Aviary Planted with Calamondin Citrus and Strawberry Guava

Houses small chickens and protects them from avian flu! There are roosts and an area under the house to get out of the elements and stay cool. The top is made of removable polycarbonate panels that protect the plants from frost in the winter and the chickens from rain. In the summer, they can be removed and covered with shade cloth.

Hi,

The petition: "Enable Poultry Keepers to Quickly Construct Biosecure Poultry Housing"

Santa Cruz County poultry keepers would like to be able to quickly construct housing to protect birds from pathogens, such as bird flu, that can be spread by wild birds. Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join me in signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a difference. Please sign here:

Hi Everyone,

The US is currently predicting that bird flu could be carried by migratory birds that reach the US by this summer. However, bird flu could also be transmitted in other ways, so it could really be here anytime. In Europe, countless domestic birds have been killed, either by the disease or through culling, and people have even dumped dogs and cats at animal control or set them free, because they were afraid there was a risk of their pets giving it to them. They recommended that ... read more

Some people believe that killing off large numbers of birds would be warranted if the Asian bird flu came to this country, even though very few people have died from it. That includes people with pet birds. If you don't have pet birds, you might not care that much.

Did you know that cats can get it and spread it, too? Does that warrant killing off millions of domestic cats? Here's the article:

"On 31 October 2005, Canada has discovered a strain of H5 avian flu in wild birds and is now checking whether it is the same H5N1 killer strain which has spread to Europe."

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H5N1

Please contact your representatives (such as at congress.org) and ask them to make available a bird flu plan and biosecurity guidelines for backyard flocks.

Here's another article, which sounds more hopeful that it is not the bird flu:
