Is big business evil?

I work mainly with corporate clients - big corporates. I tend to be somewhat of a cynic. Corporations are all about money and taking what they can from their clients. I recently had the opportunity to present a facilitation session for a big corporate client which had me questioning my cynical view. A really senior guy in the company shared his vision of using a corporate platform for the betterment of society, for abolishing poverty, and for creating a better world for our kids. Now I'm wondering whether my cynical view on corporations is valid. Are there still people out there doing IT for other than materialistic reasons. You tell me.
