another move..

Logan's work has brought us to nanaimo..which i had my reservations about, but now that we're settled i like it alot here. there aren't alot of dance parties here.. no 'raves' at all, and very little in the way of hip hop..i haven't come across any flyers for jungle or drum and bass parties.. but i'm close to vancouver if i need that, and since i'm not going out to bars and clubs every other night i'm saving alot of money..i've been painting and sewing alot, and though i took a break of sorts from music when i moved here, there are many amazing musicians in nanaimo thanks to the jazz program at malaspina college. i think i'm going to take voice lessons and quietly work on my album without rushing myself. i've met alot of people out here, but i am very excited to see good friends from calgary when i come to visit in the spring..i'll keep all you lovelies posted on that trip.. we'll have to go dancing for sure. much love from the west coast!

new home

i have just moved to the west coast, and it is freakin sweet. it's green, there is moisture in the air for my dry skin, flowers everywhere, a palm tree in my front yard, and wicked awesome graffiti walls right close to my house. there is a train track out behind my backyard, and plants just filling up all spaces, it's magical..i haven't gone out dancing yet, but i have hopes there's some good places to go..today me and my old man started a three day master cleanse..first days over, and the first day is always the hardest, for me at least. but in a couple days i'll feel like a new lady, and i'll have the energy to go kick a dancefloors ass and get rowdy celebratory with people here (i've been cranky and antisocial alot, because i live in a house full of loud rowdy boys and there's still a big mess in our space and i want to be unpacked and set up but i need to get my ass in gear and get'er done....oi vey, but it's already worth all the work , this place kicks ass. though i do miss you all in calgary already. i love you guys. ttfn

expression leads to the best kind of high. though the night was a bit chaotic (solar flares maybe?) i had such a good night, and seeing so many people i love, then meeting new people who i got to sing for was wonderful. thank you Vi An!

in case no one noticed..

i did not do a show on boxing day...it was rescheduled for jan 9th..tuesday..startin around ten..at the amsterdam rhino11th ave and 5th st sw... i won't be on till a bit later, probly closer to midnight.. no cover..but if we make $2000 liquer sales we get a weekly spot at the rhino, so come have a drink or two with me and hear some of what i've been working on lately... Geosphere and ChrisB are also spinning records..

for soundlab studios! soo..the boys from the newly opened soundlab studios have been nothing but spectacularily supportive and helpful to me; they are helping me put together a demo and promo package for my music so i can apply for this grant they told me about, and thru them i wil be putting out a full length album over the next while. they are putting on the first of many nights at the amsterdam rhino in calgary on boxing day, which your's truly wil be performing at. also on the bill is mc black rose aka the black ninja who has been doing dub at the pub at the bamboo tiki room for the past however many years..booya. working in a fullblown studio is still slightly intimidating for me.. all them flashy knobs n buttons n cords.. but the boys there make it nice n easy for me.. trax come together smoother than i always expect producing stuff with mr derek demasi too.. so yo! all you who dug my set at UBER; the boxing day show will be even sweeter as i will have all origonal beats finally.. plus come to support a very smashing new studio..okay..more blatent promotion to come...love you all

burning man crunch time fast approaching...

well, the bc visit was wholly refreshing and inspiring..got to visit some dear old friends and met some magical new ones.... shortly after getting back, got a message from the outspoken wordsmiths, who are back in the province for the month..will be doing a show at the Soda on the 28th of july with Blank Space from osws's, and strong cottenwood's is gonna stick around for the while and head to the burning man with kristine and i... trying trying trying to get at least a short demo cd recorded to bring to the playa, but at the very least i'll have my guitar and a beatboxer for the show with nuzla at center camp (my fingerpicking has improved grandly if i do say so myself..)
extra responsabilities at work have decreased the amount of time i have to spend making my art for the burnin man, but so long as i get there, i'll be giddy like a schoolkid on pixiestix.. the amazing bridgette had a meeting with city officials the other day about a market right off of 17th ave, she's spearheading the manifestation of a community market, and that girl has my utmost respect and gratitude for doing so much work on it, soon, calgary may have a progressive, conscious communion of artists and vendors on a regular basis, which would be so healthy...

ocean potion here i come!

i leave for vancouver on the 10th of this month, to ground myself and clear my head before what will be the most busy summer of my life, but also the most exciting one..i need to get my music together for my demo before burning man, as well as get ready to buy a house with my little sister when i get back. plus so many sweet babies have been born around me, i get to be auntie shelley to two new beautiful beings! my sisters baby, Honey Elizabeth Hansel, and my best friends child, Kahl Zeah Page. oh ya and i'm doing a country/bluegrass set at burning man..hot damn!

change of pace

that's what i need.. if only i wasn't a dancaholic, needing to go out at least once a week to get my fix.. i need to focus my energy on productive things this winter.. in a big way. if i spent half the energy i do partying on my other projects, i'd have built an empire. one of the books i'm reading right now is making me excited for the winter, it's In Praise Of Slow, by Carl Honore. i often get this strange sense of urgency these days, for no particular reason. slowing down, and observing all of my impulses as they come has been interesting. kind of makes me want to take a silent retreat from the world. i think i need to take a trip to the west coast soon. i haven't seen the ocean all year.
mmm..the shows went well..the first one better than the second. we had some sound issues at the second show..those crazy art students were rather disorganized..but it was still fun. i need to give myself a break from performances for a while though, work on new stuff, and my book. yessir..this winter is going to see me curled up at home with my guitar/laptop and a bottle of shiraz rather often. fuck ya.

busy week

well..got two shows coming up in the next ten days..and one's my first paid gig...pretty exciting stuff. i'm doing a couple songs with a stand-up-bassist...doing alot of jazzy stuff lately. looking so forward to samhain(or halloween if you don't know what the funk i'm talking about) both shows are costume parties too..
