It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.
A young woman went to her mother and told her about her struggles in life and how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it and wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting for survival and struggling. It seemed that as soon as one problem was overcome, a new one arose.
Her mother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water and placed each on a high fire. Soon the pots came to the boil.
In the first pot the mother placed some carrots. I...

Sometimes life's a bit like this .....
about me
"Although I am a typical loner in daily life, my consciousness of belonging to the invisible community of those who strive for truth, beauty, and justice keeps me from feeling isolated."
-Albert Einstein
I like the above and it sort of describes me. I would rather be alone than in bad company….
I am still working out what I am here for (on Tribe, and in life). I do lots of volunteer work and love living in Melbourne. I am blessed with two handfuls (instead of “a” handful) of really good friends who are really good people.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Choose your friends by their character and your socks by their colour, choosing your socks by their character makes no sense, and choosing your friends by their colour is unthinkable.
testimonial n. A statement in support of a particular truth, fact, or claim. A written affirmation of another's character or worth; a personal.
bloke n. Chiefly British Slang. A fellow; a man. [Origin unknown.]
Indeed, I don't know the origin of this person called Bloke. I know where he is generally--but I don't know where he came from. Yes, his origin is still "unknown."
Alas, he does seem like a goodly fellow and I think others might agree with that statement.
I think, quite possibly, he might like ice cream, sex, maybe pizza (?), I'm guessing blue skies and bad music--and that's all the claims I can make about his personal character.
Worth. What can I say? What needs to be said? He's a good dude--but that's not really part of the definition of "Bloke" so I was really apprehensive of saying that.*
*Not that this, in any way, is representational of the nature of the actions of the Bloke in question.
May 21, 2008
I've never had to worker harder to get someone to befriend me. I sent offers, he kept declining..... thank you but no thanks. I persisted, I knew that one day he would succumb to my charms. Eventually he did (sucker) and now he can't get rid of me.
Anyhow, this isn't about me. It is about how good a bloke Bloke is. Pretty good, really. He makes me laugh, he makes me think, he is interested in people, he cares.
Bloke is pretty ace, and I am glad that eventually after sending thousands of friend requests, he said yes.
April 13, 2008
The Enigma
Blokey has the heart of a rose, the courage of a lion (even though he might not think so), a mouth like a steel trap closed tightly and rusted over. Because of this, he knows more about me than 98% of all people in my life. He is my greatest confidant, my bestest bud...
Inspite of all my Blokey knows of me, he is still my biggest fan....*looks at Blokey thoughtfully*
So if you wish a friend in Blokey, be always honest and upfront. He does not like games. He does however love Scotch.:) Heh,,,Cheers my forever Blokey!!!!!!! Luv ya.....:)
February 14, 2008
Today I wear your colors, to express my transcendence, passion, and exalted love.
Will you be my St. Valentine?
February 5, 2008
You know, I barely know this Bloke, but I LIKE him! Hopefully, he will not prove me naive or misguided by turning out to be an axe murderer or something of that ilk ; ). What I do know is that he's a smart one, and he's thoughtful and nice to the Tribe people that we both know (and, apparently, there are lots!). I really should join his Trivia Tribe, so I can see what all of the fuss is about <g>. Anyhow, he's aces, in my book, and I just KNOW that he's going to accept my friend request on of these days...or, he'll remain my one, unrequited Tribe love <siiiiiigh>, which is also it's own kind of special : ).
February 4, 2008
What can one say about Bloke? I’m certainly not qualified to leave him a testimonial, but since he left me such a nice one I’m going to give it a shot.
I don’t even recall where I first met Bloke on tribe (full of trivia as he is, he probably can pull that detail up rather quickly :) ) Gradually, though, I became aware of his engaging and charismatic presence, not to mention his excellent taste in beverages. This, I thought, is someone I want to know better – someone I want to be friends with - and so I sent the usual request.
He declined, of course.
I was devastated. Never before had someone declined a friend request from me – I don’t send a lot of them, as I have to feel some sort of connection first. Usually, such a declination would have me off in the corner sulking. But something – some elfin voice with a charming Aussie accent - told me to wait, that it would be worth it. And so I did…and it has, indeed, been so very worth it.
Bloke is quite simply the best sort of friend to have. A gentleman of the finest quality, but with a dirty and mischievous streak that is a delight to behold. A strong shoulder that I can always count to have my back, and a generous and loving heart that has made my life better for knowing him. He really is the best Bloke I know, and I am incredibly lucky and honored that he calls me a friend.
So…wait. He’s definitely worth it :)
January 31, 2008
Bloke is going to be in my bridal party.
He will be wearing a kilt in my family's tartan and a sporran.
I will not vouch for anything else he may or may not be wearing.
January 22, 2008
I love him
his quirky desires, his love for understanding the truth, the memories of revolutionary heroes. He is nothing but the very best, his family must be so pleased to have such a jewel and damn bloke at the same time. I can only imagine him in his bachelor house .. setting.. with the boys and sometimes beauty aussies.
did I mention I love him?
I really do
October 23, 2007
Bloke is a most wonderful friend. He is so very accepting of people's quirks. He is beautiful on the inside and full of life. He doesnt even mind being told to eat is vegies by the Mominator. :) He is always there for us. I respect him and am very lucky to be able to call him my friend. I will buy you some Beers when I come Bloke. Maybe even suprise you with a good scotch. :)
Hugs and much love BlokeDear.
October 10, 2007
You know, sometimes you're wandering along through life, minding your own business, and some bloke appears before you and makes a lot of noise, draws a lot of attention to himself, and generally causes an unnecessary fuss just to make a scene.
Yes, well. Some blokes may, but our bloke is a proper Bloke, and you won't have such difficulties with him. In fact, quite the opposite. Just try to convince him that you are a harmless little woman with no nefarious scheme. He'll smile politely. He'll be even more entertaining and kind publicly, but your every effort to woo him into friendship will be met with a gentle demur. "Oh, sure," you are likely to think. "I see how it is. Thinks he's too good for the likes of me, eh?"
No, no. If you are still thinking such things, you don't know him well enough yet, and that's why he puts you off. He's waiting to see if there's a friendship coming, and it's rather an important little wait, because once you're in, the technicolour effects begin to appear, and all these strange and lovely people start showing up all around you, and he gives you a cute little grin and says, "Welcome to Oz."
And the next thing you know, you're googling for trivia.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE WHO TO MARRY?
(written by kids)
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10
No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry.
God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kristen, age 10
WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10
HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?
Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8
WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A
DATE?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)
On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?
I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-- Craig, age 9
WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?
When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7
The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
- - Curt, age 7
The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-- Howard, age 8
IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?
It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)
HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?
There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?
-- Kelvin, age 8
And the #1 Favorite is........
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck
(Bloke Likes this one.... a lot)
Go placidly amide the noise and the haste and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth clearly and quietly, and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself to others you may become vain and bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons that yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your possessions in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is, many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself, especially do not feign affection, neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, graceful surrendering the things of youth. Nurture the strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings! Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness…. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and he stars; you have the right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations, in the noise confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful would! Be careful. Strive to be happy.
I have learned a great deal from your show and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the other specific laws and how to follow them.
1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9.
The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19-24. The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev.24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev.20:14)
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is
eternal and unchanging.
Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.
Jerry
For those few of you who may be unfamiliar with her,
Dr. Laura Schlessinger is an abrasive conservative radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently she said, as an observant Orthodox Jew, that homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned under any circumstance.
The above is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a U.S. resident and posted on the Internet.
