Dysfunctional (blog entry) This is a curious place as it turns out. A good portion of the time I can't log in. Of late it has greeted me with a page of computer-speak instead of my page. I can see that there has been little or no activity in my groups if I can get to them, ... read more

Re: Do parrots yawn? (in Owned By Parrots) Every parrot I've ever had has yawned on his own time.

Tinker, my bare-eyed, will stretch when I stretch. If we are just rousing from a nap in the recliner I often lock my hands behind my neck and stretch my neck up and back, and Tinker will t... read more

Re: what does your bird smell like? (in Owned By Parrots) "He" started out as Harpo, because I had read somewhere that these guys weren't great talkers. So I began saying Beep-beep to him. Not long after he began saying "Beep-beep", which led to him being renamed "Beeper". He took over my antique gas sto... read more

Re: Sweatlodge Deaths (in Bio-regional Animism) Haley,
I totally agree with you about phones. I need blocks of time to be able to connect with those I am working with who have provided materials - trees, wild grapes, and other plant people usually, without the threat of interruption. We have n... read more

My Blog

This is a curious place as it turns out. A good portion of the time I can't log in. Of late it has greeted me with a page of computer-speak instead of my page. I can see that there has been little or no activity in my groups if I can get to them, and then I sort of forget about the whole thing, as getting aggrevated accomplishes nothing. Then I think, I'll check back and see if the site works, and find things working and there have been some posts during my absence. I may leave some comments,... read more

I finished the Whirlwind mask replica and it now resides at the Art Park back home, which is part of a larger movement by a group of people who have stayed there, and others who have come home. They are trying to develop the town so that it doesn't wither and die like so many small rural towns are doing these days. I am quite taken by what they are doing and wish I could move back there myself. But that would hardly be fair to my husband who has lived all his life here on this farm, or what r... read more

It has been raining here since October turned. The last day of September was warm, sunny and breezy. I took advantage of that and made a long walk-about, visiting my oak trees and seeing what they might have left for me to gather. I came back with a collection of various features from bark, and sections of old weathered spars. I did a drawing of my favorite oak tree roots in the ravine, which I will post here.

I have been doing as much reading as I can manage. I'm taking a break from Harve... read more

It's funny how long I have been roaming about the woods, as a kid when I was home, and for the last 37 years here, and how many things I have dragged home. In the last 15-20 years I have made things with the bur oak twigs that have such fantastic shapes that I just had to do something with them. I have also used acorns and smallstones that we have an endless supply of here, and which I am also always bringing home. I have baskets of them in various sizes. I have some very special stones with ... read more

I have spent the last two days wandering in the wilderness here, as I couldn't sign in to do anything. But now things seem to be working again. Also I've been reading "The Spell of the Sensuous" and Graham Harvey's "Animism" is waiting in the wings. So plenty to absorb and process.

Also the chipmunk games go on. I've managed to fix things so that they cannot (fingers crossed) get into the big platform bird feeder with the cedar trunk cornerposts, or at least the ball's in their court now.... read more
