Happy Veterans Day!!!
Today is Veterans day.Thank your Veteran today for serving our country.
No matter what branch, what era, what war they served, they were there to serve without reservation for our country. People who choose to serve deserve more than one day. Many have paid a high price for our freedom....
My Great grandfather was a Colonel in the US army during the Spanish-American War.
My Father served in Vietnam.
For as long as I can remember, I know that price to serve and protect our country so well every time I see my daddy walk with his cane.
God bless America
The Change is NOW
Congratulations America, your voice was heard. Our 44th president is Barak Obama. I'm still reeling in from the successful campaign he has pitched to us consistantly of change we so desperately neeed. I certainly wish him the best as his mountainous task is at hand.I was listening to Obama's speech and it certainly was articulate - one of the best I have heard in a long time. McCain's speech was equally as stellar. It was very noble of him to concede with such positive words that usually are lacking in a political vocabulary. I think that speech in itself was the best hope McCain delivered to the American public.
What surprised me the most was while McCain was deivering his speech, MANY of his supporters of the Republican party booed him on the platform, like as if he failed to deliver what they deserved while they rode the coattails of the party. The looks on their faces and reactions surprised me. If I were in that crowd, I'd be very ashamed. In fact, I was embarrased.
Another thing to be ashamed of is the way people pit against each other. Differences are inevitable, but there IS a middle ground or a ground to respect from. I have heard from many people I have come across saying things of the upmost absurbity,
1)"If he wins, I'm moving to another country",
2)"there goes our country in the cesspool",
3)"brace yourselves for another four miserable years..."
3)"good the Democrats have America's problem, they'll see the Republicans are better at fixing what's wrong with America..."
OK, try to move to another country...I have been to other countries, have friends and relatives in other countries...there really isn't any place like the political balance we live in - remember high school government class???. Cesspool?? Compared to what?? Isn't that what we already live in with the turmoil we have experienced lately?? And another four years of misery??? I don't think it can get any worse than this...seriously.....passing the blame and load on a particular group while not helping America TOGETHER as a whole to achieve goals, is so shameful, it makes 2nd grade yard fights look tame.
If only I can hold up a mirror and say, "WAKE UP"!!!! Maybe the Republican party will 'wake up' and make a change - oops, I guess that would make them 'Democrat' heehee
Lest this be a humble lesson in every political arena because if you choose a party, it's what you believe in to the very end, booing your very own candidate is like abandonment. When you work together and implement ideas in with our current leader, that is being an American.
So, let us all move forward and build America as WE want it to be!
Aloha oe'
I'm saying it here & now.......my hula days will permanently take a back burner. I will only do what I know and not take it any further.
After many starts, I found that my love for Belly Dancing is far above Hula. I will not do any hula-specific or fusion shows....but that does not bar me from a special appearance. It's just I will not be performing hula on a regular basis.
I still love hula, but with the time commitment, and most importantly the commitment to the traditions of hula, I do not wish to alter it to my bellydance lifestyle. I strongly am opposed to fusing this beautiful art form. Hula is a culture, it's a way of life that is meant to be preserved.
Middle Eastern Dance is in the most part, progressive....it changes, you even see other cultural influences within the folk pieces....Bellydance can fit into any category. Hula cannot. I would do it regularly, but my daughter has lost interest in the art and will continue to concentrate in her aerial arts and violin.
I will sell off our pieces in hula that I know I will not need any longer. Before I post it on my superstarbeads tribe or Ebay them, I'll list them here if you or anyone you know has an interest in them....All the items listed here are in superior condition.

AMERICA - DON'T BE AFRAID...GET OUT THERE AND VOTE!!! 11-4-08!!!
Over the weekend, I got some very disturbing news....delivered on my doorstep and in a random emails. Then a freind I was chatting with told me about the article on an AOL page. It has confirmed what I had experienced. Election dirty tricks. It's not just for the presidential candidates, but the local levels and the assortment of propositions out there.
news.aol.com/elections/a...ricks/235328
Mind you, I rarely point out my political preferecne or party...or for the matter of who I would be affiliated with. Voting to some people is a personal matter.
I take the issues I believe in very seriously.
Now how on earth would anyone ASSUME I would vote for a certain candidate is beyond me. I know demographics are important in reaching people, but sometime I do not fit in what they think they are looking for.
These SNOT HEADS assume because I live in an apartment, am a single mom, and have a last name of SPANISH origin (which btw, is my former last name...). I DON'T EVEN SPEAK SPANISH!
I have been hit with a BARRAGE of mail saying that if I do not come with all my "papers" and fill out special new citizenship voting papers that I cannot vote??? or if I had per say a traffic violation, it nulls my right to vote in one upcomming election....or my favorite: "Just because he appeals to hard working people like you, do you think he has what you want in your interest?" (it was both in Spanish and English) What the flippin heck is that???
Some of it is obviously from other affiliated groups that use alot of creative verbage to confuse those to the voting system or to those who may not have voted at all.
One of those "endorsed" fliers I got by a local candidate, lost my vote from seeing what I read.
I KNOW who I'm going to vote for. Now to all these fools that use intimidation, confusion and hate to scare the voting public from making the right choices, BACK OFF AND LET ME VOTE!

Krispy Kreme giving out free donuts to voters on Election Day

Krispy Kreme wants your vote! Actually, the company doesn't care who you vote for as long as you vote. On November 4, locations around the country will be handing out free star-shaped donuts with red, white and blue sprinkles to anyone with an "I Voted" sticker (we're guessing other proof may be allowed, in case your polling place is out of stickers). The effort is non-partisan, so don't worry about one of the candidates forking over a wad of leftover campaign money in some kind of weird get-out-the-vote effort. This is just about Krispy Kreme trying to get some foot traffic of its own.
"We can't guarantee that your candidate of preference will win on November 4, but we can guarantee that your right to voice your choice will be rewarded with a patriotic doughnut that will remind you just how tasty freedom really is," said Krispy Kreme's Chef Ron Rupocinski in a press release. "Krispy Kreme encourages everyone to take part in this historical election and vote."
The test of a performer....
Ghostwalk event was a complete success! Why?
We arrived and performed without our director mama and some of us have survived the biggest dramas we could encounter in the day.....
My day started with a couple of text messages at 6/7ish in the morning with a crisis and my burned music not playing correctly. OK, problem solved, I tinkered around and found the problem...I'll just meet my friend and give her the good copy at lunch.
Kitty Uno had an appointment to make it to the vet - she was goin to get fixed. The instructions said to bring her in at 7:30, seemed like a rasonable amount of time....BUT when I got there all I saw was a line out the door and the kids were certainly going to be late. I argued with the lady at the counter to allow me to come back at 8:30 after I drop off the kids.
My day is only beginning.....post office, bank, organize stuff for tonight's performance, finish Avon orders..... I eventually gave the CD to my friend and she shared with my her series of drama events for the day. Oh wow, this isn't looking good.....
As I was leaving to pick up my kids from school, I get a call from my friend - the CD isn't working AGAIN! Oops! I think I did the same mistake I did earlier....now she didn't have anything to listen to and prepare for....I felt so bad.
After picking up the kids, we went to pick up the cat from the vet....then we found out she was not ready, she was still in 'recovery' Oh, I was so furious because they told me the day before she will be ready by 2:30. Again, lots of negoiation, arguments, yada, yada, yada....they finally released her.
....as if there was not enough drama, my car was on the blink again, barely making it to the 4:30 pickup and making me worry if I'll make it to Riverside by 5 to meet with the event coordinator.....and perform by 6:30.....I must have looked or sounded like a maniac....I'll take my kids' word, that I was calm.....but the car was just in it's mood of stalling here & there...I
I was lucky to find a decent parking space, I quickly put on my face and adjusted my makeup. When I got there, the event coordinator frantically asked if we have a CD player....the system the organization provided didn't include one. Fortunately, I enlisted one of my trusted dancers to write some things down and call another nearby dancer to bring her boom box. I know I only live a few exits away, but the way my car was acting, I may not have made it back. When we finally hooked up a CD player, the disc won't go in, nor can we figure how to work it. Luckily we had batteries and put it in another CD player that didn't have a cord hookup so our music can play. It took three of us to make it work, but we got the music playing.
You would think the results were disaterous....but we went on without a scratch....and our performance went well....as always, we had a great time.
Although Aziza was not there, I thank our director/teacher/mama for preparing us for such an event - beyond the stage, without her direction we wouldn't have been able to handle it.
Ghostwalk - see you there....
Every year in Riverside, the California Ballet Theatre has a fundraiser called the "Ghostwalk". It is a tour that takes you around the City of Riverside telling chilling ghost tales of the City's past. It's a Spooktacular event that benefits the arts in Riverside. Our troupe, Scimitar Dance Co. will perform this Friday, Oct. 24 from 6:30pm to 7:00pm at the corner of 7th and Main. at the staging area while the guests wait for their tours...info provided on the photo provided.
See you there!
It's been a long time.....
With Tribe being so unstable in the last couple months, I had been afraid to update, blog, or communicate on Tribe. Either I can't get on site, or I get booted, or there is serious holes missing in my tribe (due to inadequate updating) Whatever it is or was, it was so unfair.... I joined facebook, but it wasn't the same; had to put my blog on Blogger; I avoid MySpace at all costs; Ning....Oy vey! The more I thought about it, the more disjointed our beloved community became. {{knock on wood}} I am back on Tribe. But this time, I'm going to do my own backup - either on my computer, on FaceBook, or blogs on Blogger.....I think this crash on Tribe taught me some valuble lessons.Over this weekend, I did my second vending gig. I didn't dance, but just vend to pump out my Eye Kandy. The kids and I worked our table to the most. The event we went to was the MECDA IE "Nightmare before Halloween" filled with fantastic dancers and lots of vendors. I even got dressed up to look more "gothic". :) Imagine me Gothic, with a twist.....heheheheheeee
Richard passed me three times before he realized it was me - what gave him the clue were my kids running around me....it was fun passing people I knew who didn't recognize me in my gothic garb. More pictures from Richard's files comming soon when he uploads them.
Sales were soft, so were the audience. This economy has hurt everyone in every direction. Sometimes I feel I have started my business at the wrong time. All I can do now is take the punches and wait it out.
All was not lost, the kids had fun with all the free candy, costume contests, and the few sales we made.....it was a good day.
more pictures comming soon!
Oreo needs a HOME! HELP ME FIND ONE FOR HIM!!!
OK, my friend was getting rid of her dog because her complex won't take it....so I said my aunt is looking for a dog.Yesterday, when she dropped him off, my dad made the comment that he didn't confirm it with her and doesn't think she wants such a 'fuzzy old dog'
OMG! Just after she left too....
I cannot have this dog. I already have a cat. I have exceeded my pet limit here.
Oreo is a six year old dachshaund and poodle mix. He has an excellent temperment and loves kids. Friendly to all (people, dogs and cats), he is pretty mellow personality and is housebroken. He loves to walk and be your companion. Oreo obeys simple commands and prefers to take lots of naps. He has no isues at all.... Above all, he is NEUTRED!
I swear if I had a house I would keep him...he's the kind of gentle dog you want. Please help me find him a home, my folks do not want this dog either and have threatened to take him to the pound when I go to work.
