Closed Sundays
Sun, November 5, 2006 - 9:59 PMin order to focus on the future sustainability of the delta, we needed some relief from our nineteen hours-a-day, seven days-a-week work load. and for a number of reasons, sunday was the natural day to take off.
you see, brunch at the delta of venus on sundays is a whole different beast than the other six days. large groups and particularly particular customers slow down the flow of ordering and eating for the regular customers, and nobody (in my opinion) is being served well. the visiting crowd thinks we are a half-assed restaurant, and the regulars are pissed that they can't enjoy their delta like they like it. there's more business, sure, but my customer is not getting their money's worth, and that's not what i'm about, running a half-assed business where you don't get your money's worth. and for the delta staff, it's twice as hard, but not twice as lucrative finacially (i.e., tips suck when service is slow).
so, rather than continue to serve people badly while having no time in my life to improve my business, i've made one simple change, to close sundays, and have literally gained the edge to carve the future of the delta of venus. closing sundays was actually a no-brainer, and i haven't yet regretted it, honestly.
of course, the down side is that the sunday-only customer now has his or her access to the delta of venus completely shut off. it is a bad feeling for me to do this, and some of our favorite customers, including the beloved hart family, will feel, well, heart-broken. but as a consolation, i believe that sunday brunch at the delta of venus will rise again, and be even better than before...

Who needs sundays anyhow?
...and on the seventh day God rested and behold, it was good.

I need Delta Sundays!
I am not going to whine and tell you the sad tale of my soccer mom Saturdays and the pleasure of Sundays at Delta with friends...really, I'm not...because I hear hope and optimism in your last words.I know that Sundays sometimes get to be too much, and we can live through a void of them here and there, just leave us with hope of future Sundays bathing in the sun under the tree with happy people everywhere. Let me here state to those people, GIVE UP THE TIPS, pay for the experience of Sundays at Delta, these people are working their butts off and they are living in the weeds for us!! Thank you for all you do Delta, and thankfully, I get to be with you other days of the week...but there's nothing like Sundays. :-]
