My LJ blog

I made my next goal, and then a few. I am now down to 186!!! I broke the 190 level... woohooo!!!

Next goal is 179. I hope it doesn't take as long to get to as these last 10 pounds took.

Edit: I passed the Halfway Point!!! 44 pounds down (from starting of 230), 38 pounds to go.

From my highest weight of 265, that is 79 pounds down, 38 to go. Wow!!!!

I am slowly working on uploading my photos to Photobucket, so I can share them with people. Just click on the images to view the whole photo album thumbnails.

Here are some from Collegium Caidis this fall. I didn't take but a few, but here they are.

I've added the photos of my fore sleeves of bling to my Tudor Kirtle & Gown album.

More to come later. My mind is shutting down, and my throat is getting sore. I think I am finally coming down with what Cam had. I am taking zinc drops which I hope will help.

From [info]sarahbellem (and some others who have followed her original meme)...

Costumers all tend to have a specific era or genre that appeals to us aesthetically, which is fine, but sometimes we get too focused and fail to appreciate other eras or genres that might suit our body type, our facial features, or even just challenge us to think outside the box a little bit. So, I'm opening the floor for suggestions: Give me one costume you'd want me to wear, and why. Picture links appreciated. :)

And then spread this meme like SARS and I'll try to do the same for you!

(just know that my understanding of other costuming periods are limiting, so my suggestions in return might be limited).

It is OUT, and I bought IT!!! (thank you Costco!)

A long time ago, when cable tv was newish, and many homes, including my own, did not have cable (not even in my city), I went to a friend's home who had cable and would watch IT as often as I could, which wasn't nearly as often as I wanted.

And then time passed, DVDs became popular, and those in charge released it on DVD some years ago... outside of the US {bastards!!}

And now, finally, some 24 years since it first came out... I can finally watch all the first two seasons of...

Robin Of Sherwood!!!!!

(amazon.com has it here. And Set 2 is also available, with Jason Connery.

Michael Praed is now all mine ... mwahahahahaha!!!! (but I may share with my own Robin.)

Micheal Praed was one of those teenage crushes I had, and the first crush with a brunet. And he only came off the pedastal when I watched a more recent series where he played Phineous Fogg in a series (forgotten its name) where he just didn't have the charm, or long locks, that first drew me.

So, soon I will get to watch this, and remember just how campy the whole series could be. I just have to be good, and finish cleaning up the various rooms first. But I know how I will be spending Sunday night!!!!

So, the frock coat is now mostly done, and gone for now.

I say mostly done, as I didn't have time to do all of the buttonholes, actually, none of the buttonholes, as my son ended up sick that final day, so I had to tend to him, and all I had time for was to finish up the last of the 30+/- buttons (which was about half done the night before).

But here's a link to a few of the photos of the dark red velveteen 1760s frock coat, as seen on a hanger. It looks better on the man. I am supposed to get photos of my client wearing the thing in full larp gettup (the new Changeling venue I was told). I will also get the coat back so I can finish those buttonholes so he can wear this in his local venue. I will then take better photos on my good camera.

I also should redo the collar, as I didn't know that the whole collar seams should have been 3/8", not the standard 5/8", so the interlining was shifting as I was brushing the coat down. Best to check fit before trimming things, or to just redo the darned collar when I had the time. It might have saved me some time, too. Ah, well. Things I learned.

Re: How white is white? (in Elizabethan Clothing) Noel, for superfine linens, you will have to look at UK fabric sites, or other European places. Even then, it will be hard to find. Re: Cuff Buttons? (in Elizabethan Clothing) Something I just read a day or two ago, while I was on the train traveling, was that pearls (presumably real ones) were used for buttons on smocks during the "middle ages". No specific time period or surviving garment was mentioned for this, but t... read more

My Blog

Besides being sick lately with a head cold, I have a new yet simple early 16th century English hood project I have to work out. I have a Henrician faire event in a couple of weeks, and need a hood appropriate for the time, 1509, King Henry's marriage to Katherine of Aragon, and their coronation. Our group is acting as support for court, so it doesn't have to be fancy. But the main group has gone for the Anne of Brittany style of hood, which is seemingly easier to make, and nicer on the face t... read more

Well, I haven't posted a lot on my progress blog here, but I am posting the final result.

I finally have photos of the 1500 working women's kirtle that I've been busy finishing up. I uploaded several pics to my Photobucket site: s56.photobucket.com/albums/g...WWKirtle/ . They include several shots of interior seams, and progress shots. My dress diary is on LJ: sstormwatch.livejournal.com/tag/...irtle . That's where the bulk of my blogging is done.

{x-posted from my LJ}

I held off on doing any hand sewing since Baronial Anniversary, as I have been more inclined to clean my bed and bathroom, then I was in sitting down to relax. This was a mistake, as my mood soured over the days that I worked through some cleaning. I am not used to having both kids all day long, and my son is a big extrovert.

Today, after some work covering a table into an ottoman, I decided to relax and pull out my hand sewing again, and ripped out the bad stitchi... read more

Inspired by Catarina's linen working outfit, as seen in the Realm of Venus web site showcase for this month ("realmofvenus.renaissanceitaly.net/y...), I finally figured out what sort of simple garb I want to make for my new camping outfit. OK, I am a silly goose for starting this late, but what the hey. I may even finish it on time (but I am not holding my breath). I have about 10 days to do it, if I decide to go whole hog to complet... read more

Just wanted to share photos of Kearney Park Renaissance Faire (set in 1542 with Henry VIII and Catherine Parr), if anyone wants to take a look.

Also, St. Henry's has some photos up of the event as well.
