What's in a name

My playa name is Plan B--and we all need one, or two.
In the rafting and sea kayaking communities I'm known as JavaJerry. I love my coffee.
At ETC I was also the Van Czar and the Toadmaster--based on the river vehicles I drove and wrenched on. The Toad was the green 1976 Chevy Suburban. Rest In Peace old gal.

about me
I have an insatiable curiosity about everything, I just wish I could process all that information.

Sure, I like bicycling, whitewater, kayaking, good food, travel, and coffee, but there's nothing better than snuggling up with the right woman as soft music plays in the background.

The Down Side

I have one obvious disability, and a few hidden ones, but I cope and adapt the best I can.
I sometimes struggle to put my words together, especially when I'm stressed, so I'm much more of a doer than a talker.
Sometimes I just need to hide.
I am slowing with age.
But I'm in charge of my mind and body, so please don't patronize me.
I try to do the best I can with what I have.

My Blog

The Burning Man Desert Arts Preview was held at Burning Man HQ in San
Francisco with visual presentations by about a dozen artists of their funded
art projects for the playa.

The event lasted about four hours beginning with a 30 minute reception catered
with numerous finger foods and beverages and pausing with a 20 minute
intermission for more bar visits, snacking, and socializing.

I decided to pass on the alcohol and grabbed a regular Coca Cola before
taking my seat. It was... read more

Yesterday I crossed paths with an old friend that I haven't seen in years.

I remembered that we were in some college classes together back in Buffalo.
I remembered his wife Diane.
I remembered sleeping on his sofa one night because I was too tipsy to drive home
after sharing a few graduation pitchers at the pub.
I remembered that we both moved to Seattle to work for Boeing.
I remembered that we both came to Lockheed after a big Boeing layoff.
But I couldn't recall his name...unt... read more

I have a terrible time listening to lectures or presentations and taking
"copious notes" at the same time. Important points are present while I'm
listening, but then quickly fade from my memory.

Creative ideas that bubble up during my day can quickly escape me while I
search for a pencil and notepad.

Names, short lists, or trivial tidbits of information disappear in spite of
how determined I am to remember them until I get to my computer..

So I bought an Olympus VN-4100PC ... read more

It was very early on Sunday.

I was warm and cozy in my cocoon of blankets, waking with the first hint of dawn. Barely opening my right eye
I could sense that the room was no longer in total blackness. I teetered in that delicate balance
between sleep and alertness.

I pondered what I had planned for the morning. Did I really want to get up so early... on a Sunday morning!

What time was it? Dare I turn over to look at the clock.

I had already scuttled my plans to be on th... read more

I brought home a drink refill from Taco Bell (yeah, I go there a lot) about noon time and set it down on an outdoor benchtop while I went inside to check my email for a few minutes. I went back out after about an hour and saw the drink. I reached for it and the cup was very hot. I decided to be adventurous. I took a sip through the straw.
Hmmm, not bad. Hot, but pretty tasty.
Hot, flat, Cherry Pepsi would make a good winter warm up drink. It's like a highly sweetened cherry tea.
