First stop, a drum workshop and dancing hosted by Shira. The workshop was a nice intro to the doumbek starting with basic 'dum and tek'. Raquy led us through many patterns with this before adding the 'ka'. We played around with a few specific rythyms and Raquy played the kemenche while we accompanied her on our drums. The June Hafla was so much fun! I danced to Salaam's Bir Demet Yasemin (a bouquet of Jasmine). It's a Turkish song of love and longing. I improvised and it actually felt pretty good. There were a few moments of 'what next?', but overall, it went well. I look forward to seeing the video.

June was a busy month! I went to New York for the first time. I loved it! I attended classes at the Matrix Global Academy. Classes were great. Had a few extra days for fun and sightseeing.

Our hotel was only 2 blocks from Times Square. We walked through a lot of Central Park.
