about me
Among other things, I am a writer, an artist, a gardener and (in my alleged free time) a renaissance player and Guildmaster of the Hearth of Saint Brigid, a troupe of Ren Faire actors portraying the denizens of a (lowland) Scots village of the 16th century.

Musings Mired in My Muddled Mind...

I was paging through the comics online this morning and realized just how much I miss Calvin & Hobbes. The insightful look inside the inner world of a little boy and his only (stuffed) friend was like watching little snippets of my inner world play out each morning in the newspaper. A little boy who couldn't quite get his reality to sync with the world around him, who sometimes got lost inside his own head and had trouble finding his way out again...

Sigh.

I put my blog into a new template but can't decide if pretty isn't necessarily better?

Garb for Guys returns with lots of photos of the masks I made recently for the Lost Girls (pictured above), and other stuff. I'll be posting updates more often for the foreseeable future if anyone is looking for a discussion of 16th century clothing construction (mostly male)...

Stories Saluting Scott's Silliness

December 11, 2007
How do you write something for a writer? First of all, no spelling errors. That's already going to be a tough one. Then, there's the other grammatical errors that could pop up. What if I use the wrong words? What if I switch tenses? What if I pluralize a singular? What if I mess up capitalization!? Calm, calm. We're all adults, not louts, so let's give this a proper go.

Scott is uneek. he Likez 2 mayck peepole smyl. i are glad two now heem. He has perty wiifez. Yay 4 sCot.

Dang.

Alas, I must admire Scott from afar, separated by space, time, and age, but his zeal is so infectious!

And he's the master of the mixed media. Can not only post a mean blog, but handcraft as bitchin' wheelbarrow thingie.

A true Renaissance Man, and master of both the modern and archaic. You've just gotta love that! And he gardens.....

I'm convinced Scott knows everything. Well, maybe not *everything,* but pretty damn close to it! He's my go-to person when I have a random question that no one else can answer. He can manage to explain anything to my befuddled mind, in a manner that I not only understand but I can later remember.

Scott will be one of the first I show my novel to, that I check a garb or history question with, and the person I will use as a lifeline if I'm ever on a game show. He can be both funny and serious when appropriate, and a better Peasant guildmaster I can't imagine. Not to mention he can do a mean gorilla impression!

I'm sad that I won't be playing within the same guild as him next year, but I know that we'll play together no matter what guild we belong to. As a new noble girl, I quake slightly at what Calabash might say; but as an actor I trust him to never let me fall flat on my ass.

I heart you, Scott! <3

Ha! I have figured out how to leave a testimonial for Scott! PHEAR! Scott is one of the most intelligent people I know, and even more importantly, he revels in learning and teaching. Always trying to raise the standards of his Guild, he brought another consistantly fabulous show to WRFF this year, from the set and the costumes to the MUCH improved quality of acting and improv that his Guild members displayed. And not only that, Scott is a dear and good person, one of the last truly noble men around. :) Sitting and watching the picnic show with him was a delight this year, as I love having his opinions and suggestions, and it just makes me so much happier to know I have someone I can depend on to understand how all of this is supposed to be, and to make it happen so perfectly. Scott is never allowed to quit. Never! Never! Scott is the man, and I'm bloody lucky I conned him into being a Guild Master for me.

Scott is one of those people that can be absolutely hilarious and carefree at times, and serious and smart when the occasion calls. And he never seems to get the two confused. I respect him more than I can say, and feel truly blessed that he always looks out for me and puts up with my silliness. :) I've never forget him walking up to someone, sticking his finger in their face, and saying "Did you bite my fifteen year old?"
