I swear, I'm working!

There's a law in Missouri that you can't put names in a published case if it might reveal the name of someone who was a victim of sexual assault. And generally we try to keep juvenile's names out of cases if it might hurt their reputation or whatever. And if it's a termination of parental rights case, we can't put the names in either. But my judge doesn't like to use initials because it gets confusing and hard to read. So we always have to come up with psuedonums using the first letter of someone's actual name.

And I like to make it a more obscure name so it's harder to figure out the real name. Like if someone's name is "Rachel" and I change it to "Rebecca" every time the name is "Rachel", eventually it's more likely that someone's going to figure out the name. So I try to come up with something a little different like "Rihanna" or something.

Anyway, I usually go to babynames.com to help me come up with names to use. I'm always afraid someone is going to walk in my office and see me doing this, especially when it's a case where I have to change a lot of names, and be like "errrrrr.... are you pregnant?" And I'd be like "uh, no, I'm working..." and they're like "Suuuuuuuuurre."

Bonnie, you are so lucky that you aren't working around any of us. There would be weird pregnancy creams and vitamins all over your desk by now...and not neccesarily in their original container (ala brenda and ty and the dr. pepper vitamin)
