SF Weekly "Best Aerobics Alternative (2008)"

So I was setting up a staged class for a video shoot for a local SF bay area TV station and I get an e-mail from the SF Weekly and they wanted to come do a shoot too but they were kind of vague about why they wanted to come. I thought, "Why not have them both come at the same time?" Today I found out that I won "Best Aerobics Alternative (2008)". :)

SF Weekly "Best of San Francisco 2008"
Best Aerobics Alternative (2008)
Bombshell Betty Dance Burlesquercise

Tired of the gym? Yawning at yoga? If your workout routine needs a little oomph and maybe even a dose of va-va-voom, get off the treadmill and slap on those pasties. Bombshell Betty is the eponymous shimmy-shaker who leads gaggles of women — from shy coeds to brassy grandmas — to hot bods and greater confidence, sans the sweat and ogling crowds. This ain't just boa-fluffy stripper aerobics. As titillating as the moves can be, Betty's bump 'n' grind warm-ups and rigorous cancan routines will add to soreness in muscle groups you never knew you had. And if you want to go beyond merely gyrating your way to better gams, you can put all that knowledge on performance and persona building to good use and join Bombshell Betty's all-inclusive Burlesqueteers, who are responsible for spreading their leader's implicit message that exercising and nourishing your inner pinup idol shouldn't be mutually exclusive.

Bombshell Betty's presents Odessa Lil @ Dr. Sketchy's (2-21)

I reposted this for Randy!

-------------------

Hello again all,

Bombshell Betty's and Dr. Sketchy's SF are VERY proud to bring you Odessa Lil for the next Dr. Sketchy's!

WHO THE HELL IS ODESSA LIL ANYWAY?!

Little is known about the one they call Odessa Lil, besides the now famous fragmented and possibly apocryphal tale involving a mule, a shoehorn, and the Fresno State Glee Club. Much has been said about her penchant for fast horse carts and slow men, but really only a few cultural relics referencing this small, noisy person remain.

Odessa Lil was born at a very early age in a one-horse village beyond the Pale. It used to be a two-horse village, until they ate one. Her father made a meager living selling meagers, but her mother made good dough working at the bakery. At the tender age of 14, she was run over by a funeral cart carrying the body of Kaiser Wilhelm. His spirit entered her body upon impact, making her capable of a great many things. She's been rumored show you the scar if you give her a dollar.

Odessa Lil will be performing her famous act from her 6 command performances in "Thrill Peddlers" as well as the "normal" Sketchy's fun and games!

Jan 7 or 8 FAN-DANCING BURLESQUERCISE SERIES 7-8:30

Made famous by Sally Rand with her 6 foot wide, luscious white ostrich feather fans swirling about her legs like a glorious ball gown, fan dancing is one of the most iconic, graceful and beautiful of the burlesque arts... and one of the most often requested subjects in burlesque classes! You will not want to miss this series!! Starts Jan 7 & 8

We are starting off 2008 with a bang here at Bomhshell Betty Dance by focusing on one of most iconic and often requested burlesque techniques of all for our next series: Fan Dancing!

The grace and beauty of the fan dance is undeniable, and fan dancing is a skill that every burlesquer should have in her repertoir. In these classes, we will start out with fan dancing basics like how to hold the fans, basic fan manipulation, dance steps using your fans, tips on how to tease and tantalize using the your fans, and techniques for using different kinds of fans. We will then move into more advanced fan work including floor work you can do using your fans and how to create solo and group fan choreography.

As always in Burlesquercise, we will also be emphasizing the classic burlesque bump and grind, confident and sensual stage presentation, and character development to create a well-rounded burlesque stage persona.

You won't want to miss the choreography for this series! We will be learning both sensual and humorous fan dancing choreography, including the much anticipated Burlesqueteer "monster" choreography to "Manamana"... too much fun!

*NOTE: While you are welcome to bring your own pair of fans to the class, practice fans will be provided. Don't have fans? Come on out to the Burlesque Fan Making Workshop and learn how to create your own!
