Help me keep training by donating to help people with AIDS!
Basically, this is the deal:I need to raise $1000 more in donations that go to helping people with AIDS in order to continue and complete my marathon training.
I'm up to 17 miles on one long run, and 20, this Saturday.
Do what you can. It's easy enough by going to this webpage:
www.aidsmarathon.com/participant.asp
If it's not obvious why you would or wouldn't want to donate, consider this:
There are people who are living with AIDS who need more support than they can earn or cover somehow.
It's that time of year that we often give what we have to share to show the abundance we have our lives or to share what we have to give.
Since we probably can't afford the time to help people with our own time, which is the most valuable thing we posses, imho, another great way is to make a donation to help these people with AIDS.
Do what we can do, right?
All of your donation goes to AIDS Project LA.
So what I'm doing is training to run a marathon. This is not easy! Week before last, I ran 17 miles, one Saturday morning. On Saturday, I'm running 20. If the thought of running 26 miles doesn't make you want to jump up and start running, right now, please, support me by making a donation of $25, 20, 10, $50, $500, whatever it is, know you're helping me get my goal of $1500. I need to raise about a grand more.
Give what you can. It's easy enough by going to this webpage:

I'm greatful to the donations I've received and will receive. That's the spirit!

For those of you who haven't heard, I have begun training for the Los Angeles Marathon. That means I'll be running 26.2 miles through the streets of Los Angeles on March 2, 2008. I’ve always told myself that I would run a marathon. So when my closest friend said that she was going to train, I decided to give it a whirl. Weeks and weeks later, I’ve run scores and scores of miles, doing my maintenance runs, as well as weekly long runs, most recently the 14-mile, through Griffith Park, Burbank, & Toluca Lake. I would like to personally recognize my inspiration, Kim Jones, for encouraging me and helping me to wake up, early Saturday mornings, for our group runs.
My training began on September 8 with a 3 mile run, the weekend after Burning Man. Since then I have slowly increased my distance and will continue to do so over the next 5 months until marathon day. Yesterday I ran about 6 miles. Yeah, 6 miles. At once! It’s not about speed, but completing the marathon, and the training can be fun, too, with a little help from my friends. Accomplishing the goal of running 14 miles, the other week, and getting ever closer to my ultimate goal of running 26.2 miles was hugely rewarding and I couldn't have done it without the support of my running group. By the end of the program, I will have run over 500 miles, not including my weekly maintenance runs.
I am doing my training through the National AIDS Marathon Training Program which raises money for the AIDS Project of Los Angeles. Their guidance and instruction has been invaluable to me, which makes it my pleasure to raise funds for an organization that not only trains marathon runners, but also provides some of the leading AIDS services in the Los Angeles region. They provide direct services to more than 10,000 men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County: prevention and educational services, food banks, dental care, housing assistance, child care, transportation, mental health counseling, case management, home health care and many other invaluable services to the people of my community.
This is why I have made it my personal goal to raise at least $1,500 by December 7 for this cause. I would deeply appreciate any help you can give me reach my goal. You can visit my donor page on the AIDS Marathon website to make a personal donation of any amount (don't worry if you can't donate much, each dollar brings me that much closer to my goal!!) You can go to www.aidsmarathon.com, click on "Sponsor A Runner", Los Angeles, and enter my name (Kalib Kersh) or runner number, which is 3353. You can also try the following link:

If you are unable to make a donation at this time, I would be so grateful if you could tell anyone you know, or we know, who might like to help me. If you have any fund raising ideas you'd like to offer, I welcome any suggestions!!
FOR ALL MY FRIENDS IN LOS ANGELES:
If you cannot donate money at this time, but would like to offer your assistance, I will earn $20 for each friend I bring to my weekend runs who is willing to assist with water stations located throughout our several-mile routes. If this is something you are interested in, please email me and let me know.
This is definitely the most physically challenging goal I've presented myself with so far in recent years, though I'm sure it's nothing compared to the challenges faced every day by those living with HIV/AIDS. I couldn't think of a better way for you to help me help support the lives of the people facing this challenging syndrome.
Thank you so much for helping me with this huge undertaking. When I cross the finish line on March 2, I'll be thinking of you and the countless people whose lives we'll be affecting.
Thanks to you for all you do,
Kalib

sometimes I forget to dream, but now, I will
my dream job would involve
- documenting the environment, geologically, biologically, and chemically, and how people interact with it
- traveling around the world, talking to people, taking pictures, sound and video recordings,
- testifying to government and policy-making, powerful, and influential groups on how we can cultivate biological diversity and health of the planet and people
- learn about and disseminate information on technologies that are renewable and promote sustainable practices
- learn about and disseminate information on practices, organizationally, culturally, and otherwise, that promote health of people and the planet.
- learn about and disseminate information on how businesses can thrive as they help people, become more efficient, and accelerate regeneration of this beautiful planet we call home, as people are empowered to live more fulfilling lives.
so there you have it. and, now, so do I.
