Who I am
Thu, November 6, 2008 - 8:45 AMI am as exotic smoke, full of swirling colour and enticing fragrance, dangerous yet alluring, there is warmth and safety in the veil of my depths, never the same look or feel twice, yet always the same basic nature.
Sometimes the merest whisper in the air, at times I can suffocate you.
I am in you hair, your clothes, you smell me on your skin, you know the second I enter a room and my essence lingers amongst crowds long after I leave.
I cannot be, should not be bottled, restrained or contained. The vessel will always shatter as smoke has but one duty, to be free to climb to the heavens.
I breathe the wind, glide the air, and save my wings, for I never use them to carry me, but to lift others.
My nature not Icarus or Hercules, but Mars and Hermes. I am the warrior and the lover, the poet and the killer.
I will fight for those who cannot fight for themselves, to the point of death and beyond. Nietzsche said: "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And when you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you".
In our society being alone is akin to having leprosy. I am often alone by choice, I am very, very seldom lonely. People do not understand the difference and they build empires on empty friendship counts, and fan clubs, and profile view numbers because it makes them believe they are. Not necessarily that they are something, just that they are.
This, is a sad, sad, thing, to lack so significantly internally, that you need to validate yourself externally.
The size of your house(s), the thickness of wallet, the make and model of your car, the amount of time you spend overseas a year, your humdinger of a CV, your pedigree, your family connections - I don't care, so fickle, so worthless, so laughable.
Who are you? What is left when all of your "accessories" are taken away?
Can you engage my mind? Can you change my reality without reaching for your credit card or the keys to your yacht? Can you engage my mind?
I don't suffer fools gladly.
I know who I am, what I need and what I want.
I believe it exists.
