Does anyone NOT know and love Susie Kameny? I could extol her virtues, but I recently had a bizarre experience that has convinced me I'd just be preaching to the susie.com converted. Seriously: I posted a personal ad to a website, and Susie and I were clowning around in one of my pictures. About 1/2 of the e-mails I received were, "Hi - I think I recognize a friend of mine in one of your photos. Is that Susie Kameny?"

What insight I can offer is this: Susie is an icon of eudaimonism. She's a woman of principal, who stands up for what she believes in, respect others' perspective AND will most certainly make her perspective known and challenge you, is devoted to education, and seeks to live her life doing the right thing. How many other folks out there can brag that their favorite person (a) tells them they need to pay more taxes, (b) is angered by any show of apathy in the political sphere, and (c) has her students CALL them with play-yard questions? I love listening to her stories about teaching because it's so obvious she's rewarded by her work, and just knowing her is a true reward in herself.

Oh, and she's cute, too. And the best friend you could ever have. But then again, you already knew that (of course).
