I call this guy "Bryan Downtown" because at first I didn't have his last name, and needed to differentiate him from all the other Bryans in my cell phone, heheh. Bryan, now that I know you well, I can say with certainty that you are a very good man, and I'm honored to be your friend, and grateful that you're a part of my life.
Bryan, you are the guy that people can go to when they need a sharp mind and a deep heart. I see that you are driven by a sense of wonder and adventure that is rarely witnessed, and your patience and kindness have enriched the lives of so many. I believe in and support you. In short, I'm in awe of you, and hope to continue sharing and enjoying with you. I love you so much, and will be your friend for as long as you'll have me.

Brian is a charming soul with a taste for the fantastic (captain!) and I am so grateful for every single time I've hung out, hooped out, movied out, dined out and wined out at his place. He is gracious, patient, generous, genuine, and an absolute sweetheart. And I'm one of the bastards who broke his glass last time!! (Last time I try to help clean while drunk!)
Thank you Brian. You rule or something. ;)

Tribe peeps, I'm finally planning my get-out-of-town-for-the-summer project: I'm driving to Minnesota and Michigan for a wedding and to see friends and family. Can I get your suggestions on things, people, and craziness to see and do?
Ideas I've received so far include:
Arcana -- drive-by mooning or just cocktails, in Madison, WI
Mall of America shooting spree in Minneapolis
Trips to places like Boundary Waters, Isle Royale, and others
Any events that I must not miss? Places? Buel...

Here it is, at long last. After days of sitting in front of the computer, I have finally completed all of the artwork and programming for my first-ever animated film, and it has gone live:

It's a 1 1/2-minute-long how-to piece about buying environmentally friendly things for your home. Enjoy!
On this same page, near the bottom under "more from this user," you'll see links to some of my other videos on that site. R...

Peeps, I'm going to produce a creative project about people's experiences at Burning Man, and I'd like to ask for your help. The project itself will be a set of *true* stories about experiences and the steps that get us there; the completed book will be my playa gift in 2009 or 2010.
So: would you please email me descriptions of two or three of your particularly memorable experiences at the burn? I'm particularly interested in hearing about the physical description of what happened, how ...

Every now and then, my filmmaking peeps need to hire various creative services (or other services, for that matter) on their projects. Sometimes I know just who I can suggest, but much of the time it's hard to keep my friends' professions straight.
If you are looking for freelance work doing ANYTHING, creative or not, please message me with the details. Obviously, if you have a concise website that explains your qualifications, has samples or a reel on it, and gives your rates and contac...

Bess learns the "reckless abandon" move.
about me
Meet me. Drink me in.
* * * *
I grew up in mainstream conservative suburbia outside Detroit. Music first got me to learn about the world of ideas that lies outside of our textbooks; later, travel introduced me to the idea of "normal" in a culture, and film and Burning Man have taught me to look at everything as a visual presentation. I suppose it was only in the last five years that I gave myself permission to live life on my own terms. Right now, my life is about laughing as much as I can; letting myself explore the world of food, dance, art, and other sensual pleasures; and getting my creative ideas out and made real, especially films and other visual art.

Everything that matters in the world is about ideas. The rest is just filler.
