about me
Full-time housewife, part time student ( undergraduate........... I'm going to be a scientist when I grow up!!!)with fairly traditional outlook on life. I dream of a smallholding, and growing all my own produce! One of my (many ) ambitions is to plant an orchard! Not all apples, but an assortment of apples, pears, plums, cherries. greengage, damsons, sloes....the whole spectrum of tree fruit! I am an undergraduate with the Open University studying for a BSc(hons) degree course, in geosciences, (but not sure if my maths skill are up to par), In October of 2006, I shall have be a third of the way through, so still quite a way to go..... The Benfield Hazards Institute, British Antarctic Survey, NASA and the USGS.... You should start head hunting me in about 2010!!! I have recently resurrected my flute, and can now be heard happily playing along to my Dire Straits, Sky or Nigel Kennedy cds! I have also started the saxophone ( another life long ambition) with mixed success! Sounds dreadful, but it's good fun! Life revolves around my family ( namely my three gorgeous boys). I HATE ironing ( Is there anything else as mind numbingly dull?), and am scared of heights and big spiders( I can cope with the little ones). My dreams include cruising the Norwegian fjords, Seeing the Aurora Borealis ( or Australis.... I'm not fussy!), A trip down the Egptian Nile, Visiting Yellowstone National Park, Watching a volcano erupt, Feeling the Ground moving beneath my feet (just a small earthquake), To see the beauty of the Arctic or Antarctic..... Oh, and World Peace!

Well.... I had been warned about it! Everyone who's phoned or spoken to me in the past few weeks has asked if I have a knitting needle to hand for 'The itch'. Considering the leg has been encased in various casts for the last few weeks, I think I'm lucky to escaped for so long, but this week, it hit!

I'm relying on my trusty ruler to do the biz, and am slapping in moisturiser down my leg as far as my fingers will reach...... but I have small hands so that isn't far................... as I... read more

Had a visit to the fracture clinic on Tuesday. They took off the old back slab and I at last had a chance to see what had been done in theatre.... a nice wound down each side over the ankle. They took out the clips ( which was a singularly unpleasant and painful procedure) and was then assessed by the orthopaedic registrar who decided I would need another backslab as it's was still too swollen to put on the proper cast. "Sit with your foot up above you waist" he says indicating a level roughl... read more

I've been absent from here for a few days as I tumbled out of my patio door on Friday en route to hang out the washing and ended up in a heap on the ground after tripping up on the door step! I knew immidiately it was broken, not because it hurt... it didn't really, but because when I moved my leg.... gingerly to try and sit up, I could see the ankle was not attached to the rest of the leg by the way it sort of wobbled! At this point, I though help might be quite a good idea so yelled out a c... read more

One of the really great things about the OU is the kit they send to help with the courses you're studying. The excitement when this massive box was delivered way back in February, unpacking it, and discovering it was a mini lab......... polarising microscope, sets of slides, rock and fossil samples.

But now this particular part of the course is over, the exam sat, and today it all has to go back so someone else gets to use it next year. I'll be really sorry to see it go........ anyone got... read more

I'd love a rummage through this lot! (in Fossils and Natural stuff) Landslip is 'worst in 100 years'

A landslip described as "the worst for 100 years" has destroyed more than 400 metres (1,312 ft) of Dorset's World Heritage Jurassic Coast.

The earth movement blocked a stretch of beach between Lyme Regis an... read more
