Greetings to Those Who Groove!

This Saturday night The Groove Garden presents a truly globetrotting experience on both the dancefloor and in the chillspace!

In addition to all the Dragonfly-mixed 3rd-World (metaphorically, not categorically) scrunchy, funky roast of rippin' riddims, techy chompers, housey bumpers and dubby wonders - we have a super-special live set by DJ/Musician/Producer Jef Stott premiering his newly released tracks from "Saracen" (Six Degrees Records).

Now, to sidestep any queries regarding nepotistic journalism we will attempt to separate ourselves from the fact that Mr. Stott is a good friend of the Groove Garden, as is Six Degrees Records, and that this release is one of their finest albums: Deeply captivating, melodically mysterious and movement inspiring.

Saracen's (Saracen refers to the nomads of Syrian and Arabian deserts during the time of the Roman Empire) compositions are like freed doves: Beautiful in flight, symbolic of our yearnings, hopes and wonderment. In this instance imagine the doves are set to flight against a backdrop of twisted, crumbling casbahs and jasmine scented souks where live oud, crackling percussion and mystic vocals are tempered by deft rhythmic programming. Saracen's deep basslines bluster, grip, toss and turn with the tempos. They register as upsurges as garrulous as camels or as gentle as swells of the Arabian Sea. And on the album, Vocalists MC RAI, Reda Darwish, and Hooman Fazly meet listeners at the intersection of an exotic array of melodic and expressive instrumentation, the likes of which are an arsenal to the vocabulary of any Scrabble enthusiast: Riq, Saz, Santur, Oud, Dumbek...

Saracen live (or on the album) is not a dance experience, or a listening experience, its journey beyond your own horizon of flight.

Now...elsewhere:

Out the door, down the hallway of our own bazaar of beats is the chillspace:
Here we have Makuru, where an epic 3-hour set is the expression will be the expression of some of the Bay Area's finest musicians. Featured this evening, we have a musical depository of some wonderful kind of nu-world trade route that sees Bansuri flute, Didgeridoo, Tablas, Electronic drums, Bass, Guitar and Vocals blend in deep, meditative ragas, swirly Asian ambience and African funky groove. Renowned percussionist Geoffrey Gordon and Nepali flute player Manose step in as special guests, joining Anastasi on guitar, Marty Fowler on bass, Jackie Castro on vocals and Peter Warren on drums!

Chill, chai and massage and treats…all on hand, all night, to serve up your needs.

The 13th Edition of the Carnival of Cultures in Berlin
(9th to 12th May 2008)
Street Parade, Street Festival, Children's Carnival

When the lust for life and the delight of colours unite and old and young are dancing in the streets together and creating a festival of tolerance and variety then Berlin is celebrating the Carnival of Cultures. During the four-day festival 1.3 million visitors will experience the capital at its best: cosmopolitan, dynamic, buoyant, diverse and colourful.

Street Parade 11th May (Whitsunday)
Hermannplatz – Hasenheide – Gneisenaustraße – Yorckstraße
from 12.30 pm to 9 pm

The world is at home in Berlin and the evidence is clear: devilish looking creatures from Cameron, colourful dancers from Bolivia, break dancers of all nations who are domiciled in Berlin, Neukölln will fill the streets. A lonesome violinist on a rooftop competes with gigantic samba drums while trumpet players lead a brass band and an Indonesian gamelan orchestra touts for the grace of the audience. The procession is made possible through the cooperation of 4500 participants from roughly 80 different nations nearly all of them are inhabitants of Berlin. They are a firm part of this city, bringing charisma and making it what it is today: a modern European metropolis.

Street Festival 9th to 12th May
Blücherplatz, Blücher Str., Zossener Str., Waterlooufer
(Friday 4 pm to 12 am, Saturday/Sunday 11 am to 12 am, Monday 11 am to 7 pm)
Step out of line!

With Türkpop, Balkanbeat, Afroreggae, and Latinrock, this four day street festival has the right tunes to make you dance and feel right at home. Acrobats, wizards, tight rope and stilt walkers, clairvoyants, percussionists, curiosity marketeers and other wondrous creatures bustle on the green field at Blücherplatz. With culinary delights and beautiful arts and crafts, up to 400 original stalls will invite the visitors to stay.

Dress up!
"assimilant", "prekariant" or even "ndh" we took the best slogans from policy and society and put them directly on t-shirts. They are a perfect fit for people with or without a migration background, and even for those who can't be pigeonholed (yet).

Children's Carnival 10th May
The Children's Carnival – organised by the Kreuzberger Musikalische Aktion– is one of the biggest family attractions all year. This year the kids will be inspired by the theme "kidding with the badger", creating their own imaginative parade.
Afterwards the families are invited to continue the party at Görlitzer Park where the youngsters will present their artistic skills on stage.

Parties and festivals organised by the partners of the Carnival of Cultures give visitors the opportunity to experience Berlin’s remarkable DJ music and dance scene.

The Werkstatt der Kulturen is the initiator and organizer of the Carnival of Cultures and is located in Berlin-Neukölln. It’s a place for international exchange, where people of different nationalities, cultures and religions come together.
We are very happy to have Dr. Prof. Maria Böhmer, Commissoner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, and Klaus Wowereit, governing mayor of Berlin, as patrons of the event.

Saturday Is OUR day to DANCE - PRAY - PRAISE - PEACE!

Hello Beauties!

Please join me this Saturday May 3rd for one or Both of these amazing Events.

IN THE MORNING IN MARIN
PeaceBody Oneness Activation Dance and Ceremony
10-1 at Marin Ayrveda, Fairfax

This is an opportunity to totally let go and embrace all that IS in the dance of life. In this time of the great turning and of increasing chaos, what is NOT the dance? Dancing Freedom is a divine dive into Collective Avatar through Sound, Motion, Breath and Meditation. Dancing into the Center, we arrive at the Self who is inherently One with all that is, we arrive here together, and create new steps for the luminous now. An Ecstatic, Somatic and Shamanic multidimensional container for release, return and rebirth into our authentic unity in diversity. What IS oneness, anyway? How do we DO this together? Excluding nothing, we dance communion, authenticity and unconditional love - together.

Enrolled students interacted with successful artists, business owners, community activists and leaders, musicians, and healers from throughout California to explore what it is to bring one?s deepest values and passions into action, in service of the greater good. As an integral part of their curriculum, these 9 students helped to co-create the ?Awakening Heart? event. It takes the form of a dance marathon ? many youth enrolling the sponsorship of their communities as they dance, sing, and serve for peace and creative freedom for planet Earth. Please lend your feet and heart to the cause!

The Berkeley event will be linked with several other smaller community gatherings around the world, hosted by former participants in Child of the 21st Century programs. The funds raised will help to support global young leaders to participate in the organization?s year-long leadership training program, which supports and empowers these youth to create, launch, and lead social venture and service projects in their home communities. Come, join, serve, celebrate!

    </a>
										<div>Dear ones,

tomorrow night is Beltane (some Wikipedia explanation below), we will dance a fire dance, a dance of purification and blessing for the coming summer. If you like you can bring things for the altar that represent states, patterns or situations you want to let go of, purify your life of. We are looking forward to dancing with you through this time.

I also would like to invite you to participate in our next Core Connexion Deeper group, which will lead into the next Training. I am attaching the information for that in this email. We will start on May10th! This group is especially suited for people who would like to go deeper with their practice. We will practice
* Dance as meditation, expression and healing ritual
* Centering, grounding and energy management
* Ways of perception and observation
* Identifying personal resources
* Understanding the body’s messages as a mirror of our psyche
* Dynamics of the energetic body
* Exploring the relationship to ourselves and others in life and dance
* Core Connexion principles - being in the NOW
* Giving creative and appropriate feedback
* Holding an accepting and healing space for ourselves and others
We will experiment with and practice the different techniques of Core Connexion: movement, psychology, touch, centering and expressive arts. We will gain a deeper understanding of our experiences through discussion, theoretical readings and small lectures. Between the training weekends, the participants will deepen their individual understanding through reading, writing assignments, home practice and peer meetings.
The Core Connexion community retreat is part of the Deeper Group. If you like to participate, please let me know by this coming Friday May2nd.

We are looking forward to dancing with you !!!!
Lots of love
Eva ( yes and John will be there too), Kathleen and Anthony

Here we go on Wikipedia and Beltane:
In Irish mythology, the beginning of the summer season for the Tuatha Dé Danann and the Milesians started at Bealtaine. Great bonfires would mark a time of purification and transition, heralding in the season in the hope of a good harvest later in the year, and were accompanied with ritual acts to protect the people from any harm by Otherworldly spirits, such as the Aos Sí. Like the festival of Samhain, opposite Beltane on October 31st, Beltane was also a time when the Otherworld was seen as particularly close at hand.

Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco happens April 22-25, 2008 at Moscone West. Whether you're new to the Web 2.0 world or an expert or in Ajax, Ruby, tagging, the social graph, user experience, meta-programming, search engine marketing, community building, web operations, user-generated content, building startups from scratch, or "Web2.0-ifying" the enterprise, come to Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco and immerse yourself in the Web 2.0 experience.

Tracks at Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco 2008:

Strategy and Business Models
Marketing and Community
Design and User Experience
Fundamentals
Development
Focus on Mobile Web
Focus on Web Operations
Focus on Social Platforms
Sponsored Sessions

Web 2.0 technologies are empowering us in ways we could only have imagined even just a few years ago. We're able to build more, connect more, have more fun, sell more stuff, share more than ever before—and do it all faster. But as the pace of change and innovation accelerates, separating signal from noise, useful from annoying, genuine from fluff becomes increasingly challenging.

What tools and applications are right for a given project? How can we provide a more meaningful experience for users and customers? How can we have a positive impact on the world we live in? What are the ways we can create more value for our businesses? How do we gather and focus datapoints to deliver relevant information? How can we increase conversation and collaboration?

The second Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco takes the pulse of the Web ecosystem and looks to its future, training a spotlight across the Web 2.0 universe to illuminate how the Internet Revolution is being created and delivered. Web 2.0 Expo is for the builders of the next generation web: designers, developers, entrepreneurs, marketers, business strategists, and venture capitalists, people who have experiences to share and a passion for learning--the hot new thing, lessons from failures, innovations and inspirations, and the practical applications of all of the above. What will you do with the power of Web 2.0?
