It's hard to know exactly what technology will bring in the future, but what is knowable is that we can use it to do good things, if only we can evolve and keep pace.

Mean Spirited People
The blog you posted on the girl and how she is being treated is one of the main reasons I deactivate my FB account. I look around and I see people who think they are handling technology..........but the truth is that it is handling them. They think they are quenching some thirst when they engage in ugly, viscous behavior......... but the truth is they are feeding a fire, and when you feed a fire it grows. A day will come they might take a moment and look in the mirror...........and when they do they will not recognize what stares back at them because the person they once were will be long gone.

Same here on tribe. I became Sky Angel after some terrible drama as She Warrior. Lost my husband because of it. He was a troll on tribe anyways and a troll on FB. I still carry the scars of the horrors of tribe back when.

Sky Angel that is a terrible thing that happened to you, loosing your husband over it! I can only think your man did not have faith to love and trust you with sufficient conviction!
Yes I agree knowledge is not wisdom and intelligence can be narrow and not broad! Yes also I agree, I believe its the anonymity of communication that has allowed or encouraged those with hate or misplaced tom foolery and those who have mental illness to communicate destructively, but this is just an opening phase, as everything is traceable, every breath and dot and crossed T is recorded and ultimately can be used to prove the crime. Governments have laws to prevent obscenity, to rein in those who seek to insight, racist, sexist, inequitable views in speech and written communication, it just needs people to use those laws and take offenders to court. Also I am a strong believer that people should be transparent and open at all times. Lastly I think the time is ripe now for there to be a more obvious up front identification etiquette for social media. Perhaps voluntarily declaring ones identification with an authority? Then anyone who hides would be seen to be doing so and would not be treated seriously. Also for every victim of bullying trolling abuse there should be those who will stand up and be supportive, be a community that cares and is prepared to show it, just as there is in the physical non digital world. |
