Did you ever meet someone and know almost instantly that they represented what you truly like about people? That's who Nathan is for me.

"There is no radical distinction to be made between what a man is given in the way of mind, emotional make-up, and body on the one hand and, on the other, what he is given in the way of outward circumstances and environment. Together they form a significant whole, and all are aspects of a particular individual life.
The being between birth and death scrawls -- in matter and in events -- a pattern which, taken as a whole, expresses his unique identity. This man, So-and-So, is not a sealed personality moving through an alien environment. He is the sum total of all that he does and all that happens to him and all that comes within his range, spread out (from our point of view) in time and space, but a single, timeless fact in the mind of God. What we are and where we are cannot ultimately be divided. And to accept our destiny is to accept ourselves, recognizing that what happens to us is as much a part of our nature -- in the widest sense -- as the most intimate moments of our own selfhood. It is sometimes said that the fatal bullet has its victims name on it, and fits no other flesh. In the last resort, man looks at the love or anger or fear within him, and says, So this is me. Looks at his withered hand or wounded foot and says, So this is me. Looks at the woman he has married or the garden he has planted and says, So this is me. Looks finally upon his enemy and upon his death and says, So this is me. But in saying this, he bears witness to the fact that he is incomparably more than an itemised list of the elements that make up his individuality and its inseparable field of action." -Gai Eaton, "Man as Viceroy," Studies in Comparative Religion

So far the trip has been amazing. Went to Yangshuo first, climbed Moon Mountain, then spent a couple hours exploring an underground water cave, full of Cthuloid rock formations and mud pits for splashing around in. The next day we met up with Reed (a super cool Bay Arean who's been traveling around Asia for the past 6 months), we rented bikes for about 2 dollars, and rode about 16 mil... read more

Yardstick and clock face instead of hands. He has measured pain and pleasure both to death. I've felt the kiss, Of his narcotic lips, He has probed in the folds beneath my dress. I watch my feelings, Fade way revealing, A cold pathway to a bridal bed, But when he lays me down I just feign sleeping, Cause it's not time to go yet. No it's not time to go yet. There's cancer in the air, Think I've never been so scared, Of the cold metal numbness in my chest... read more
I haven't been writing much in a long time, and last night, for the first time in ages, something just wrote itself. For stories on my life, see my LJ, but this I wanted to reprint here.

Once more Sleep defeats me, Her tongues of static in my ears. Once more time she beats me, This bed, a rock-hard platter for my fears To be served, like cheese and wine, To Sleep, the greedy bitch, Who can never take Enough nights to slake Her thirst, enough To scratch her itch. ... read more
