In Liverpool - Suzanne Vega (introduced to me by Stina :-))

In Liverpool
On Sunday
No traffic
On the avenue
The light is pale and thin
Like you
No sound, down
In this part of town
Except for the boy in the belfry
He's crazy, he's throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
Like a hunchback in heaven
He's ringing the bells in the church
For the last half an hour
He sounds like he's missing something
Or someone that he knows he can't
Have now and if he isn't
I certainly am

Homesick for a clock
That told the same time
sometimes you made no sense to me
if you lie on the ground
in somebody's arms
you'll probably swallow some of their history

And the boy in the belfry
He's crazy, he's throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
Like a hunchback in heaven
He's ringing the bells in the church
For the last half an hour
He sounds like he's missing something
Or someone that he knows he can't
Have now and if he isn't
I certainly am

I'll be the girl who sings for my supper
You'll be the monk whose forehead is high
He'll be the man who's already working
Spreading a memory all through the sky

In Liverpool
On Sunday
No reason to even remember you now

Except for the boy in the belfry
He's crazy, he's throwing himself
Down from the top of the tower
Like a hunchback in heaven
He's ringing the bells in the church
For the last half an hour
He sounds like he's missing something
Or someone that he knows he can't
Have now and if he isn't
I certainly am

This wonderful poem that I read for the first time on Whit's page has been hitting home, so thank you Whit for exposing me to such a beautiful piece of writing that I may never have seen otherwise. Just in case anyone hasn't read it, I'm gonna post it too :-)

Learning to love differently is hard,
love with the hands wide open, love
with the doors banging on their hinges;
the cupboard unlocked, the wind
roaring and whimpering in the rooms
rustling the sheets and snapping the blinds
that thwack like rubber bands
in an open palm.

It hurts to love wide open
stretching the muscles that feel
as if they are made of wet plaster,
then of blunt knives, then
of sharp knives.

It hurts to thwart the reflexes
of grab, of clutch; to love and let
go again and again. It pesters to remember
the lover who is not in bed,
to hold back what is owed to the work
that gutters like a candle in a cave
without air, to love consciously,
conscientiusly, concretely, constructively.

I can't do it, you say it's killing
me, but you thrive, you glow
on the street like a neon raspberry,
You float and sail, a helium balloon
bright bachelor's button blue and bobbing
on the cold and hot winds of our breath,
as we make and unmake in passionate
diastole and systole the rhythm
of our unbound bonding, to have
and not hold, to love
with minimized malice, hunger
and anger moment by moment balanced.

I just moved here in September to take a Scenic Art job, but I also absolutely CRAVE Singing and performance of any kind... not sure I ever really gather up the balls to do it more than in karaoke-esque settings... hm... I can be a good time, but I rarely know how to "sum myself up"... so if you like to laugh or you're a fellow performer or an artist or someone who likes to have intelligent conversation, then I want to meet you!

Yeahhhh I had an accident at work the other night. I fell from 20ft. in the air. I'm still here and I'm fine. Haven't gotten a chance to take sexy shots of the bruises yet, unfortunately. For those of you still interested, here's the Story:

So Wednesday night I was painting some Good Ol' Scenery at the Good Ol' Lesher Center for the Performing Arts in Walnut Creek. I could have been there for about four hours and have painted all that needed to be touched up, ON THE GROUND (and safely)- bu... read more

Hokay, so, hurr's de deal:

I had a lead on an A-mazing house with Miss Stephanie and company, but Em decided not to go to Boston for School come January. So now I'm STILL looking for a place to live in January, even though I sort of told those of you who were trying to help that I was probably taken care of. Anywho, just wanted to reiterate my need now that I've heard the recent change of plans :-) Thanks in advance, everyone, for being tolerant of my fickle life stuff and helpful wheneve... read more

So right before I entered the last two weeks of Massively Intense Painting for the Mousetrap, over in Walnut Creek and Pleasant Hill, I got my California Learner's Permit. Woo hoo! Now, the difference, apparently, is that I only have a year to get my license before this thing expires, as opposed to New York where it can sit for like 5 years without anything bad happening (yes, it's embarassing that I know this from experience) so I'm going to reopen my questions of "Where should I take my roa... read more

So it hasnt' happened yet. Most of you know this, but just in case you didn't. I do not have my driver's license. Not to say that back in New York I didn't have a ton of driving practice in (the quieter parts of) Long Island. But as for a license, I think it's about time I worked on getting one. Additionally, many of you probably heard me talking about this wonderful apprenticeship program that I was going to try to get into for the Scenic Artists' Union. If I had a shot, (as in 5 people ever... read more

Jason Webley! ( events » live music ) Reposted for Jason Webley:

Hello world,
For some reason this tour has been very slow. It is pretty disheartening. I am out with the most amazing musicians I know, with what I think is the best album I've ever done, but nobody is coming out to... read more
