happy birthday robert palmer
Sun, January 18, 2009 - 11:28 PMand thank you ronnie-oh! for introducing me to him little over a year ago ...
yes, that's right, eye was asleep for over 14 years,
and did not realize the meaning of the following quote
until mr. muse-ical man introduced me to r.p.
and at least one hundred others
"Every once in a while we have feelings so deep and so special that we have no words for them. Music names them for us, only in notes instead of in words. It's all in the way music moves -- we must never forget that music is movement, always going somewhere, shifting and changing, and flowing, from one note to another; and that movement can tell us more about the way we feel than a million words can." ~ leonard bernstein on "what does music mean"

www.youtube.com/watchRobert Palmer is famous for several reasons. Firstly, as you will hear in this song, he made the very important cross over between Caribbean hypnotic polyrhythyms and the looping repeats of proto-house music. He also decided to follow an ever so British example of moving to a tropical paradise away from the flash bulbs of the paparazzo. Another cause for his fame is the use of the "bouncy girls" on the early MTV vignette "Addicted to Love". I can assure you that many, if not at least one, teen-age boy was coaxed through adolescence with the pulled back hair, lip stick, tight dresses and the throbbing beats. You'd like to think you are a immune to the stuff, oh yeah. It is closer to the truth that you can't get enough... May he rest in peace. |
