I received a marriage proposal in the Rachel Brice workshop today
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 4:21 PMToday, California's Supreme Court finally lifted the ban on same-sex marriage www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi It is only right that this happen here, where the precedent was set sixty years ago with the lifting of the ban on interracial marriage. What a beautiful blessing!
When San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said we could finally marry each other on Valentine's Day of 2004, we got up there as fast as we could to get hitched on 19 February. Here's my page of memories from that day members.cox.net/bonnie_mar...mepage.html
You can thank Mayor Newsom for his courageous stance with one click right here act.credoaction.com/campaign...r_newsom/
Exactly six months later, we received the heartbreaking news that our San Francisco marriage had been declared null and void and our marriage license fees were refunded. (I have never been so sad to deposit a check. Money coming into your life is not always the same as prosperity.)
I have been fighting and pushing as hard as I possibly can since then, along with thousands of other people who refuse to tolerate this discrimination against the queer community. One of the most important things you can possibly do to honor our upcoming union in California is to vote this November. People who hate us for loving each other have collected 1.1 million signatures in order to amend the California constitution to ban same-sex marriage again. We cannot just hope that won't happen, we have to get to the polls and vote our voices. Please urge everyone you know to vote in November, because there is much more than a presidency at stake. Voter apathy is absolutely unacceptable at this historic turning point.
Today is the very first day of my life that I have been granted access to the same rights that the majority of California's citizens have enjoyed in their marriages. Today I finally count as fully human to the beautiful state of California, even if not to this country yet. We have a long way to go yet to gain our federal rights, but this is an exquisite moment right here and now!
I am going to go completely bonkers until my wife gets up here to Sebastopol so I can kiss her and hold her and tell her I do! I do! a zillion times I do!
Should we get married on the fifteenth anniversary of our first date in June (that would be the day this ruling takes effect)? Should we get married the week of Gay Pride? Should we get married on the full moon in August and let our trip to Costa Rica be our honeymoon? Oh my Goddess, we have a wedding to plan!

CONGRATULATIONS!!
I'm so glad you hear you have won this huge battle.
Wherever and whenever you decide to get married I wish you all the best! Is the vote just for Californians? If not, I'll make sure to cast my vote in favor of this decision. |

You two....of all people...who touch lives and inspire, deserve happiness!! Just having the sort of undeniable and unconditional love that you have with each other is enough, but being able to express it in a union like marriage makes it all the more wonderful!! |

My vote will reflect our voice!!! I looked up the full moon in August (Saturday the 16th, moon in Aquarius) in my We'Moon calandar, and the quote on the page said "Our single purpose Is to Magnify that Light We share between us." by Mimi Foyle, 2005 |

I am so amazingly happy for you, and I am so glad the supreme court reversed the decision. I'm sure theirs going to be a fight to amend the constitution, but I don't see the opposition to this winning. When I landed from South Carolina yesterday and heard the court's decision, I was very happy.
You guys want a photographer ... ? :) |

In all my years, I have not witnessed such love, the energy was so profound that my tears welded up and just started flowing. It had taken much restraint from going up there and hugging you both =D
Thank you so much for sharing your love and such a sacred moment with us. That moment will remain with me for the rest of my time. Much love and blessings. |

Congrats :-) got to see the proposal on stage but was unable to track you down in the crowds. My friend Chanda had to have her wedding in Canada for it to be legal which made it impossible for most of her friends and family in California to be there. Wish you many more years of happiness and joy.

There is still a war going on but I am so glad the battle has been won. It broke my heart as well when the marriages in San Francisco were null and void. It has been a hard long fight and having to constantly defend your love and exsistence is a tragic thing to go through. I was there during Tribal Fest when she proposed to you on stage and one of the things about that night that stood out more than anything for me was the fact Laura said she will continue to propose to you until it is final. 30 days is a long way away and I am praying that this is it and they finally leave you alone.
I would very much like to come to the wedding or at the very least the reception. |

I cried out in victory in our hotel's bkfst room when I saw it on the news. I was happy b/c love is love. I was happy for my sis who while not in love currently, could now feasibly have the same rights I get. I had no idea stoopit Laura would make me cry my eys out at TF with her proposal. Then I read this blog and also learned that you had been married once then had it taken away.
With all this hard work this love will endure eternity! Blessings you silly, sweet girls. |
