about me
I found the SCA in 2004 by way of a Ren Faire experience. My interest in fencing led me to develop a late period Spanish persona. However, after going to a few camping events and joining in the bardic circles, I am beginning to develop an alter ego. Spanish swordsman by day, Middle Eastern musician by night.
I am currently a complete beginner who can mimic basic rhythms and serve as a good "heartbeat" drummer alongside a more experienced lead drummer. My current drumming goal is to memorize what those basic rhythms actually are (baladi, etc.) and how to play them correctly. I also want to learn how to properly "fill" rhythms, improvise, and solo. I want to become proficient enough that I can someday serve as the lead drummer to a new crop of beginners. I believe the beautiful and talented dancers around our campfires deserve more than one long and nauseatingly unchanging drone of imprecise "drunken drumming", which is what they all too often get.
