-Bones and a bit of meat from 1/2 a roasted Chinese duck and any left over sauces + skin
-1 star anise
-5 peppercorns
-2 cups cooked rice
-1” ginger cruched
-1 to 2 L water as needed
-salt to taste

Blueberry cake (6 portions)
In a 9x12” pan, mix 6-8 cups frozen blueberries with 1-11/2 cups brown sugar and the grated zest of 1/2 a lemon.
In a bowl, combine 2 cups bisquick with 3 Tbsp melted butter and two heaping tbsp of brown sugar. Add enough cold milk to make a wet but stiff dough. You can add some lemon zest as well.
Drop the dough by heaping tablespoon onto the blueberries then bake at 350 until the top is golden, 20 mins to half and hour.
Let cool and serve with ice cream.

what a fabulously successful day, I managed to fix the clothes dryer, drop off homemade dumpling to 4 friends, clean my room (as always almost completely), do four loads of laundry (now that the dryer is fixed), eat 6 honking big oysters from nova scotia with lime and chili oil, and have a nice glass of sauvignon.. and after sympathising with my roomate for her congested state, well, I just got all stuffed up myself. As much as I hate winter at least there is no pollen.
