Tiny and Beautiful

This was a chunk that fell off Shrek's back. Actually its some kind of fungus or lichen that was growing on a tree near Peter and Carrie's old house where Seconds on End used to rehearse. I've seen this kind before in the forest near Castle Rock. I wonder what is the common name?

This was one of the exotic insects at the place near my home in SF, where Jae Hendrickson used to work. They took the bugs out to schools to let kids play with them. This one has quite a personality!

I almost squished this young California Golden Newt while I was hiking the Skyline-to-the-Sea trail in Big Basin. I am glad I was watching my step!

I am pretty sure that these are wild psilocybe cubensis mushrooms growing on horse poop. This was the first time I ever saw them alive and in the wild. I was delighted by their beauty, but I did not sample them. I found these off-trail in the foothills of Mount Montara.

I found these at Dean's place last year, growing in compost by the barn.

Went for a hike in Big Basin with Stacey and found this along the trail. It reminds me of a sheep dog.

Algae growing in a brook, with fibers stretched out over bubbles trapped underneath. The sun was bright at a low wintertime angle.
