Tribeless?
Everyone is afraid that it's going, but I haven't seen anything from anyone who would know. *shrug*
Not that I'd be surprised, mind you, just that everyone seems nervous and there are no actual facts involved. |

The letter I saw from the IT guy said he quit because he got tired of fighting the owners/management to do the right thing in order to keep the site up and running. he resigned in disgust. It just means that someone else will be hired to replace him, but it a cleaver move on his part to get people to flee the site in revenge. It's also very unprofessional of him. Personally I use facebook 98% of the time now anyways so...

Actually its even more interesting. Sounds like the IT guy was a maverick in the worst possible way. Only a few weeks back he was boasting about the major equipment buy he was going to do from Sun. Based on the amount of time from that posting to the outage caused by the transition, the guy obviously didn't have a deployment plan. The new equipment should have been set up in parallel, tested, and allowed to burn-in for days (if not weeks) before doing the switchover. He also clearly had no fallback plan in the case of an equipment failure (which happened when he lost a SAN controller) and made sure he had all the equipment in place (he didn't, he complained that there was a missing part). The owner was well within his rights to chew this guys ass out, he brought the entire site to its knees. he was careless. but the owner is also to blame for not assigning a project manager to this to make sure the deployment went smoothly.

thanks for the recap!
the site does work better now than it used to. Well, I can't seem to upload new pix but I mean I actually get on the site which is significant anymore! |

Tribe is Dead!!!! Long live Tribe!!!!!
This thread is totally hijacked now I guess.
But I have to comment on the stupid IT guy thing. First I have to say I've only tangential stories but what Marc describes seems to make the most sense. I thought the missing part thing that has been described seems really suspect and I thought there had to be more to it. Second, I've had a little bit of experience with a lot of small shops and some places don't have the bodies to be project managers. They need to hire capable people who know how to work on their own with little or no supervision. This usually requires finding the right people and paying them a bit more. The hard part is probably finding the right people. Although, I know tribe in general is low on funds so maybe the paying them a bit more is a difficult too. |
