BIO

Elijah Sound is a multimedia artist from San Diego, CA whose work has garnered him acclaimed praise from around the world. Throughout his career, Elijah has chosen to express his strong opinions & ethereal nature through the artistic mediums of dance, music, photography, modeling, & fashion design.

Elijah’s dynamic dance style is a blend of American Tribal Style (ATS) Bellydance & Urban Poi Firedance, both accented with elements of Yogic Acro-Balance, Classical Indian, Sufi & Butoh. His technique is a divine powerhouse of World Fusion built on a concrete foundation of Ballet, Modern, Jazz & Hip-Hop.

Elijah’s statuesque figure & pronounced facial expressions have made him a highly sought after photography subject & fashion show & print model for cutting-edge, up-and-coming & underground clothing lines & photographers like Onda, Skin Graft, Sequoia Emmanuelle, Poetic Dream, Taboo Media, & Irene C. Herrera.

Beyond his pretty face & Adonis physique, Elijah’s versatility as a performer has afforded him numerous opportunities to work with/at a diverse array of performance companies & venues including La Chavot, El Circo, Lucent Dossier, Atash Maya, his self-founded Tribal Fire Cirque, Rez'a-rek"shan productions, Coachella Review, Tribal Fest & Burning Man.

Aside from his collaborative works with these reputable companies, Elijah is an accomplished soloist in his own rite. A rising hot commodity on the Bellydance circuit, Elijah has made his mark teaching workshops, performing & vending his wares in the United States, Israel, Japan, Korea & Indonesia.

As unique as Elijah’s dance style is, so is the clothing & costuming that he uses to frame the portraiture of his movement. Inspired by clothing designers that he modeled for, artists he admires, many different cultures, & world-renowned Melodia Melody, Elijah cultivated his brainchild, 2013. The award winning 2013 fashion line is a Punk & Funk twist on Tribal Fusion Bellydance Couture that has become a staple at Tribal Fest alongside Melodia Designs. (Eion2013.com)

With influences that truly span the horizon, Elijah has conjured a body of work in dance & otherwise that is designed to evoke spiritual & emotional awakenings between mind & body. This thaumaturgical energy facilitates a meditative approach to dance which makes even the most complex moves & combinations nearly effortless to execute.

SUMMARY

Free your hips & the rest will follow! Elijah Sound’s workshop takes an eclectic, modern-day take on traditional Middle Eastern Bellydance with Ethnic & Contemporary elements of fusion. Elijah’s curriculum focuses on strengthening & limbering practices through Yoga & Pilates, Bellydance basics, sharp muscular isolations & drills, floor exercises, choreography, performance techniques for soloists & troupes, male & female aesthetics, & Poi upon request.

“Shake it, Boys! Belly dancing (“Hüleya,” Q&A, April 29) is the new men’s sport. Well, not every man—only men comfortable enough with their femininity. Anyway, only girls connected to their masculinity can give a good [belly dancing] performance. We are under the delusion that male is masculine only and female feminine only. We must awaken to the realization that besides our anatomy we are both masculine and feminine. This is our full god power. Not God power, not Goddess power, and no capital G unless you can show me how to create the universe. Stick to what the big-G God has given you and express the beauty of all the riches of the gifts of masculine and feminine characteristics of your own divine god. If you don’t believe me you should watch me belly dance with fire! With love and respect.”

“I am an open book & nothing is too personal. From my experience as a performer since the 6th grade and now 31 & teaching, I’ve learned that if you got the moves, all you got to do is put the confidence in your face and sell it with your energy!!!! I work a lot on this in my teaching. I do guided meditations and affirmations that basically help allow people to put away the idea that they are not "good" dancers and help them understand that truly, 90% or more is the energy they give off with their face! All movement is correct. All things within the universe have a divine place, so getting out of our head that some of the awkwardness of movement might look weird and to truly just go with it and sell it. The more we open and get familiar with movement, the better we get at fine tuning, but basically, it all can work if we just keep dancing and doing it with intention. Not doing a move that perhaps was seemed to not be right and then turning off cause you thought you did wrong, but letting it flow into something else you might have never done if you hadn’t done it. We gonna rock it. Giving full acknowledgement to the power of the Goddess and fully embracing the God. Keep shakin’ it!! Aw yeah!!!”

Testimonials

“Dancing with Elijah… LIVING the music which is the only proper way to do it, which Elijah understands and embodies. Connected and committed to the moment, spinning and lifting and emoting that muse in every twist and twirl… perfect poetry of execution. Thank you for the dance and the love which is the context that makes it shine.”

“I think one of the most admirable things about Elijah is how he embraces each person he meets with unconditional love and truly like a saint. There is a soft gentleness to him and a beautiful presence that he douses on each person. And I've watched him embrace all beings the same. And of course the fashion and Elijah creations make any girl or boy or fairy or freak wanna rock some o dat! I'm definitely a yes for Elijah in the world! I acknowledge the God within!”

“There are many Beings who I Love very deeply in this world. I believe that all of life and all beings are sacred, though only few prove this to me. Elijah is one being who is absolutely sacred to me. I carry him in the holiest, highest place of love, honor, & respect in my heart. He is a walking embodiment of all the beauty, purity, magic, wisdom, sweetness, passion, depth & spiritual richness a person can be. To know him is to love him, to love him is to be given a supreme gift. He is a whiz at whatever he takes on and has a way of enchanting everyone in a room, no matter how large. Here you have it, ladies and gentlemen, in living flesh, prototype of the New Human, maximized to be the perfected union of Heaven on Earth. Soak in the inspiration. Elijah, you are SO completely amazing. You inspire, touch, heal, tickle, & return so beautifully all the love that comes your way. Thank you my dear friend! You have redefined how epic a human being can be for me.”
-----Dave

“You’ll see he is without doubt the crazzzzziest, fortified, real mo-fo of an angel you'll ever meet. No, seriously, Elijah, you light up my life. Your desire to be pure, to be with holy intent, is a reminder to me of what is missing in this world. Your inner soul is displayed by your ability to live life as a walking, breathing, artistic expression of human form. You have what others live their life in hopes to find out about themselves, when it comes to human expression. I should know, a good portion of who I am today artistically, is motivated by the standards you set for what is possible.”
-----Annaharrah

Purely one of the most amazing child-like beings I have ever had the privilege of meeting. I love his spirited, laughing eyes that twinkle with a mixture of all the things that delight him... & if you're lucky enough, you just might be able to catch some of those magical sparkles as they tumble out and soak them up for another day! Thank you Elijah for blessing us with your gifts... you do sparkle in such a spectacular way... and what a HOTTIE!!!”
-----Gwendolyn

“Elijah Sound is the divine spirit in all capacities! Just try to look away from him. Oh no my friend! He will draw you back in and you will be left wanting more and more. He can transform, transcend, beautify, create, move, transpire, & enlighten you to rise beyond anything you thought possible. Look into his eyes and see directly to the center of his radiant soul. You won't ever want to look away. Elijah is love. Elijah is unity. Elijah is one brotha who has some soul, creativity, sexuality, um yeah sweet sexuality, love, openness, rhythm, energy, talent, talent, & talent. He's one hot show pony! You would be blessed to have this man in your presence and to experience his love; there's nothing like it. I love you Elijah. You're always in my heart and forever in light. Shine On!”

I know of 2, but I don't feel that they are accurate reflections of his work. I have seeen some great still from when he danced with Atash Maya last year at Tribal Fest.
