<div>Yes, I am still collecting penguins. I still want any and every penguin I can get my hands on. I don't care if you steal them. I don't care if you make them yourself. I don't care if they're painted on a tie (altho, collectibles are better than clothing). But yes, I am still accepting them. Penguin lamps, penguin figures, penguin art, penguin lights, penguin dishes, wooden, plastic, paper, cloth, glass, metal, hanging, standing, sitting, flying, lying down, stacked, flat, round, from near or from far, pretty, ugly, new, old, used, broken, faded, weird...so long as it's a penguin, not a puffin or duck (unless it's a duckquin).

AND my birthday is coming up. DECEMBER 8. Mark it now lest you forget. I'm sure I'll plan a dinner at some point. Just need to get my December schedule so I'll know when I'm off.

Also, I am still in Pacifica. I've been here since July and so far only 2 friends have visited me. If you are in the area or want an excuse to come this way, please let me know. Lots of good food here, great ocean sunsets. I even know of a bar that has free appitizers for happy hour; yes, just like in Texas!</div>

<div>Over 100,000 people have signed this pledge from the Courage Campaign—will you?

"We, the undersigned, are united in our refusal to accept a California where discrimination is enshrined in our state's constitution. We pledge to repeal Prop 8 and restore marriage equality to California."

Click here

Dear California MoveOn member,
A lot of us are sad and angry over the passage of California Proposition 8—which reversed marriage equality and wrote discrimination into the California Constitution.

Many people worked hard to defeat this measure—including MoveOn members, who contributed over $300,000 to defeat it. But agents of intolerance used fear-mongering to eke out a win.

The Courage Campaign (which does MoveOn-style organizing in California) is working with other groups to overturn Prop 8 in the 2010 election. That'll take a huge grassroots mobilization, starting now—and to succeed, they'll need an army of us fighting together to win marriage equality for all.

Over 100,000 Californians have already spoken out together by signing the Courage Campaign's pledge to help overturn Prop 8—can you add your voice today? Click here to see the pledge:

http://www.moveon.org/r?r=51024&amp;id=15120-3740873-20ESK8x&amp;t=3

Thousands of people are signing the pledge every day.

The "Yes We Can" spirit that America just embraced is strong in California. Many Californians have already gotten the ball rolling on this issue, but they need other good people to speak out now and add to the momentum. The first step is signing the pledge:
http://www.moveon.org/r?r=51024&amp;id=15120-3740873-20ESK8x&amp;t=4

Thanks for all you do.

–Wes, Joan, Carrie, Mari, and the rest of the team

P.S. Tomorrow (Saturday) there will be rallies in support of marriage equality in every single state. If you want to attend an event in your state, go to this page and click on your state name—you'll see the location of any rallies planned:

										<div>Normally, due to my travels, I vote by mail. Perhaps because of my recent move, I didn't receive my ballot. So today I drove to one of my county voting locations and did my civic duty.

I arrived to find a line of about 20 people in front of me. The whole thing took about 20 minutes. There was electricity in the air. People were excited. They were talkative, friendly and helpful. It was the most fun I've ever had placing my vote. I recommend it.</div>

<div>Today, for the first time in my life, I've made not only one, but two political contributions.

The lies being put forth by the McCain campaign make me speechless.

How he has moved ahead in the polls is beyond me and makes me start to lose hope in American people. Can they not see what they are doing?; choosing Palin with no experience?; griping about Obama's lipstick comment when McCain has said the same thing previously?

3 members of my very own family - people I love - have forwarded to me anti-Obama smeers sent to them. I think they believe them. Full of lies and half-truths. My very own grandmother actually thought Obama was Muslim until my mom set her straight.

It's killing me. And if 'they' win again with fear and lies, then I don't think there is much hope for America. It will be true, what I felt about W. Assmonkey Bush, that he was the begining of the end for our country. I think with Obama, there is still hope. But with McSame and Palin, we will continue to circle the drain until we very soon just go down it.

Today, I got a note from MoveOn.org asking for money to help fight the McCain lies being sent out by his campaign. I acquiesced and sent a donation to help the cause. Then I got on the Obama site and sent him money as well.

Today I heard something I love. The Republicans are making Obama sound like he's not experienced and keep saying he was nothing but a community organizer. Jesus was a community organizer. Pontius Pilot was a governor.

Enough!

<div>Not to detract from the accomplishments and ability of Mrs. Palin. But am I the only one who finds McSame's VP choice in the female governor from Alaska as the desperate choice of a visionless man?

A soccer mom? He's pandering to the women who wanted Clinton. He's so reactionary. Why wouldn't he go with experience? Even she stated in a past interview that him selecting her for the ticket would be outside the realm of reality.

Tonight

<div>Tonight I'm moved to grab the nearest American flag and wrap my 40-year old body in it.

The past eight years have been good and bad for me. Good experiences in a job I love and good times. But I am NOT better off than I was eight years ago. I make less money and work harder for it while my CEO takes home millions. I pay more rent and am forced to live further from work. The $60 plus it takes me to fill my car with gas is crippling while gas companies profit more than any company ever has in the history of business.

This country is hurt- this country is limping along. Our government if failing us.

Tonight I heard one of the best political speeches of my life. Obama's speech brought tears to my eyes no less than four times. I supported Clinton, but tonight after hearing Obama lay out his plans as President, as he spoke about his life and experience and as he spoke to his vision of how government and citizens have mutual responsibility, I know we have the right man running for office.

Obama can bring vision and change; optimism and hope; inspiration and a sense that America may not be lost and that people at the bottom - like me - have hope in our future.

I don't trust McCain and his vision. Barack Obama is an icredible man and is going to be our next president if I have anything to say about it. I would say that after hearing him tonight that he has the potential to be one of the better presidents in modern history.

Tonight I am proud to be an American where Bush has made me nearly ashamed; and I am proud to support his run for the White House. If you missed his speech to close the Democratic convention in Denver, do yourself a favor and watch it on line. If for nothing else than to see history in the making.</div>

    </a>
										<div>Back in the early 90s I got my ordination to perform Renaissance-style weddings.

I am still available to perform weddings. I specialize in non-traditional ceremonies and hand-fastings. Whether you are a same-sex couple, vegan-tree-hugging hippies or as normal as you would like to think you may be, I can bring you and your loved one together in matrimony.

About the only thing I won't do is a traditional, Christian-type ceremony.

Rates are negotiable and depend on time required, length of ceremony and distance traveled.

I can work with you on creating a ceremony or I can perform to your direction. </div>

<div>My professional Reiki services are available to you.

I've been practicing a natural form of Reiki for over three years. I received my first attunement while studying Reiki in Phuket, Thailand in early 2004. I can provide many references.

I can come to you, with my table, sheets, and the stool I need to sit on during treatments.

Sessions last 45 minutes to just over an hour. My rate is $70 per session. I also work on pets, and can also provide testimonials. Pet sessions last about 30 minutes (more or less) and I charge $40. I live in Pacifica so I do charge a little more if I need to work in the East Bay; however, if I'm working on multiple people, that can be spread out (1 travel charge paid by all clients instead of one client) so keep that in mind.

    </a>
										<div>So I didn't know I could go to the planned group outing to see the Batman on Imax tonight in the city until yesterday morning. By then all the tickets on line were sold out. I thought, maybe they hold some at the ticket office. So I got there early (3pm) to find out I was not correct.

I had a nice sit in the park, walked thru the mall and drank a smoothie, then went back to the ticket office to see what was going on.

It was 5:10. I notice a guy place something down at the base of a sign. He'd been standing near me, like he'd been waiting on someone. No one else seemed to notice him placing something down, so I went for it, picking it up and not making it look conspicuous. It was a ticket for the 500 Imax showing of the Dark Knight. I checked again; today's date, Imax, Dark Knight, 5pm. I bolted for the escalators, texting Ra on the way to let him know I was going to see the early show.

WOW! wow wow wowie, wow! What a movie! Heath Ledger's performance was really something. He really left us leaving us wanting more. There were times his performance nearly made me cry to think his talent has been snuffed out.

Long movie! Sore butt!

Afterwards, I got to meet up with most of the gang who were going to the sold out 830 show. Em thought she had a ticket, but turned out she didn't. So she and I had dinner and then walked to BART together before going our seperate ways.

I can't wait to see this movie again! I can't say that about too many movies.

About Imax, I've never seen a show on this screen. It was neat, but I would not pay the extra money to do so again. (Even tho I paid nothing to see it tonight!)</div>

<div>Last night, I watched the rerun of the memorial service for Tim Russert. I wanted to know something about his parents, so I Wiki'd him. I was amazed somewhat that his entry had already been updated about his death and service, and how presidential candidates and an ex president had been in attendance.

I was only mildly amazed, because Tim's death has received a lot of attention.

Just now, while watching David Letterman, I Wiki'd his guest, Terri Garr. She was visably affected by some sort of disorder. As her page was coming up the interview spoke about how she had MS and over a year ago she had suffered a brain annurism (sp?).

But what really amazed me was this. She was still on TV, sitting next to Dave, witty banter and all; yet her wiki was already on top of mentioning that on June 19 she appeared on Letterman where she revealed being struck with MS 25 years ago (it was sort of up in the air) and how she, as usual, engaged in witty banter.

How did Wiki know? Was wiki at the show taping? Does Dave work for Wiki? Was Terri Garr so bored today that she updated her entry? Or, is Wiki god?

BTW: gods bless Terri Garr. As a HUGE Young Frankenstein fan, I just adore her. </div>

    </a>
										<div>When I lived in Annapolis, MD I got to see the Olympic torch as it ran past me. I'd taken some time from work (easy to do when you're the boss) found a nice place just outside of town, and enjoyed myself. I felt such a rush when it passed by.

That flame would eventually go to the world games to look over the athletes who converged from around the globe. I felt like I was a part of it.

Yes, the Nazi's created this ritual of our beloved ancient games. A dear friend of mine did the research. It's true. I've known for years and didn't realize so many didn't. Hitler was big on rite. He was nearly Pagan, after all, and the Pagans nearly invented it themselves.

The other day I watched a movie where the lead comes out of the closet. Not really, but he had to appear to for financial reasons. In the process, his friends started to disassociate themselves from him. This guy, who they loved before, suddenly thought they didn't like him because they found out he was deeper than they had thought. People can be such sheep.

As I read blog responses from people now aligning themselves against the tradition of a torch run to start the Olympics after finding out their origins, I wondered why. These people loved the idea before.

I liken it to the Christians who shun the Christmas tree and eggs on Easter after learning they had Pagan roots. No matter the roots, it's now called the Christmas tree, after all! And to people who estrange others after finding out of their sexual orientation. They are the same people they've always been.

It's the same tradition it's always been.

With apologies to my friends who now think ill of the Olympic torch because it came from the Nazis, I must ask, had the Nazis discovered a cure for cancer, would that, too be a bad thing?

Oh, maybe they did, it is bad, and we've already destroyed the recipe as not to infect ourselves with anything from an evil regime.

Just my personal thoughts on the matter. I really don't care what others think of the torch. I like it.

Boycotting the Olympics?

    </a>
										<div>I find it amusing to read all of the comments from friends and such that they are boycotting this year's Olympics. Like you were planning on flying to China to attend?

How will anyone in China ,or anywhere, know or be affected by you turning on or not turning on your TV to catch Olympic swimming one day; or wieght lifting, or any of the other myriad of ancient greek-like sports?

We continue to buy thing with the little labels reading "Made in China" but, oh, those Olympics, nay, stay away!

I agree, China needs to be clubbed in the knees for some of the things they do. But if you are serious about boycotting the Olympics, then you really need to be serious about China, not the Olympics.

The athletes have nothing to do with a country's politics.

The spirit of the Olympics has nothing to do with a country's politics.

If anything, I think other countries should Boycott the US for many of the things our administration has done over the last 8 years.

I do agree that world leaders should stay away. I hope Assmonkey Bush stays away. But seriously, unless you have a plane ticket to Beijing and tickets to any of the sporting events, saying that you are boycotting the Olympics is as futile as sending an ant to represent the Earth to an alien planet.

Boycott China. Give the Olympics a break.

(OK, maybe give the selection committee grief for selecting China to begin with!)</div>

Farewell, Uncle George

    </a>
										<div>Yesterday, my father's brother passed away at the age of 68. He was a great man, my favorite uncle. Even tho he quit smoking 15 years ago, the damage had been done.

A few years ago he learned he had lung cancer. For years he'd been coughing and having trouble breathing. It finally caught up to him.

He pretty much beat the cancer a year ago, but he's been in the hospital a lot for pneunonia. Complications from this is what finally took his weak body from us.

As if I need another reason to HATE cigarettes. (It took my maternal grandfather as well, at the age of 75)

I post this as such, not only to let you know I've lost a family member, but in hopes that of my friends who smoke, I hope you can tolerate another message of how deadly smoking can be.

Quit before it's too late and the damage is done and you find yourself in a place where you HAVE to quit in order to simply breathe, and in which case it'll be too late and some day someone has to cry over your untimely death, even tho you'd quit 15 years earlier.

Uncle George never smoked a lot, either.

I'll miss you, George.</div>

The Nomi Song

    </a>
										<div>Last night, sick, trying to find something to watch on TV, I found a movie, no, a documentary, On Demand (comcast). The only reason I selected it was it had David Bowie as an actor.

I love Bowie and his acting can be really a sight to behold. So I gathered under my penguin bankie with my cat and started to watch the movie of the life of Klaus Nomi.

How have I never heard of this guy before? For the first 30 minutes of the film I thought it was a mockumentary. (Bowie's TV appearance on SNL with Nomi as a backup singer is highlighted.)

This guy was genious! Too bad he had to go and get the "gay cancer" and leave us. But as they say...it's always better to leave them wanting more!

I put "The Nomi Song" on the Pegnuin Approved list. Watch the movie. Google him. A few of his videos are on YouTube.</div>
