about me
I am veterinarian with a passion for surgery of all kinds. I enjoy many outside interests that keep me occupied in my off hours. I love getting outdoors and enjoying what Alaska has to offer. I have recently been exploring photography. I picked up my first slr in the last year and have tried to learn all the nuances of the buttons and dials. I started riding a mountain bike in 2005 and enjoy it tremendously. I have yet to ride it off road, but the trails around Anchorage are hilly enough that I'm getting in shape and appreciate the low gears an MTB has to offer. I am all for sexual freedom, especially since I have my kinky side, and wish there was more sex education for kids and adults. I have a houseful of animals. I used to have a wonderful husband but he recently succumbed to cancer.

Silly ramblings

That was me earlier today. I saw a chiropractor today. I have been to them before but it has been about 8 years since the last time.
I have never had the issues that I have this time before, especially the numb tingling fingers. That is distressing.
It turns out that I have subluxated vertebrae (dislocated spine). This puts a pinch on nerves and sends shooting pain down the shoulder and arm. Yuck .
I know that a lot of people are skeptical about chiropractic medicine. This is one of ... read more

While I was in Texas, I tweaked my back early in the week. I didn't think much about this, since this happens occasionally and then goes away. This time it just lingered with a progression of pain down my left arm. This is no fun and I'm tired of chugging down the advil with so-so results. If there is anyone that can recommend a good masseuse, I would greatly appreciate it.

I just had to share. I think that whoever does the alien type movies must have worked with doctors at some point. Some of the creatures that I have seen on the screen sure remind me of what came out today. I felt like I was in one of the movies and it was coming to get me.
So, to put this in perspective, the picture is of a spleen. Normally, this organ is less than a pound. This one however happens to be 8.5 pounds and the round part is the size of a soccer ball.

I got to have some wonderful sushi with Mishy tonight.
When I got home, the dogs let me know that they were feeling neglected and also starting to cross their legs. I let them out into the backyard.
Bullet, as usual was the first one in. She doesn't like the outdoors that much. Daisy likes to wander around the backyard doing her own thing. I looked out to see what she was up to and saw her digging around in the snow that was still present. No problem. I went back in to finish some thi... read more

My year started with my water pipes freezing on new year's day. This happened last February. Not a pleasant thing to have happen. The plumbers were able to come out the next day and had the pipes thawed in under an hour. Yippee!
I set one faucet to have a steady drip, hoping that there wouldn't be any more worry about freezing. Boy was I wrong.
On Sunday, I woke up to frozen pipes again. I called the same plumbers and was told that they had so many calls that there machine broke. I ... read more

My Recent Activity

Re: Haru Sushi (in Anchorage Foodies) I don't have much to add beyond what Amber said. I would agree that the rolls were slightly bland until soy sauce and ginger were added. That added the pizzazz they needed. I think it was a yellow dragon or yellow diamond. Can't remember now.

Dog-Whisperer is a great friend. She is genuinely kind, and gracious, and she is my role-model for emotional stability. She is like a rock, except a rock that can heal animals, and curse at stupid drivers. Also, she can cook like you wouldn't BELIEVE.

She truly is the "Dog Whisperer" ... but between you and me, I think she whispers to all the animals. I think she and they have some sort of understanding that surpasses the meaningless cerebral hum of the common human. Do not be surprised when she rises up one day with her army of animals and takes back the planet and fixes it up for humanity. She will be carrying a whip. Don't say I didn't warn you.

But seriously - K. is a wonderfully kind, caring person who bakes sinful treats and takes apart animal bodies and puts them back together with the same unearthly skill. That, combined with her sly, scalpel-sharp wit makes her a friend worth having, and I'm happy she is one of mine!

Fred is a REAL Wonder Woman, someone to admire.
She is strong and whoop-ass-y when she needs to do stuff like bike or sew up giant animals, but she can be lady-like too, like when it's time to have girly shoe shopping time.
Also, she really does own a pair of boots! I saw them!
But no cape.
Well, maybe a cape, but I haven't seen it.

Fred's a liar ... Fred's not really Fred's name. She's just a filthy liar. She's not a veterinarian either. I've seen her eat meat. Filthy liar.
