtime, especially the unscheduled downtime. Months ago we were told, the problems with the servers have been taken care of and there shouldn't be any more problems." Somebody has not yet figured out that waiting is *far, far* more bearable when one knows the nature of the delay. I'm willing to wait, uncomplaining, for days and days if I know that it is unrealistic to hope that Tribe will be up because the holdup is complicated. Things take what they take. The maddening thing is the unpredictability. It seems to me a huge problem that even with all the Tribemembers who've left in droves in the past few years, the supposedly improved servers still don't have the capacity to support what little traffic is left—I don't even bother trying to woo back friends who left in disgust because the minute I let my guard down and stop fearing that Tribe is gonna go *poof* and be gone in a cloud of electrons, the next time I try to log in I get the damn message saying "capacity problems" or whatever it is. Being a member of Tribe is a lot like what I've heard it's like to have parents who are chronic drunks—you never know what to expect; when you're given news, it can't always be counted on; and everything has been covered up so desperately that no one knows any more what was reality and what was solely in the realm of mythology. Steven, I don't think paying for a Premium star below your photo is what will bring the old Tribe.net back. During the two blackouts last year, several ppl were paid members--at least half of my friends list back then. I believe it was actually when Tribe made most money, because they also had a huge space in every page for ads. And it went offline for a whole week at least once. But then, as Khrysso wrote just below you, we never know what's up when we hit Tribe.net on our browsers, but we certainly know that Tribe's down for "unscheduled maintenance". They just don't know what a schedule is, it seems, and I'm not giving my money for these guys.
I'm now playing with Dreamwidth.org, but it's definetely not as fabulous as Tribe. net once was. |

cause there are people here that I can't find anywhere else, and I like hearing what they have to say. I have noticed that posting has been waaaaaay down, but eh. I will stick it out to the bitter end.

I keep connected because of the Burning Man info and peeps, and friends that are still here. I bet Tribe workers just about bite their nails down to the elbows when they have problems.
