snow day

A few days ago this Chicago born girl experienced the magic of a world without snow plows. Picture this: a serenely quiet cottony morning, a fire burning, snow drifting by the window, a rapid bundling of clothes to weather the elements, free tastes and dumpster pillaging (they throw out so much good food!) a chance encounter with a wonderful grandma who loaded us down with tea, cookies and a dose of wisdom, a wayward shopping cart found en route to be our slow and steady stead for the walk home. Passing us by were the occasional cross country skier, child whispering of "Dead Man's" a know sledding hot spot-and other adventurers slipping us glances of glee and wonderment. After a jaunt to the land run by Micah the "co-ordinator of fun" where a boogie board made him the coolest kid on the block (our cardboard just didn't cut it-thrifty as we were...a dose of hot toddies in exchange for a run with the only sled among us and a few bone crunching trips down the hill and over the daring snow jump we chanced a blue grass concert and ended up with free beers at a local music spot where we were the only brave souls that made it to the show. Home by 1am, our glass slippers aside and the carriage back into a pumpkin our snow angels twirled and blanketed us with a cozy winter embrace.

Reassimilation has never been a strong point. How do you go from one place to another negotiating space, time, place and awareness without disconnecting? Can you move like a spider spinning a web, putting thread down at different spots but weaving one beautiful design or does it become easier to detach the last thread, jumping from branch to branch only feeling the sensation of landing and springing forward?

the earth seems a bit unsteady. To have faith to ride the waves-what an art form. Trust in the elaborate connections and rightness of what will come regardless if it is what you think you need. I would love to grasp a little bit of ground to put a foot on.

Life is gifting a lapful of treasures these days. How glad I am to be in the arms of the Portland pine trees and to feel the bike wind on my cheeks stained with blackberry juice. Where can we go from here but up? Up into the cloudy atmosphere to dance with the imaginations of our ancestors and children.

It is amazing when we become connected to people as our realites are so different from each other. I will attend the wedding of the friend I have had the longest in my life, 25 years. We are so different yet bonded by time and common experiences, love and commitment. We are not completely similar creatures but we know each other so well that we can accept our dissimilarites as a part of the whole that is our togetherness. If all relationships were so accepting would divorces happen? would families become estranged? To what extent can you accept another in relation to your own belief system? Can you really love and accept a person whose life path goes in a completely different and opposing direction as your own? Isn't it interesting to stretch the limitations of your mind, your judgements and your control...

It's great when you find what you want and need. Letting yourself catch up with those realizations might be the tricky part. Then there are the things that you can't control-time, chance, fate...
One day at a time, not thinking too much, being in each moment fully-those are my challenges these days
