The top is made of removable polycarbonate panels that protect the plants from frost in the winter and the chickens from rain. Some people believe that killing off large numbers of birds would be warranted if the Asian bird flu came to this country, even though very few people have died from it. That includes people with pet birds. If you don't have pet birds, you might not care that much.
