03 November, 2008, Columbus Drive, Chicago, Illinois There are not very many opportunities to photograph this particular angle of the city at night. Traffic on Michigan Avenue was particularly congested as it was diverted off of Congress Parkway and away from preparations for the Obama rally. It's hard to fathom what rush hour will be like on Tuesday as the crowd begins to build. Apparently none of the Chicago Police are being allowed any time off in the course of the next forty-eight hours or so in order to adress security, and crowd and traffic control. Additional public transportation to accommodate the anticipated early rush hour will require cutbacks later in the night, post one a.m., in order to avoid violation of union, state and federal regs on length-of-shift for transit operators.

03 November, 2008, Columbus Drive, Chicago, Illinois There are numerous places where additional street barriers are stacked like this to accommodate crowd control when the throngs begin arriving the next afternoon. Businesses and universities in the area will be closing down for the day around three in the afternoon in anticipation of the multitudes descending on the vicinity for the Obama rally. As a couple of us speculated at work, if Obama were to lose we wouldn't necessarily want to be in the midst of an estimated one million really pissed off people.
